What do you do if you buy a older rally / race car that has a old cadge in it.
lets say it hasnt raced for 10 plus years.
Do you need to get a new cage installed?
how old does all the safety equipment have to be before you legally have to replace it?
Yup I know there are alot of different ditzys. trying to find the right cap from my old omega was hell. I ended up converting to points one.
EA71 does Rev higher.
In my old 1982 leone wagon I used to redline it all the time. used to almost go over redline with valve bounce lol
Great motor
EA81s built by ramjet can produce up to 200bhp thats supercharged for air craft use.
Not cheap tho.
But on a very cold winters day etc...
I always let my old carbed subarus time to warm up.
They get carby freeze badly in the cold. Since the carb/carbs are quite a distance away from the block.
If I jump straight in and take off it can stall at a intersection etc and take a bit to get it started :
If I warm it up then I dont seem to stall, and if I do I can get it started right away
I got told that for diesel truck/bus engines. Idling causes more wear. apprantly if you let it idal for it to warm up it does as much wear as if driving from chch to ashburton lol
Ive known about that for years.
I had though of getting a tidy vortex Re vinned but desided against it, since the parcel tray was hacked up I didnt bother.. it would had cost to much to get repaired so didnt bother.
What I got told that any thing that was welded to the body was consided structual. even if it was the front guards that were welded on like on some of the older cars had.
How so?
My svx is fitted with a viscous LSD diff.
as far as I know alot of the older subaru stuff has viscous LSDs.
Like RXIIs, SVX maybe even some brumbys? etc
Its slows the bearings from seizeing right away. normally alows you a little bit of driving to get to a garage. It also lets you know that the seal has gone so its time to replace the pump
Had that happen to me 3 times...
Every time it was the seal inside the water pump. It was leaking out the wee hole that is where the shaft comes out.
One time it started leaking for a short time then the water seized the bearing and bang went the alt belt. snapped it like a rubber band.
had no water pump and took me about a hour and a half to drive home.
SVX once started leaking thought it was the themostat. It ended out being the pump This time on the SVX
So true. the brat/brumby was a great money earner and alot of people liked the brat. very handy beast that will go anywhere.
The only problem with it that it was only a 2 seater.
They should had made the legacys as a ute.
There is atleast one Baja here in NZ in CHCH. Its a nice blue and silver one.
looks mint... the black one looks mints
Some times even thats not the problem.
It can be the wire that goes from the ignition switch to the starter can be degraded ( gone green etc). It just doesnt allow enought power to go the solenoid. Some times works sometimes it can play up, and you get those funny noises from the starter.
Had that prob on my Vortex 6. A new wire and relay was put in and it starts every time now. starter was never touched.
The relay was hooked up to the ignition wire and new wire run from the relay to the starter or something simmar.
it's been done OEM
Yeas I know about that. its about a 3.5L flat 12...
That F1 motor eventually became realible when it go rebuilt by some guys that used it in there Race Jet Boat. I do have a pic of it some where
Ive had seen it on trade me.
is there any rust?
I would be careful if there was rust round windscreen. acoupe of my old 1s i pulled the glass and there was no metal behind the rubber lol. it rusted out
Im still looking around for a RX and a RXII
The SVX was mostly hand assembled. im not sure if they totally assembed the engine by hand. as far as I know they arnt blue printed.
The SVX had its own factory decated to there building.
Plus 1 on a 22b. I will own 1 sometime lol probley when im about 85 in the shade
