  3. hi there ive had the code 23/air flow sensor for a while now on my 1998 legacy GTB BG5 its not really been doing anything to the car but i have tried cleaning it out and resetting the ecu and the code has came back should i be looking at replacing it or should i clean out my IACV which is the other code i now have . also if i do replace it is it better to go genuine or something like this http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/subaru/electrics/auction-461014212.htm
  4. yeah probally more like 800 i think
  5. last friday i managed to get it down to a 16.6 think my boost has gone down a bit since i first brought the car and before i went to the drags in it so im going to get a cheap boost tap for the next night sometime in june apprently. also im going to make a cold air intake with duct and try to get a low 16 or late 15
  6. an auto uses more gas then a manual but im not sure how much more as ive only ever had manual subarus but in all seriousness if you want a fuel efficient car steer clear of a subaru
  7. yeah they are a little bit thirsty just a heavy wagon to push along
  8. was really easy when i installed this in my last car you need circlip pliers to remove the circlip then it pops straight out with a bit of force to remove the old grease
  9. at this stage exhaust way exceeds it as per why i only know by clutch coasting 1st its whines consistant with the speed havent noticed it cause i dont generally thrash first only on the drag strip normally boot in 2nd or 3rd
  10. hi there i have a 1998 GTB legacy BG5 and i noticed the other day when i put it in first gear and foot on the clutch coasting down the hill it has a slight whine in first gear. now i know this is common from all the thrashes people give these in first gear but my question is it ok to keep it like this or should i be looking for a replacement i mean it doesnt crunch into gears or anything like that
  11. yeah totally rare... i have a white one aswell haha my last wagon had sunroofs id say its uncommon on most bg5's
  12. yeah less rust haha my old bg had one the whole sunroof frame was pretty much gone
  13. yeah BG GT legacys are thirsty i have a manual would hate to have an auto one must be thirsty as hell
  14. yes in the legacy gt twin turbos you are better off selling and buying as even if you do convert it. a factory manual will be faster as they have about 20-30 more horsepower due to trying to protect the auto boxes
  15. ive had my current bg5tt wagon since early december and in the family since jan last year and not once has it given us trouble yet i brought another bg5tt wagon last year and it lasted two weeks being great then the boost issues came in at the end of the day its all about how well its been treated and part luck with subaru's haha ive hated them for years but brought one last year and have loved it it helps to have a bit of knowledge with subarus and treat it with respect and not thrash the tits of it
  16. yeah took the primary out my last one for the downpipe which might i add was a bastard of a job nuts were ceased on ended up trying propane torch and then one we had to take to it with a angle grinder lol which resulted in replacing studs on the turbo. the most fun had on these cars by far is putting the top mount back on lol
  17. not what i want to hear haha i have a massive whine from my primary turbo it still boosts fine so im happy with it however i think the fan in mine is toast as at constant boost it makes a whirring/ticking noise and the boost guage shows it moving 1psi
  18. lol not blaming the belt was just getting peoples takes on what it could be as this could also be why my car cranks quite slowly
  19. hi i have a 1998 Legacy GTB BG5 and i keep on seeing black powder on my alternator in which i would assume is the alternator belt in which i have recently replaced they cost 50 bucks so i need to sort it out the belt is on tightly it doesn't squeal or anything
  20. always good to see heaps of people standing on the side of the road doing nothing lol
  21. hi there mate any codes? if you do not know how to check these with a subaru follow this thread http://www.clubsub.org.nz/forum/index.php/topic,67.0.html http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~ccgrant/celcheck.htm if your lucky it wont be code 66 if you arent lucky it will be code 66 which is quite annoying to find out why
  22. stock standard even exhaust is haha it boosts around 10 psi on the gauge maybe the gauge is faulty cause thats quite low for a legacy
  23. well i went the drags got there fine and did my first pass fine then when i went to put it back in 3rd it wouldnt let me put it in then i stoped it still wouldnt let me put it any gear so i was pushing it back and foward then it let me into second and then i was fine again and stoped and it would not let me in first but then since those two it hasent done it again
  24. yeah had the same problem i got a greddy type rs from trade me and it had a 40 mm adaptor i managed to find a 25mm adaptor thinking that was the size only to find that infact the factory pipe is only 19mm i ended up going to a shop called farm and industrial and got a 25mm radiator pipe and used the and just clamped it very tightly at the intercooler end
  25. its better to ask when it comes to code 66 as theres thousands of results
