  1. I've got some pics, will post soon. Turbo is disassembled. Manuals got a TD04HLA-19T (190kw vs 205KW for the manual)
  2. Just waiting on Kinugawa to confirm this turbo will suit the Auto. It states direct replacement for the VF38 which is the Auto turbo, however the Kinugawa TD04HLA-19T has the same designation as the turbo found in the Manuals.
  3. Had a closer look with a very bright torch and the filings are not in the intake manifold (its removed from the engine), most of the filings are before the turbo in the intake hose. I will clean everything that I can and will definitely do the oil and filter (turbo bearings look ok, the nut holding the front impeller had come loose).
  4. So I've checked the AVCS and turbo feed banjo filters and they are clean as a whistle
  5. Do you tune cars, or can you source them and upload with your Tactrix?
  6. On that note does this mean my engine is a write-off? It wasn't making any noises before I lost power, just massive plumes of thick smoke. Managed to drive the car the short distance home.
  7. Funny you should ask No big chunks or anything, but the intercooler and intake manifold is coated with oil and there seems to be some very fine filings in there too......
  8. Turbo housing is pretty naffed on both sides but I'll look into this, any recomendations to do the work?
  9. Hi Team, I've blown my turbo, shaft has snapped and there is not much left of the blades. Mods so far include Subtech DP, HKS 3" cat back, and a custom TMIC from Scottie (scottiescottiescottie?) with 133k on the clock. So I'm on the lookout for a new turbo and need some advice. Option 1: Subaru want $3635 + GST for just the VF38, no labour/install etc Option 2: http://drivenperformance.co.nz/products-page/kinugawa/kinugawa-japan-td04hla-19t-gtx-legacy-bp5-bl5-twin-scroll-turbo/ This turbo is supposed to be a direct replacement abit slightly larger. Al is checking with Kinugawa to confirm it will work on the 5EAT. $1450inc. Option 3: http://www.subaruspeed.co.nz/products/turbo-charger-new-vf38-bp-legacy It's a copy, comes with a limited warranty, and its roughly $850inc. I'm open to all ideas and advice. What are the chances of this happening again, and what else do I need to undertake to make sure no more damage is done? I'm also looking for an E-tune once the turbo is on, looking at getting one from the States but would rather support a local who can do a good job. Thanks in advance, JP
  10. I wonder whats going to happen to all the imports NZ brings in that should/need to run on 100 and then get run on 95?
  11. UPDATE: Checked CEL and came up with P0031 and P0037 (Thanks Scottiescottiescottie). Since I have replaced the 02 sensor we cleared P0031 code, but still left with P0037 Upon further inspection I have also blown the SBF-5 fuse which will throw the above codes. I\'ll replace the fuse in the morning and see if this clears the codes.
  12. Yes, I still have the whole exhaust.
  13. Guess i\'ll be get my tune for 95 then....
  14. Should\'ve mentioned this was at BP on Riccarton Road (Church corner end)
  15. I went to fill up at my local BP, and they are no longer selling 98! Is there anywhere else in CHCH that this has happened? I thought people might want to know.
  16. The stock CB is already pretty good. As for fitting its a case of removing 2 bolts from the downpipe and removing the exhaust from the hangers - took me 20min to swap. Maybe keep the original CB and look for some Genome mufflers on TM. For the downpipe, you can do this yourself but don\'t use US instructions - there are way more bolts and they are harder to reach on NZ/JDM cars.
  17. Thats the same one that I bought - came unpainted but I have since heat wrapped Haven\'t checked the CEL codes yet, but the 2nd sensor looked pretty bad when I swapped it into the new DP
  18. Thanks, mine did not come painted. Have fitted an HKS ES Premium Cat-back as well - have also replaced the front 02 sensor but still have a CEL.
  19. Thread resurrection with a couple of questions...... 1) did your downpipes come painted? 2) did you wrap/paint your DP? 3) what have you done to manage the heat from the DP? 4) did you get any CEL after installing? Thanks in advance
  20. Re-checked the DP today, turns out one of the studs that you mount the DP to the turbo has gone missing. I thought just the nut was missing but the stud has gone too. Could an exhaust leak throw a CEL?
  21. So just connect the plugs to get the CEL codes? How do I clear the codes? I\'m gonna let my car sit overnight with the -ve disconnected and see how that goes
  22. Hi guys and gals, I\'ve just installed a Subtech 2.5" downpipe/front pipe on my BP5. Driving up to Hanmer I got a CEL but the car is running the same as before. I\'ve replaced the 02 sensor as it was very very black. CEL went away for 15min but is now back. I\'ve looked for the black and green connectors but cannot find them under the drivers dash. How can I check and clear the CEL?
  23. OK.....I\'d better check again tomorrow. I thought the swap would require the STi headers as well, would be sweet if it was though
  24. Interesting about the autos......mine has VF36 on the turbo label
