  1. I've no idea what the fine is here in NZ but it obviously isn't enough to deter the majority of people. I really think that - First Offence: Phone is confiscated for 48hours along with a fine and demerits. Second Offence. Phone is confiscated and destroyed along with bigger fine and more demerits. If they can confiscate cars then why not a phone? I'm sure that would make people think twice....
  2. Okay, bit of a rant this morning. Why the f*** do people still think it's okay to use their mobile phone while driving? Just this morning, in a busy Westgate shopping centre leading up to a busy junction and pedestrian crossing, a blue WRX wagon drives along with a brainless young moron at the wheel texting on his phone. Why? I fail to understand how he (and others) feel it's okay to put the safety of others at risk and that a text message etc is more important that the lives of others. Are people really that arrogant (or stupid) that they think they are immune from accidents while being distracted? I really wouldn't mind so much if they crashed their own car and hurt themselves and no one else was involved - but, unfortunately, more than often, that is not the case. And working in the health sector (operating rooms) I see the results and they are not pretty. Come on people. If you're old enough to drive, then you are old enough to start thinking like a intellegent adult. That is obviously asking too much of some.....
  3. A number of years ago I took part in the Taga NZ Rally as co-driver in one of those... Came 2nd in class too Back in good 'ol Blighty, I heavily modified one adding a Rover T16 motor to it and was featured in one of the UK's leading Performance Car magazines. A mate loved it so much, he asked me to do the same conversion on his MG Maesto and it ended up being featured on Top Gear (from 3:27) I didn't get named but still my main claim to fame
  4. I had one of these a few years ago - one of five NZ new WRC spec cars. Did a few mods such as Lynn Rogers head along with suspension. Like you say, heavy beast, but fun
  5. We all had to start somewhere I guess. Just wondering where everyone started off originally with their first ever 'performance' car. Not sure it was ever brought to NZ, but mine was an MG Maestro 1600. Pretty advanced in is day being the first ever fully CAD production car. Came with an R series motor (developed from an an Allegro/Maxi motor IIRC) with twin Weber carbs. Biggest thing of note was the talking solid state 'digital' dashboard which was very Knight Rider-ish in its day! A Fugly looking car, but I loved it Went on to own MGs for many years after that so it obviously wasn't all that bad a car
  6. Spotted today in the Northwest shopping centre car park. And yes, the vents etc are all 'stick on' types Probably the least of its worries though
  7. Definately an insurance claim on this one and a job for a panel beater Oh well, could have been worse. Could have been my STi
  8. Wife bought herself a brand spanking new Jeep a couple of weeks ago and discovered this today... No way in hell is someone going to not realise they've done this. Strongly believe in karma and sincerely hope that plenty of bad sh1t comes their way
  9. Posted this elswhere but spotted in Newmarket the other week. Those wheels looks just as bad in the flesh. Such a shame as the Hypeblue paint looks really good.
  10. First Subbie was a 1999. Then onto a 2004 and now a 2016.
  11. I guess that driving past that sign (accept it isn't the exact sign as there are more than one - but right location though - I hope ) on the north western to and from work every day makes it a little more obvious for me... Impressive detective work on the Resene tag though - was sure that would have lasted more than a couple of hours Hopefully this one is neither too easy or hard...

  13. Ironic that just as I was taking the above photo I heard the distinct sound of a boxer engine and looked up to see a Legacy wagon flying past Hope they weren't there to take a photo for the tag New location....
  14. Wife bought a brand new Jeep a few weeks ago. Had some initial issues with the car not being valated properly and we refused to take it at first until they cleaned it properly. In complete contrast, my new STi was probably cleaner than when it left the factory when I picked it up from Winger Greenlane Washing the car todayand found this - the driver's door tie bar... Even the rear door's tie bar is corroding too. I mean, really? A brand new car that she's had for about 6 weeks and garaged every night. There was even rust on one of the ISO type child seat anchors we got them to relace. Makes you womder what we're going to find next. A used car you can understand, but new from a Jeep dealership Guess I shouldn't be too shocked given that Jeep are owned now by FIAT and they were real rust buckets in days go by..... A trip to see the dealer manager is in order tomorrow I think....
  15. Glad I'm not the only one who doesn;'t like the wheels then
  16. Spotted in Newmarket last weekend. Anyone from here?
  17. ST28170ST060 doesn't yield any results on partsouq for me. A google search does though and they are on ebay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STI-Security-Wheel-Lock-Set-ST28170ST060-/111978725328 - for around NZ$540.
  18. Looking through the Subaru brochure for the WRX STi, I spied some very nice looking STi emblazoned locking wheel nuts - a complete set of 20. Hmmm, I thought, they'd look nice on my car. Until I find out that they are priced at $899 for the set I know OEM parts can be a little pricey at times, but that is beyonds the realms of being anywhere near reasonable surely?
  19. Picked this little beauty up from Winger Subaru yesterday afternoon. My wife thinks I'm having a midlife crisis. Who cares with this as your daily drive Gary
