    Intakes

When going from a V2 with 90 degree inlet turbo to a straight inlet turbo, what is the best way to run the intake? Will a later model intake manifold bolt straight up to fit an intake under the manifold? Is a twisted turbo exhaust and a custom intake going to be heavy on the wallet and are the returns worth it over going under the manifold? Input appreciated
  2. You are right man, those 5 spoke GTB wheels wont fit 4pots (i have the same wheels and have recently acquired 4pots). Just think of it as a chance to upgrade your rims
  3. Do you need a full cert for manual conversion? What is the process for legalising it because I know LTA records transmission types and such
  4. thats what i was thinking. thanks shale
  5. I have a TD04 on my tardme watchlist in southland at $100, a td05 in levin for $200, or a vf10 in chch for $80 so far are my current options
  6. sweet as, how much you want for the TD04? are you happy to frieght it to chch?
  7. Good thought Shale, mine is a 95 GF8 WRX so I think originally came with a TD05 but had an 04 when I bought it. Has custom intake and turbo back exhaust so far and will chuck in some yellows, an sti ecu or better and a vf30 or 34 within a few months. Just after something to pull me through to the stage im ready to do those mods. How soon is soon for the TD04? Does it have a 90 degree inlet? I'm hoping to sort this out this weekend or week so i don't have to put more of my compressor wheel through the engine when the long weekends over and work starts back up.
  8. does anyone know if vf10 will bolt straight up with same lines etc as the td04 (90degree inlet)?
  9. yeah man v2 WRX 90 degree set up. looking on trademe for a td05 and put word out on here, but nothing local on TM and the one offered here is set up for external wastie. cant be bothered with that at the mo. looking to upgrade to vf30 or 34 in a few weeks time anyway so mostly want a quick fix. [quote name='WRXONP said: Aw yeah bro my old turbo did the same. Eventually ripped all the fins off and left them in the inter cooler and it was non turbo ha couldn't even get 1 pound boost ouch bro, my turbo not close to that bad, will still hold 10pound. so pissed off at this turbo, now the bottom nuts on the exhaust flange are stripping and no shops open for a 6pt socket and nuts and bolts to sort this f***er out.
  10. I'm pretty sure little pieces of the intake wheel. Nothing in the intake before the turbo anyway. I suspected something was wrong with the turbo on my way home from work this week, intake was a bit noisier.
  11. Yeah man, will go bigger but just looking for a cheap turbo to use while i save for a much better one. Went to change to siamese downpipe yesterday and found some filings in the intercooler, so figured i probably better put another turbo in before it kills my engine.
  12. Have tried looking for some spec on vf10 turbo from an early RS legacy but cant find alot. How would it compare to a TD04?
  13. good to know you got it sorted. will have to do a thorough check of mine now
  14. My car does the same thing at the mo, just passed a warrant too. I'm thinking it'll be buggered cv's too, but I think I remember another similar thread where someone found the issue to be in the diff.
  15. Another thing to think about is how your sub box is going to sit. You'll need to mount it down somehow (I just use a bungee cord), other wise the box can shift around and damage your interior and/or your wiring setup. I'd also pick up some lugs when you get the wiring for a good connection to the amp and ground.
  16. cheers guys, heading to the auto sparky today
  17. Have people replaced the brushes and voltage regulator for an EJ20 alternator? Where would I source the parts in Chch for this job? BNT and repco are both telling me they don't stock
  18. Id bring my black wagon, but its now got some cosmetic rear damage from some punk kid crashing into me
  19. Just had quite a bit of work done by Smith and Smith in Christchurch (Russley Road Centre). Windscreen and all door glass replaced. They did stuff me around a little bit at first, taking my car overnight and getting nothing done but they paid for a taxi for me to collect it and then picked it up again afterwards and dropped it to my door, so they rectified the situation well. I took photos before and after and they have done a good job: All glass in good condition (they get most of their auto glass from wreckers), no paint work scratches around the windows, only enough ks on the odo for them to get out there and back. They went the extra mile and oiled everything, cleaned up tensioners, everything all clean etc, and staff were also friendly and helpful too. I'd say if they didnt stuff up the first time i took it in i would have given them 10/10
  20. Ahh i'm pretty sure the first filter it came with was taken away in rubish collection yesterday!
  21. Ok so got a genuine filter thanks to gotasuby, fitted it and checked just as i did before and it is sweet.. will try post up pics of ryco filter if i can, but the seal is obviously a league above with the genuine under basic visual inspection. Sure, most people will probably never have issues with the ryco filters, but i have, so i am staying away from them. Especially when a clubsub fellow can get genuine filters cheaper than repco/supercheap are selling aftermarket ones! Basically the black seal on the top of the ryco just didnt stay on when there was any sort of oil pressure going through and it warped out the side, letting all of that magnatec out onto my driveway and the engine bay . I was checking for leaks, so i turned the car off pronto. Car had a repco branded filter on before so probably cheap oil in it too, it came out all gluggy and shit so hope crappy oil from last owner hasnt done anything to the engine. Anyways now it's all rectified and sorted, running significantly better with Magnatec and Subaru Oil Filter. On a side note, I noticed a light knocking noise as engine was on before all the change and hasnt gone away after the oil change. I will have to inspect it more thoroughly when my girl brings the car over next to hear where it's coming from. I hope its just the waterpump as its getting around k's where it will need a cambelt and waterpump etc, and not a bearing or anything. Any tips on ruling things out to check what its coming from, so we can assess what we will do? I guess if its a bearing we should probably spend as little on it as possible and sell it on or something
  22. ooo can i please have one for $11? where abouts can i pick them up?
  23. yeap thats what ill probably end up doing. i figured it could have just been bad adhesive or something. not alot i can do til its light though. will try post outcome another time
