Buying a personalised number plate

Hey

What is involved if i want to buy a personalized number plate from someone. I am currently looking at getting one for the RS and wanted to know what the process is?

I.e Ownership of the plate?

Any forms i need to fill out?

Legal requirements?

Is it as easy as paying the guy for the plates, going into AA / VTNZ and getting the plates swapped over? (i know a cost is involved)

I think you can do it online. you fill in the form submit what you want. They send you a request to manufacture form that you fill in. pay them $750 or so and they send it to you in the post with a new rego slip as well. They also send you a return courier bag so you can stick your old plates in there and post them away.

Is this a first time making the plate?

I'm talking about buying an already existing personalised number plate.. same applies???

i think he means buying off a random not the plates website.

AFAIK you just pay the seller, get plates and go register your car with them on, maybe make a form saying you bought the paltes for $xxx on DD\MM\YYYY and get him to sign it, just incase the guy trys to say you stole them or some shit

sorry, I doing 10 things at once. All you have to do is take the plates off your car take them into the LTSA or VTNZ with the new ones and pay them to change them over. Its about $17.

The other person just has to show the pesonalised ones there and ask for some new ones for their car. Same price again I beleive.

good so if i carjam the plates and they are not registered to a car then it should be all good, exchange the plate with my $$$$ then place them on the car?

Might be a little but hard considering we are in different towns but i'm sure i can work something out, this is what I'm worried about

Make sure you get a receipt proving that you've purchased the personalised plates, with your name and the seller's name clearly shown. Take the receipt with you when you transfer them onto your vehicle. The plates will then be logged in the LTSA system as belonging to you.

Maybe this will help - use the form in the first link of the page. That way you change the ownership on their end.

cost 30c to put them on your car and you need to hand your old plates in.

this 30c fee is for the rego slip.
