  1. I have a factory towbar on my wagon, it's very useful when backing out of step drive ways, saves the exhausts
  2. So an update to my problem, I was right with my hunch on it being a boost leak. I havent had alot of time to tinker around on the car lately but I took the intercooler off and found the rubber ring on the drivers side was ****ed, and a **** load of oil around. Will clean and replace rubber gasket and see what happens.
  3. [quote name='Marky said: First thought was maybe an overheat warningChances are there is a fault logged if you get a scanner on it The hill is a prick, probably one of the stepest hills on SH1 in NZ. Surely the gearbox couldn't get confused? Overheating is a probability. Where's a place around Auckland that can scan the ECU and not charge me a weeks pay? New to this part of the country. Good news though, I managed to get from Dunedin to Cambridge without any other problems.
  4. Well thank you for the obvious statement. But what would be burning, there isn't any smoke. It smells like clutch but being an auto that's not possible. Had the transmission serviced just recently. Problem goes away with more throttle yes. Thinking it's a turbo issues because it sounds like the turbo is spoiling then losing pressure. Took the O2 sensor out today and had a look, I can see moisture around the pin input, can't open it up to look in the guts of it. Will replace it and see if it makes a difference. [quote name='Andy_Mac said: Thats what i was thinking but he's got an auto based from his other problem post which describes gearbox woes, so probably related. Think the two issues are separate. Concerning though the burning smell. Make sense if it was a manual. Will dig further online for any auto transmission issues.
  5. Engine is stock to my knowledge, has been rebuilt by Winger in Auckland. Feel it as the turbo is pulling. [quote name='Rosssub said: When you say pulsing, is the power surging on and off? As though someone's very lightly on and off the gas every few seconds. If so I'd guess the O2 sensor is on it's way out, enough to effect AFR but not enough to throw a CEL.Is it more noticeable when the engines cold or warming up? Yea power on and off feel. Ok O2 sensor makes sense. That can be an easy fix if it is the issue. Possibly explain poor fuel economy. It's not a constant thing though, more noticeable at higher speeds. Definitely think it could be a turbo issue, if a waste gate or BOV is leaking would explain a burning smell?
  6. Another wee issue with my BP5 GT-B, with accelerating say from 50 - 100 slowly I can notice a pulsing, whether it be the turbo or the engine, though the tachometer isn't showing any change in RPM. Also when this issue occurs, when the vehicle is stationary I can smell a burning smell coming from the air vents, not very strong but its noticable. Could this be a boost issue? Leaking wastegate? Any help will be much appreciated :-)
  7. So I have had a quick look online and on this forum but found nothing. Long story short, I was towing a small 6x4 trailer behind my BP5 GT-B up the Kilmog in Dunedin, was holding it in 4th gear in tiptronic mode, I had a high pitched electronic noise emit from the dash and where the gear is normally shown was displaying just a straight line with both arrows being display, put it back into D and it went away. All happened rather quickly, I think I lost power for a short moment. Has anyone else had this issue before with there 5speed tiptronic Legacy?
  8. Go see old mate Dave at Waikiwi Motors, he has many years of experience under his belt and will more than willing to show you a thing or two about doing the job yourself. Also more than happy to allow you to supply your own parts.
  9. FYI for anyone who is in the same boat as me, and due to the lack of replies on this post I got a set of Bridgestone Potenza Re003 235/35/R19, couldn't be any happier with the choice. These tyres were also reviewed by Mighty Car Mods on Super Gramps. Brought the set for $807 (the 4th tyre was free due to a sale happening at firestone)
  10. I was expecting to pay well into $1200+ for new decent tyres just because of the size of the rim. Do you rate Hankook Ventus as a decent tyre?
  11. I guess no one else seems to have 19" rims then
  12. Joker please move this to the appropriate thread if I have this wrong! Currently have a set of Diezel 19x8.5 with Nexen N'Fera SU 225/35/R19 that are at the end of there life. Been quoted $260 per tyre for Nexen N7000 235/35 but after a quick google search I am left with doubt about them. What else have people out there got on there 19s that they would recommend me? I want to go for 235 to give more protection to my rims which are sticking out further than the tyre wall...
  13. This isn't exactly nice to read when I am think of moving to the same area...
  14. [quote name='evoeater99 said: Ahh i see, yeah wasn't a big fan of it to be honest. looks way better black in my opinion! You can keep both :-P iv got an old 3rd gen wagon as well, it's my mountain hack. Yea the wheels are 19s, my BP5 is sitting on Tein springs, solid as. Though hard on the open road. Haha I loved the blue on the rims! Thinking maybe going an aqua next? To much work though...
  15. Yeah I have seen that you like to try and ruffle peoples feathers. Why would you not expect it in the Trip computer? It's sitting above the head unit and between two air vents. The heat from the heat unit alone would cause damage over time.
  16. Your selling!! http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/subaru/auction-883800739.htm Are you sure its lowered though?
  17. I want to argue as well but I don't like to think of myself as a keyboard warrior. No I never said it would fix, it would allow the resistor or cap to work for a short amount of time before it was restored to normal ambient temperature where it would start to fail again. Not all 'buggered' resistors are 'burnt' out, they do slowly begin to fail, losing there intended rating.
  18. Give this a shot, stick it in the freezer for 15min. If it's back to normal for a short time, you have buggered resistors and capacitors
  19. Interested! Though we could take it one step further and go to Owaka?
  20. Good look with the soldering. I have had a crack at it previously, replaced resistors and caps. Long story short, it's ****ed. What your seeing isn't a error message, it's simply the LCD display not being given the correct signals from the PCB. Try spraying the crap out of it with a contact cleaner before you start destroying it with a soldering iron.
  21. I will keep that name in case I need anything done :-) cheers
  22. What's he doing to it? Your last message on my FB messenger won't open on my phone and keeps crashing the app...
  23. It's silly, the guy imports it himself... But then again he sells 100 to...
  24. Nelson has the most expensive 98, almost $3 a litre
  25. I'm going to get Warren to fix up my GT-B BP5 shortly :-)
