  1. Lols +1, Hope the 6.5 was f***ed. I would take a 6.5 over a v6 STI ra anyday. nah was mint aside from the tyres werent the right ones, got cash my way and a heap of new aftermarket parts like forgies, link, mags, intake mani, etc. ra is nicer to drive and goes better and my tommi was tuned to 215wkw. wanted to mod it but rather keep a rare car stockl to hold its value.
  2. swapped my tommi makinen evo fro a v6 sti ra today, glad to be back in the subbie clan
  3. at least its not a bird shitting on it left right and centre...my car must have the bird version of cat knip embedded in the paint ???
  4. theyre a nice samll engine to get out, ive heard they are eastv to rebuild with help of a tutorial but have to take your time to make sure everything is clean as. i suppose ill find out one day
  5. yup its a series 7 but has the series 8 kit on it. hmm fountain out the exhaust would make a nice water feature in my garden...car prob drive too far like that tho. itll be my weekend car and maintenance will be high priority. ill save for a rebuild because it will need to be done at some stage.
  6. Q RAF yup you did see it, i waved as i recognised your p plate. yup once youre sitting in it youre fairly well secured, feels nice having the tunnel so high up with the gear stick nice and race car feeling
  7. its still twin turbo, standard boost...has apexi pod filters, fmic, aftermarket muffler, tein adjustables, full kit, and the 19's. hasnt been rebuilt to my or the previous owners knowledge but has good compression. was imported at 77,xxxkms by fast fours and turbos and the guy i bought it off has owned it since then. has now done 88,000kms. just changed the oil and filter and got all fluids checked. oil was still clean as so thats a good sign. its also a series 7 not a 6 so a little but newer yup there aint much leg room in the back but ill only be in the drivers seat so im sweet!
  8. yeah man same with me, my wallets now soft and empty after filling her up...$120 but oh so worth it
  9. just picked up my dream car the other day after years of wanting one, not a subbie but have my RS parked in the shed at home still enjoy...
  10. finally got a wof on the old rs, got bored of no boxer rumble with the sti muffler so the trusty hacksaw was put to great use. now sounds like a rally legacy and went mean from turangi to tauranga and back...awesome sunday
  11. oh is that for the sporty steering? i assume it would have to be something to do with the alarm...suppose itll give me something to do tomorrow and have a trace of some wires, not a fun task haha
  12. Kia ora guys, have finally got a WOF on my 89 rs legacy so time to drive it and have a tutu. The previous owner said the engine is a GTB block and WRX heads...unsure version/year. Anyway the engine is standard running a td04. When i got the car it had a "modcontrol" chipped 91 RS ecu but came with a '89 RS ecu also. car was hesitating from 2000rpm-4000rpm then went mean there after, first thing was to put the standard '89 ecu in and goes better but a litlle bit of hesitation. Anyway ive been looking under the dash and have found this box thing tied to the steering column(see pics) and am wondering if it is standard? Also would an old RS legacy work fine with the gtb/wrx engine hybrid. cheers, Jarrod. the ecu that is '91RS looking under the dash, the box is the black and grey thing with the cable tie..its tied to the steering shaft
  13. just got my rs for 2600 and its in superb condition and has amp and awesome sounds, standard as though, so you can find a good tidy rs for that money...just takes time
  14. na sorry my leggy is black and ill keep the standard bonnet on for now just so it retains the factory look haha
  15. hey guys and girls! well im finally back in the subbie club again after purchasing a 1989 legacy RS which is absolute mint condition with GTB short block and WRX heads. still running td04 though but am saving for STi engine and gearbox to get more power. the outside will stay the same except the exhaust as im going for the sleeper look. hope things progress well and ill keep people informed. will post up some pics when it stops raining
  16. if you want to have a external venting to atmo i recommend, for the easiest and by far the cheapest option, go to a wrecker/pick-a-part and find a 250t legacy, whip the headers off it and weld a pipe with a flange off it just before it mounts to the up pipe. easy to weld as it is mild steel and itd cost 10buks to get the headers (if that) and a box of piss to weld it on. sadly it gets rid of the subbie rumble but does a mint job, DONT tac the standard gate shut, i just un plumbed mine and it worked fine, or remove the actuator and make a bracket that bolts to the compressor housing and holds the gate flap shut. to weld on to the standard cast manifold you will need special arc welding rods to do it else itll continuly crack and drive you crazy with leaks, if you go down this path then get a steam pipe bend welded to the manifold...strong as fark and wont crack from the weight of the gate hope this info can help, and im on your side with the external sound +1
  17. the bank would only loan me 6k for a car and i had no debts at all and have a 45k salary, they gave me a loan when i was 18 for 5500 and the loan form said "unemployed" so in my experience bank loans seem up the piss sometimes...recently went with first credit union in hamilton and got a loan with 14% interest rate, my brother went there also and being older got 12.5% interest rate. so IMO they would be a good pplace to have a chat to first.
  18. shit i hope pioneer didnt go bankrupt! i have insurance with them and havnt had any notification of being bankrupt
  19. dont know if it was from turbo, he said his rocker cover gaskets had been leaking so maybe he just finished them off or rooted a piston, suppose the list goes on for what it could be
  20. well after a mint night at the recent night wars i headed home to hamilton, just before getting home i had a v4 RA behind me up my @rse. last lil straight before home, im the country, he gave it shit and was thrashing his car. got up the road where he pulled over with smoke bellowing out of the exhaust and engine bay. stopped to make sure he it wasnt on fire and found out there was oil everywhere by the up pipe. pulled plug leads off to find them covered in oil and whilest trying to stop it it lo=ike backfired out a plug well, sorting out i guess. got it started and was pissing oil out the exhaust hard, concluded that its time for a rebuild or new engine. anyone know what coulda caused uit, it was standard with a external wastegate and dumpipe? shows what happens when you thrash a car to much...treat your car with respect and it (should) treat you with respect ;D
  21. im keen for a convoy down, im in papakura so if any other locals keen then itll be a good little convoy.
