  1. Washed it yesterday, well most of it. only got one of the wheels washed, so have one very shiny rim and 3 not so shiney.
  2. If it doesn't s**t itself in the next 20000kms I was thinking of building up a new long block and drop that in if/when it goes kaput. I am really hoping the gasket isn't going, thats why I asked in the dumb question thread if you can tell if its been replaced, but by the look of the replies it doesn't really matter if it has.
  3. Bit of an update. Car was good for nearly a week, then had the same problems again, this time temp was staying high for longer. So went home and bled the system for longer this time also raised the car up higher, seemed to be a lot of bubbles coming out. While doing this I noticed there was coolant on the radiator fan shroud and traced the leak to the over flow pipe/hose. It was quite loose on the fitting, so I put some duck tape around it to get a better fit (didn't have any sealer). so far has been over a week without any issues. I am thinking that air was being sucked back into the system from the leaking pipe.Could this be the problem?
  4. At least you didn't bid on it. I hope! I have done something similar, didn't read it fully and won the auction. Luckily it was only a strut brace and was only $20 and it did fit in the end. I read more carefully now
  5. Flouro green? http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4094/4865563452_91f6c4040e_b.jpg
  6. Need new front brake pads. Just a standard DD/family wagon. Got a price from BnT for $46+gst (could be lower if I send the girlfriend to collect!). Has anyone used them, are the any good, very dusty?
  7. Just got a WOF. 2 new brake light bulbs to pass. Will need new front brake pads very soon and a new rear right hand tyre.
  8. Is there a visual way to tell with out removing heads? I can see a little of the gasket in a couple of places where it is proud of the head. To me it looks like a stainless steel one. But I don't know what an original one looks like. Just trying to figure out if it has been done, as i did have some over heating issues and wanted to check if the H/G had been changed. The engine is a EJ25 from a 1998 BH legacy.
  9. +1, but he may do his self out of work if he gives too much away.
  10. Is there a visual way to tell if the head gaskets have been replaced? apart from taking the motor apart
  11. Try this page, http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2362823 Theres lots of info and should be the pretty much the same I guess. Can be done, just depends on how much you are willing to spend.
  12. You might be like me (and a lot of other people). As stated previously in this post I miss out on the cheaper rate just cause my car was made in 1998 not 1999 even theough they are the same model. Due to flawed methodology in how they apply the statistics. As said before my car is not less safe(?) than one made 6 months later.
  13. Let us know what they replied. I got my rego the other week (after forgetting it was due for a week!!)didn't bother trying ACC about it as just didn't have time. But if you get a good result I will definitely go back to them to complain.
  14. Drive home tonight temp stayed normal the whole way home. when i got home I check the bottom hose and radiator, both were very warm/hot so at this point thinking the thermostat is the problem
  15. Did you do this yourself? If so from what I have read you may have an air bubble/pocket if the system wasn't fully bled of air bubbles. (does the heater still blow hot?)
  16. Will give them a call today. I take it the thermostat should last longer than this?
  17. The last thermostat that was put in was done at the place I brought it off. Crowesport in Christchurch, they are a subaru dealer ship and repairer. I did have an overheating issue just after I brought it about a year ago. It over heated on the way back from Kaikora so took it back and they replace thermostat and radiator. No real issues since then (till now). So I am assuming the put a OEM thermostat in.
  18. Ok, so still having issues with it over heating. When it was showing at the 3/4 mark I pulled over and checked the radiator. Top hose was really hot and bottom was cold/luke warm with the radiator core cool to touch. A little research has suggested it could be a thermostat shut closed, failed water pump or even radiator cap needs renewing. The way it has been spiking (today it stayed at 3/4 for longer than normal, couldn't pull over as nowhere to stop but it then suddenly dropped to normal) I am thinking the thermostat is sticking closed then popping open. SO I think I will replace it this weekend. Anyone one agree or disagree with the diagnosis? (still not sure about why fans not coming on though)
  19. I did find last night that they have 2 sensors, one for the ECU/fans and one for the temp gauge, I was wondering if its a faulty temp gauge sensor. Maybe thats why it spikes so quickly? Its really confusing as I can't seem to find any other threads or forums that have had the same problem. Overheating issues yes but not the same issue with temp gauge readings. All the other ones the gauge steadily increases not a sharp spike in temp.
  20. Ok so trip in this morning absolutely no issues. Temp gauge didn't move past its normal position. After having a read on line last night I tried the A/C first thing this morning and fan came on for that, so guessing it could be a faulty sensor. So will look at replacing that as it can't hurt either way. I will have a look around today for a sensor. Anyone know of any good places to pick one up in Christchurch? can get one off Ebay (didn't find any on trademe) but the cost of shipping seems really high.
  21. On the drive home it spiked quickly a few times but usually dropped just as quick. when pulling up to park when picking son up from training it spiked really quickly to just below red. i didnt hear the fans going when i popped the bonnet. after 20 minutes off it was fine for the last 5 kms. got home and tested it using the green plugs i heard the fans going. each seperatly and both togetherso the fans work but dont seem to go on during driving
  22. Actually that reminded me, I was going to post on here about how to find out if fans were working, as Im not sure that I have heard them come on lately. Test mode is with the black and green connectors under the dash right? I take it when you plug them in it cycles through everything like turning fans on and off
  23. Might have to be the way to go. Was hoping that is was a xxxxx is the problem, do y and it will go away. Could it be related to the little bit of thrashing I gave it the night before.
