  1. I think for now I'll just spend a little on the current car to make it the best it can be. Maybe a new clutch and some suspension bushes to tighten up the ride a bit. Think I might get the front bumper resprayed too. After driving the TT this afternoon I think I would miss the all over torque that the H6 delivers. If and that is a very big if I ever have the funds to turbo this thing and have another car as a daily while I build it then I'll probably teach myself to weld and do it myself. Thanks for the input guys. BTW if anyone is looking for a good TT. That blitzen on TM is in pretty good shape for a 13 year old car.
  2. Spotted at Butterfly creek a few months ago. Contained one 40something woman and 2 kids.
  3. Based on what is available on TM right now. I think my current car is a keeper. I like the 02 Blitzen that is on there but it is red. There is only 1 Gen 4 on there right now that would fit my requirements. But the seats are ripped and that would just annoy me no end.
  4. Hahah. I have actually considered that. The Raptor headers are a good starting point for a turbo manifold. The problem with that is simple. MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY. Doing it right will cost me around $5k. I was thinking of making my pockets fuller, not emptier. 1 x GT 3576 or similar 1 x fabricate manifolds 1 x Intercooler and piping You see where this going But yes I hear you in a way. Apparently the stock internals are good for about 270kw atw while still staying reliable.
  5. Hmm, yes food for thought there. Maybe a move to a turbo from a 3.0R is a possible way to go. I think the fact that the Gen 4 is more of grown up car probably is not a bad thing either. Would have to be manual yes. Not a fan of autos unless it's in a Golf R and it's called DSG. I'll have to go out and do some test driving. I took a pretty tidy Blitzen out for a drive earlier. Seems only need a service (Which I can do myself) and 1 or 2 bits of trim sorted out. Listed for just under 7k one would assume it would be let go for around 6k. Only problem would be that it is very very red. Seems to have a new clutch, new Eagle F1s and a 2 year old cam belt replacement.
  6. So I have come to a point where I suddenly have an itch to change my car again. I hate it when that happens. I am currently driving a slightly modified MY05 3.0R SpecB Manual. I am toying with the idea of getting a 2002 - 2003 GTB or Blitzen Wagon if I can find one. (Facelift). I know it's very different, I've had a TT before. But it would mean that I have some cash in my pocket that can look pretty when put towards my mortgage and I can spend about half of what comes from that to make the TT usable. Thoughts? Pros and cons?
  7. Just a bit of thread where we can cover all questions and answers for the various exhaust options and so on. What have you got? What works? What doesn't? I have a MY05 ADM 3.0R SpecB 6 speed. Exhaust setup is Raptor Headers -> Stock Cats -> Custom 2.5" piping to Y -> 3rd cat delete -> Stock cat back Tuned to make the most of it :-)
  8. Just going to check with Matt that he's OK with that first. I don't want to go sharing stuff that in essence belongs to him. In the meantime PM me your email address.
  9. I have a really basic ECUFlash definition for that ECU, but I think that is just so that it can write the file back to the ECU. It has no table defs in it
  10. That is the same ECU as the one he did for my mate, so yes he has a tuning def for that ECU. IIRC he uses a different bit of tuning software for that ECU though. None the less, he can do it and the owner of the outback is very happy with the result. I can probably send you the base tune if you want to test it out.
  11. He should have a def file. What is your ECU ID? He did a JDM 3.0 Outback for a mate and seemed to pull a def file from somewhere for that.
  12. The headers have had virtually no effect on fuel economy. I keep logs of all fuel consumption so I can say with fair accuracy that it has not changed noticeably. He did a remap for the extra flow on the headers when I got them which gave a noticeable change in how the top end behaved. Get the tune done without the headers for now and then get him to send you and update when you get them fitted. If you don't have a tactrix cable then I can load up the map for you later. (if you are in Auckland that is) I had mine fitted at Midas Panmure. He did a pretty good job and didn't cost the earth. Around $260 from memory.
  13. I sort of agree with this. I think the best value lies in the tune. Even if you don't get a big boost in top end power it makes the car so much nicer to drive. That goes for both MT and AT cars. I couldn't believe how much better that car was with just a base (non custom) tune was from Matt (throttlehappy). That said I'm happy I did the headers too.
  14. I have had a fair few conversations with member Daytona. He has an 07 ADM 3.0R 6MT. He has done the Raptor intake too along with a huge amount of work on his exhaust. He recons the raptor intake makes a difference. (according to the butt dyno). I was considering making my own CAI too, but decided to hold off for now. Need to get a decent 3" MAF mount to start with and pick up some piping and elbows etc. As to how much HP my car is making. Your guess is as good as mine. It will go on the dyno on the 23rd and we will see. According to the virtual dyno map that was sent to me it is making 170kw atw. I think that might be a bit inflated though considering that the car should make about 130kw atw in stock form I would be happy with around a 20kw gain for the mods I have done. One thing the virtual dyno does show though is flat torque curve the car produces. It is a real pleasure to drive. And yes it is a 6 speed. I really don't like autos for my daily drive.
  15. Check out these. Seem to also work really well for cutting out the drone and rasp. Vibrant Ultra quiet http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E3VHWI Still considering putting one of these in with another muffler to quiet the beast a bit.
  16. I agree that the quads look best. I don't mind the Ultrex single tips that I am running now, but would swap them for a set of STI quads in a heartbeat. Also not wanting to drop even more cash on the exhaust. Daytona has already spent almost 4k on his setup.
  17. hmm. Might need to see if I can pick up the sections that I need from a GT then. Just need to replace the mid and rear Y with larger diameter sections and not keen spend a lot of cash. My car budget is pretty limited these days.
  18. Doh. Gotta love what a good tune does for your car aye!
  19. Dyno for the 23rd of October is pretty much confirmed now. If you want to get your car on the machine, best PM throttlehappy on here or kido_tuning on the liberty.asn.au forum to book your slot. There will be limited availability
  20. Ahh, I see. Normally the DBAs would be more expensive. But if there is good pricing available then that makes sense. What is the best way to make enquiries? Via Clubsub or just contact him directly?
  21. So you still pick the DBA over the Znoelli rotors? Any particular reason?
  22. Auckland: 22nd, 23rd, 24th Wellington: 24th/25th Christchurch: 25th/26th Looking at organising a dyno day on the 23rd if anyone if keen. Need to fill the day up a bit to make it worth while. Cost of Dyno will be split between those attending.
