  1. Hi guys Just had a question regarding replacing you exhaust in particular the front pipes on a twin turbo legacy. I have heard replacing the front pipes makes the primary turbo over boost, is this correct? I would have thought it would spool up quicker but not overboost. Can anyone shed any light to what actually happens when you replace the front pipes. cheers
  2. Sounds pretty normal too me, In any car I have driven if you are in a high gear with low revs then put your foot down you always get some hesitation. Thats why you drop a gear or two too overtake, just my opinion tho
  3. Classic subieboy! I know what you mean, I have a bit of a love/Hate relationship with my GTB tho.
  4. Have you got somebody to rev car while you look at b.o.v to see if valve is opening and closing as it should ? I sprayed crc on my b.o.v made it work better.
  5. It could be coil or plugs. Mine would hesitate only when I put my foot down, it didn't when I drove like a Nana and it was my plugs that had crapped out.
  6. Could be the plugs or a faulty coil, my legacy only started missing around 4500-5000rpm and I had faulty plugs.
  7. Got the wheel fixed today at elite wheels. Would highly recommend them, wheel looks brand new and $172 was not too steep. Im stoked
  8. Sweet I will give elite wheels a call thanks
  9. Does anyone know of a good shop in chch that fixes a dented mag wheel, had a bit of a slide into the kerb this morning
  10. Funny enough I have the same problem, I bought 1999 gtb about 2 weeks ago and the first thing I noticed was the steering felt funny. the steering felt light sometimes then heavy and when you turn the steering wheel it jerks back to centre. My wrx and forester never did this. I noticed the previous owner had way too much power steering fluid in it so I removed some and also changed fluid, it helped a bit. I had my mechanic check the belt and pump and he said they were all good and this model does have quite a light steering feel.
  11. My forester did this really bad, the wing mirror gussets pull away over time ( by shutting the door by the window or slamming doors ). The fix is to wind down window, put your knee on the inside of door and pull gusset firmly towards you for 30 seconds. So when you now put up the window it will have a closer fit with seal. Wind noise at open road speeds sucks aye
  12. Hi guys My 2002 Forester Xt has been getting the check engine light coming on at open road speeds. I got the code checked at my mechanics and was a P0171 system lean on bank one. He gave the afm a clean and light has not come back on but the car is still sluggish. So getting a new afm installed next week. My question is has anyone had this code before and replaced the air flow meter with success, and what other things could throw this code. Cheers
  13. Yay all fixed, it was the plugs after all that. The previous owner had advertised the plugs had been changed but obviously not. Now I gotta get the problem fixed with my forester its throwing a p0171 code system lean on bank one...subaru's you gotta love them
  14. *update* took to the mechanic today, he thinks it might be a faulty coil and the hesitation and surging is the car running between3 and 4 cylinders. He is going to put some new coils in tomorrow ( fingers crossed it works)
  15. Thank for everyone's input, going to take it to my mechanic sometime this week. Just out of curiosity does any one Know what turbos are in a 1999 Gtb Legacy? Im sure there are a few different variations, but what are the most common ones thanks.
  16. Plugs have been changed by previous owner, Have only owned for two weeks problem started today. Looking over other posts I'm thinking it could be a solenoid or sticky actuator problem. Problem only starts when secondary turbo comes into play.
  17. Sorry I should of put car lurches repeatedly instead of hesitates
  18. thanks, I dont think its the lag between turbos, the second turbo is not boosting and hesitating in a major way that I have to slow down. It feels like its hitting the boost cut in quick succession.
  19. Hi Guys I have a problem with my 1999 GTB legacy. The car boosts well at low rpm but when I put my foot down and the secondary turbo kicks in it hesitates big time and Doesn't seem to boost. The check engine light has not come on and I have checked the vacuum hoses and nothing seems wrong. Does any one have any advice? could it be a boost leak, and what symptoms will the car show if the secondary turbo is stuffed. Any advice would be awesome Thanks
  20. Finally found out what the squeal was after a few road tests and extensive internet browsing. Its windscreen noise, which only happens above a certain speed or with cross winds. The fix is simple just apply clear silicone sealant to the top of the windscreen rubber. Here is the post if your interested http://www.scoobymods.com/windscreen-noise-speed-during-strong-t5358.html?t=5358
  21. It seems to be worse with the aircon on, fluid levels are all good.if it belts or pulleys wouldnt the noise happen even driving under 100km hr?
  22. Hi guys i have a forester xt, while driving over 100km hr there is aloud intermittant squeal that comes from the engine bay ( I know not very specific ) but i havn't heard it whilst driving under 100 km hr. Has anyone had this problem before or have any idea what it could be. Any help is appreciated thanks
  23. Some lady who was drunk at 2pm in the arvo side swiped me on my way home from work. The sturdy forester took the hit well tho
