  1. Great guys, thanks for your help. Its always a good thing when you have a problem with your car and 99% of the time you know the answer will be found from the wealth of knowledgable people on this site =). Will let you know how I get on!
  2. Is this a do it yourself job? Or would the engine need to be taken out to gain access. Upon further inspection I believe the smoke is coming from the bottom of the engine below the coolant header tank? . . . hmmm
  3. Hi all, Well i took my car to town today and kept thinking I was getting a faint smell of oil. When i returned home i noticed oil fumes coming out of my scoop. Upon opening the bonnet i was unable to see where exactly the oil fumes were coming from. The smoke was roughly coming from between the turbo and the coolant header tank. Any ideas? I thought for a second that the oil was burning off the turbo but it seems to be coming from lower down the engine bay. I have a 2000 WRX V7 - Non STI with 130,000kms on it Any help would be appreciated. Cheers Ben
  4. Know this car through a friend's friend. Engine's been given constant death. Offer them silly money?
  5. The V10? My friend Will's, lives in Chch. Not a member here but i thought we'd pop along anyway.
  6. Can someone please text me on 027 4542 682 And let me know if meet is still ahead tonight? Thanks

  8. You again! Your turning into my one stop shop haha. . . Would be needing the whole setup, switch / tank etc the lot
  9. After one for my V7. Seem hard to come by! Has anyone got a setup they would be willing to part with? or Can you buy these new for a REASONABLE PRICE. I saw somewhere they retailed at $350 for a aftermarket basic one! Cheers
  10. I'd envy doing that on a regular basis, once a year is bad enough in a Subaru =)
  11. Nothing but good from sims. The place in Andersons Bay is excellent. Id happily take my car there for general maintenance over the Southern Subaru dealer.
  12. will do cheers bro will have a look
  13. Awesome, so . . . anyone got one for sale
  14. Hi all, Quick question - would a V7 STI speedo fit a standard V7 WRX? I presume they are interchangeable with just connecting the plug at the back? Also, how does the shift light setup work in these? Would the standard plug i currently have in my car already have the required 'power pin' to work the shift light, or would i need to hook something up regarding this? Sorry if that sounds a bit confusing. Cheers
  15. I have heard it most cold mornings when i start the car. Today i started it at lunch time and was a barmy 17 degrees outside, no noise on start up. I have only done 6000kms in the car since purchase. But bought off a good friend, may ask him if he ever heard it.
  16. Thanks guys, never heard this before from any of the subaru's I have owned. Great relief, i know exactly what a BEB sounds like . Sti8u, I take my car to Oil Changers, who put in a 5-40 grade oil.
  17. Hi guys Just a quick question , and interest whether other people have this ' problem? ' . On a cold start up, my car makes a almost BEB kind of rattle when cold. It will only last for maybe 1 or 2 seconds until the motor returns to idle position (1.5k revs until warmed up). The sound can be slightly different every time, this morning i thought i had cranked the starter motor a bit too much - you know the sound when you try and start your car when its already running . When cold, i am able to rev the car and keep it at a steady 3/4k rpm's or drive it down the street 1st gear at this rev range and there is no weird rattle or 'bearing sound' as you could call it. I obviously don't make a habit of this, just tested it today to see if any unfamiliar sounds came from my engine. Warm start up is fine every time. During cold start up my oil light will flash for maybe 1 second tops while cranking also. Unsure if this is normal either as I am not as knowledge ready with Subaru's. Anyone else have this querk? Is this normal? Version 7 WRX, Manual, 122kms. Thanks in advanced
  18. well by the sounds of everyone so far , i will probably take the drive up to view the car. Yes it does look very tidy. I emailed him regarding the vehicle . . . hello Ben I imported the car about 2.5 years ago from Japan through Yamato Vehicle Importers. No work done to motor apart form Cambelt, Water pump and seals all got done when i landed it in New Zealand, at 98,000km work was done by Fast Fitt can possibly get receipts for them as i used to work there if you where after them.. And no rebuild to motor, all completely factory as from factory floor.. The vehicle has been serviced and warranted by the same mechanic for as long as I've owned the Subaru, the services have always been done at same time of warrant to keep them all up to date., have never had any problems while owning it. It sounds like the go, Many thanks for all the imput!
  19. Hi all, looking for a subaru of the /turbo/manual/unmodified variety. Dont really mind about being sti spec or not and came across this WRX http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=361095971 Does anyone know the vehicle? Fair asking price? Looks like a straight car from the photo's
  20. Thanks for all the help guys, ill probably stay away from the B4 i linked above. I have already owned a 1999 B4, caused alot of trouble. I must be a sucker for punishment to be even considering another one, they're just bloody nice cars!. If i was to purchase another it would definitely have to be a revD model.
  21. hmmm okay thanks alot. . . so even though the engine number has 'd' ( EJ-208DWCBE) included its not a rev.d engine? thanks for the photo. Im obviously not looking at a rev.d. . .http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=359726023
  22. I am also looking at a B4. Year 2000. Has the electronic dash. Engine number EJ-208DWCBE. Is this the revised model of the B4? Im guessing it is, when did the new model come out? Car is registered in 2000, but is it a newer model? With the revised engine, are they less prone to cause problems? Any help would be great. thanks
  23. Yes, they are getting very cheap for the age / performance. Makes you think twice about getting a wrx or something for the same price if not more (I know they're not exactly the same thing but as a daily driver you must agree) . My previous subaru was a 1999 B4 and caused me nothing but troube, im guessing Subaru have improved the track record of BEB's etc somewhere inbetween the age difference between the cars. Thanks for your help, Ben
  24. Hi all, Just wanting your opinions on a car i am looking at purchasing. It competes well with age / kms relative to others available on the market in the south island. I have purchased a car off the dealer in the past, to be precise last month and they are very good to deal with. If you could give me some insight to these cars that would be great. e.g. are there two revisions of the motor etc like the previous model. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Subaru/LEGACY/auction-330457746.htm Many thanks Ben
  25. Looks nasty. Good luck with progressing. Post saved for future updates
