  1. Hey all,

what are people's experiences with reverting from welded internal gates back to standard (i.e.unpicking the weld on the internal gate)?

Been noticing a few turbos that catch my eye but have the gate welded shut.

Biggest concern would be that the weld cant be cleanly removed meaning the internal gate won't operate as it should/close 100% when needed.

    Cheers

Used the CNC at uni to make fuel rail adaptors for putting phase 2 injectors on a phase 1 manifold.

Installed some BP legacy 550cc sidefeeds & rails i got for $30 off trademe. Turned out pretty good.

That'd be a great little piece of kit to sell to some of the fellas stuck with V3-4 manifolds for sure.

Why not just a thread taped bolt and a hose clamp. Most of the ports are under the manifold anyway.

Is it a stock inlet or silicone one?

Silicone one so a bit more robust than the factory one.

Yeah, might just have to go round up a few bolts from pick a part or something.

  4. Hey all,

Plan is to get my g4+ installed later this year (bc5/gc8) - looking for advice as to the best way to block off the various inlets on the turbo intake hose? i already have a catch can set up so no breathers and i will be removing the iacv (one less thing to fail).

    Cheers!

  5. Apologies if i've just misunderstood a fundamental aspect of checking the cel lights (bc5 legacy), but, why would i get a different set of codes showing with just the black plugs connected versus both the green and black plugs (i.e. when trying to clear the codes)?

    Any help, most appreciated!

  6. So the heads i have on my RS are rattly as hell and i'm pretty condfident its a valve clearance issue (stupidly slapped the heads ontot the motor without getting them fully checked - great plan on a rebuild).

Does anyone have any idea of i) the cost to have the heads//valves checked/corrected and ii) any recommendations in the Auckland area?

I would just swap heads and do the head gaskets again but these heads have been ported and have reground cams.

    Cheers!

Getting alot of car/motorbike parts building up in the shed again, if anyone wanting a full size 5th wheel for a spare to add to their current v7 wheel set hit me up, I have 3 v7 wheels all with a little curbing nothing that bad $50 each for the rim only, Central AK.

Keen on a wheel if you've still got any floating around. Am in central Auckland as well, so can pick up most evenings if you're in a rush.

    Cheers

Theres no point going bigger than yellows unless you have a block you can lean on and a bigger snorter than the pissant VF ones.

Dont get caught up on dyno figures. Sti engine/heads with a VF and tuned to 20psi will net you similar results whoever tunes it but could vary from 200-230wkw dyno dependant. Pretty common spec.

I made 227wkw at 20psi with a VF22, yellows and similar mods on 95. Rolling road too which read lower than hub dyno.

Oh nice, just going on experiences a mate of mine has had re: yellows. Thats a solid result from that set up!.

Hey man, I fixed + killed the rust in the boost myself, I didn't end up taking it to a panel beater or painter as I've been dishing out large in the engine / suspension department.

if you see my car in person it definitely shows it's age but in photos it looks relatively mint lol

i get all my work done at Subirex automotive, if your in Auckland i highly recommend them and the owner Ajay can probably direct you to a good panel/paint guy also :)

Oh nice, thanks for the heads up. Have definitely heard the Subirex name pop more than a few places.

    Cheers!

yup i am definately aware of the leaky boot syndrome, fixed so many cases of this in the past pretty straight foward now with rust converters etc

i dont currently have 10 bc5s i have just owned plenty of them in the past, bc5 tattoo?

goshno i only get tattoos of things once ive owned 11 of them :P

This bc5 is the most used ive ever owned, soon to be a sparkling beautiful bc5 specimen,

getting dropped at the car painters tomorrow for bonnet and roof and boot respray, new sti goodies from a v7 wrx for under the hood, and throwing away all the chrome gauges, silver steering wheel and gear knob for some tasteful black after market versions

will definately chuck some pics up, pretty lame having to find an image host site to host images is there a trick to just uploading them on here?

Hey mate, had a read of your RS on ya build thread - very nice. Who did the panel work for you? I'm looking to give my own BC5 a bit of a birthday in that department and any recommendations would be most appreciated.

    Cheers.
