  1. It's pretty straight forward to DIY if you take your time. Here's the engine side loom I made when I put AVCS on my GC8 (I also added idle control at the same time so that's what the extra plug is). The big DT 12 pin connector then joins to another loom I made that goes back to the ECU... I did it that way as it makes it easier/quicker to disconnect if engine needs to be removed rather than having to unplug everything individually. If you get stuck for the sensor & solenoid plugs, give All Subaru Partsworld a call (0800 278 2278), Rosco should be able to sort you out with them.
  2. An 8.5 wide rim at +30 using a 225 tyre will certainly rub on a GC8. Your fronts will be ok with the 22B guards, but the rears will need a lot of pulling/rolling, and even then it may only just fit (you will probably have to run a fair bit of negative camber to get clearance). I am using 17x8.5 +48 with 240 slicks, and my rear guards have been pulled out as much as possible (without fully butchering them), running -3 camber and they only just have enough clearance. So my wheels at +48 sit 18mm further inwards than your +30 - Probably best to use a smaller, lower profile tyre (215/40) with stretch so the tyre tucks under the guard...
  3. Since you are in TGA, go and see Linkup Paints in Judea (Barberry Street, off Birch Ave), they can possibly help. We have had good results with colour matched cans made up by them before.
  4. New PB at Taupo (Track 1) yesterday: 1.36.866 (IRC Race Series - KSports Sedans Class). Proof :
  5. I made mine with -6AN (3/8") top/return line, and -10AN (5/8") bottom/feed line... Pretty sure that matches the factory hose sizes. I also put a baffle plate inside the reservoir, and a breather line in the cap.
  6. Those are -6AN fittings (look to be exactly the same fuel rails as I have)
  7. Nah man, its the black sedan - I'm sure you would have seen it? the cage had just been finished when you were here last. It's gonna be pretty amazing when done, new turbo just arrived the other week (EFR 8374), and the boys are currently doing the fab work to fit it etc.
  8. They are next on my "to-do" list (one day anyway, when I get a bit more financial that is). A couple of friends of mine have recently fitted MCAs (not on Subarus) and were blown away by the difference they made. In both cases, dropping their lap times around race circuits - and this is using the out-of-the-box set-ups as recommended by MCA. I have heard nothing but good things about them. At work we just fitted a set to a quite serious 2012 STI we are building too... but that's still a wee way from hitting the track yet
  9. New PB for Manfeild: 1.12.005 Manfeild/FAE Winter Series Round 3, August 2nd 2015.
  10. You could fit an aftermarket pedal box, but seems like an awful amount of effort (and expense) just so you can use that up-pipe. Brake booster delete would be easier - but will the turbo clear the master cylinder with this up-pipe? You may still run into clearance issues? Get in touch with Possum Bourne Motorsport as they sell a booster delete kit (commonly done on rally cars).... if you go that way though, just be aware that the brakes will have a VERY different feel compared to what you are used to.
  11. Basically the same design calipers, use the same pads, yet obviously have different mount spacing... BUT, the Evo front calipers are set up for a leading mount rather than Subarus trailing mount so if you mounted them as is on a Subaru, the calipers would be "upside down" with the pistons around the wrong way (meaning the disc would pass the larger piston first and this can cause pad taper issues - always have the disc pass the small piston first in differential bore calipers). Since the Evo calipers have external fluid crossover pipes you should be able to get around this by swapping the bleed screws to the position of the crossover pipe and vice versa on each front caliper then you can run them the correct way (although I have done this before with success on other brands of calipers, I have never pulled apart Evo Brembos so don't take my word for it! Realistically, it should work fine though). The Evo fronts take a 320mm x 32mm thick disc, so wont have an issue using with the Subaru Brembo sized discs which are 326mm x 30mm. I think the Evo rear rotors are also slightly smaller than the STI but shouldn't be an issue with fitting them with those calipers. Oh, and brake hose fittings will be fine.
  12. Have tried it, didn't get very good result :-/ Tried 2 in 1 shampoo on inside of screen as well which works okay, but still not the best. I now have those window de-mister strips (like on rear windows) which seem to do a decent job - just a real pain in the a$$ to install them tidily and straight!
  13. Yeah CP don't do an off the shelf AVCS piston, they are special order. I know a guy that had the valve contact problem using the normal CPs in a V7+ build and ended up having to replace his intake valves. He then got the Pistons machined with valve reliefs and it was all good next time.
  14. Just use rain-x on your windscreen when on the track. At high speeds the water beads off super quick and you can see just fine. you will find that the wipers don't atually work that well at the speeds you see on the track anyways (well in my experience they don't). Biggest concern when racing in the rain is fogging of windscreens so it pays to keep your heater installed or have some other form of effective de-misting.
  15. What Pistons did you use in your build? V7+ AVCS specific ones or early square dish type? I have seen a couple of builds using early Pistons with AVCS and large cams have trouble with intake valves hitting Pistons and subsequently bending them all.
  16. there is a very high chance that your car already has uprated front wheel bearings so you may not need a hub change. Check with Al/Macbilt as I know he does do an upgrade for the old 5x100 hubs that involves some machining and using a larger bearing...
  17. Did you check out the link I sent you? Honestly, that is the best/cheapest place I have found to buy them.
  18. They are a little different (ABS sensor location, and I think height of steering arm is lower?), but still usable for this application as BLKREX's car has adjustable bump steer bits so would just need adjusting to suit the new set-up...
  19. Yeah good point, to be honest its probably more just me/my driving that's the issue and the DBAs just don't suit my application!
  20. I just don't hold much faith in DBA rotors if they are used in actual motorsport (which I guess is what you want them for?). Maybe I have just had bad luck with them, or they don't suit my style of driving (but I know others that have also had issues). Anyways, I certainly wouldn't buy them again for a race application. Perfectly fine on a road car that does the odd track day though, although a bit over-priced IMO. For one thing, the Girodisc rotors have curved internal vanes which I believe is FAR better at cooling the rotor and keeping temps stable than DBAs pillared/kangaroo paw design, so that one feature alone places them higher than DBA in my books. Give Mike a call and have a chat with him about options & pricing, he is very knowledgeable on all brake system stuff and is always happy to help.
  21. Speak to Mike at Prosport Auto about Girodisc 2 piece floating rotor to suit the Brembos (http://www.prosportauto.co.nz/shop/product/52659/GIRODISC_Front_2pc_Floating_Rotors_for_04-Present_STi/) Could be a better option than DBAs (probably cheaper too).
  22. I have got all those bits if you are keen. Drop me a message if you need them - my price will be a whole lot cheaper than Subaru lol!
  23. We used to run the "full" track back in the day for Manfeild Open Days. As Pedro said, for those that are used to Manfeild with its massive camber, the extension is very different and can catch people out with the flat corners! As far as I knew, the extension was not really able to be run (as a "track") anymore these days due to new regulations and permits or something? Anytime we (manawatu car club) used the back track for events the straights had to be broken up with chicanes and be classed as an "autocross" rather than a circuit event? Maybe things have changed now, or, since this is a track day rather than a competition event those regs don't apply?
