  1. Sweet, cheers. So I've either got an sti box in my car or someone is playing a funny joke with transmission stickers. Would there be any difference in the speed sensor output from either box?
  2. I was looking under the bonnet of my NZ new v5 wrx and noticed the code on the transmission is different to the transmission code on the strut tower plate. Is this normal? The code on the gearbox is "TY754VBAAA" and the code on the plate is "TY754VN1AA" Some website said the "TY754VBAAA" code is for a v5 sti and the same website doesn't list the code stated on my plate. It seems to drive ok, although there is a bit of a vibration when taking of slowly and it only revs at 1850 rpm in 4th at 50km which seems to low (i.e the car wants to do 60 everywhere ) If the box has been swapped how would I check it has a matching rear diff? Cheers.
  3. Can you do deals on other parts? ;D
  4. Just priced one at subaru dealership. $300 + GST. Funny thing is the guy seemed to think that my car should have an o2 sensor in the header and there catalog didn't show one for the down pipe. My car definitely has one in the down pipe, although my down pipe is after market so it could have been moved? Should I just get the one they had listed and put it in the down pipe or is something funny going on here?
  5. Yea, and nothing showing. Might see if I can find an o2 sensor to try and see if that makes a difference.
  6. Hi All, I have just bought a a '98 v5 wrx. It runs nicely and boosts well, however when lightly accelerating with almost no boost the motor surges. The surge is very subtle and doesn't seem to be consistent almost like a very faint pulse of power then not so much power. As soon as I back of or put my foot down it goes away. Anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this. Cheers.
  7. They are CAST, you can see the moulds they came out of !! I stand corrected :-[, I thought because they came out of v3 sti that thats what forged looked like.
  8. Not to expensive, easier to buy a couple of engines that have done a big end or cracked a piston. A couple of blown engines and you will probably have 6 good pistons to choose from and good heads as well. Something to look out for to make your build a bit easier. Subaru had 2 different piston sizes "A" and "B". B size pistons are slightly larger than A size and therefore will allow more room for hone/bore. Best bet is to find a closed deck block with 4 A size bores and then find 4 B size pistons. You tell the bore sizes from the outside of the engine by looking at a machined flat surface where the block halves meet under where the alternator would normally sit. Stamped into the flat surface will be four letters arranged like the cylinders. Each of the letters will be either an A or a B. Heres a photo:
  9. Yea they are v3 STI, but are the same as GTB '96/'97 with EJ20R Picture of the bottom:
  10. v3 sti should have an EJ20K and should have forged pistons. If they are forged pistons they will look like this:
  11. I don't know that there is such a thing as "semi forged" pistons as the term forged refers to the method used for creating the piston. A forged piston is created from a piece of billet aluminium/silicon alloy where as a cast piston is created by pouring molten aluminium / silicon alloy into a cast. The amount of expansion experienced during warm up has to do with the aluminium to silicon alloy ratio. More silicon adds strength but also makes it expand more during warm up. So a piston with a high silicon content will be rattly when cold. This can happen with a cast or forged piston. The forging process makes a piston stronger because the grain deforms to follow the contour ensuring the grain is not broken throughout the piston. EJ20K (v3/v4 sti), EJ20R ('96+ GTB) and EJ207 (v5+ sti) should have forged pistons from factory. EJ208's from BE abd BH legacys may also have forged pistons, but I am unsure.
  12. Mini doing gymkhana And anybody wonder what the Japanese did with our cars before they were imported?
  13. I'll take the Bugatti Veyron. need a spare couple of million though.

  16. Car: 98 v5 wrx Suspension: king springs, sport lows Mags: Split spoke GTB 17's wheels diamater: 17" Wheels width: 7" Offset: 53 Tyres spec: 215/45R17 did you have to roll the gaurds?: No Can I also suggest; fit over STI 4 pot brakes: yes.
  17. They will fit no problems. Only thing to look for is not all wheels clear them. Although if you have factory split spoke 17"s they will clear. Also very easy to install and a very good price.
  18. I think it is 50mm for non-structural(i.e exhaust, body kits) and 100mm for structural such as steering components and body rails.
