  1. both my v4 had them. recently had the black side skirts painted. because the end caps are made of a softer rubbery material it was going to require a different type of paint/technique. So i've left them off.
  2. i've got covers too. paid $4 for them from Pick-a-Part. boom.
  3. finally, after a lengthy hunt. brought crystal spotlights for the GC8. v5/6 front upgrade complete. ... almost, lip hunt on again.
  4. I looked into this a while ago for my GC8, came to the conclusion it wasn't a goer - can't remember why??? Would be interested to hear if this works. They look sweet. Go-factor zero though.
  5. fix it - keep it. But rebuild stronger/better if you plan on tracking it again. i fixed my GC8\'s BEB ($6.5K) yrs ago with replacement EJ20 but wish i\'d gone for a 2.5. good luck ... minus the pink wheels though
  6. installed crystal indicators from this to this, with orange bulbs then decided it needed phantom bulbs
  7. exact same job has been on my \'to do\' list for 6mths now. (have had the plasti-dip that long too :)
  8. i went to pick a part on the weekend. Saw two impreza\'s there with the bumper corner brace. So it is a legit thing it seems. Phew .. thought my car was some sort of orphan-hybrid. New v5/6 installed. And it looks purrty.
  9. V4 bumper brace. This will not fit the V5/6 bumper due to the moulded plastic fin (where the bottom of the brace attaches to the bumper) is cut differently. Previous posts on this thread suggest this brace is not standard/needed for the V5/6 upgrade.
  10. GC8E2DD is correct - those are the brackets I\'m referring to. Loner - Thanks for the input. evowrx - Correct, the V5/6 does have only 5 drilled holes across the top as you describe. (The V4 had 9!). Plus, 2 for the licence plate, 2 underneath the car. 2 top corner bolts in the wheel arch, and another 2 points of contact on the vertical braces which attach to the frame. I\'ll try to post up a pic of the braces and bumper differences tonight. I am surprised there are less contact points for the V5/6. Perhaps the V4 was over engineered, or a bit of cost saving by Subaru.
  11. i\'m upgrading my v4 bumper to a v5/6. have removed the old bumper but have noticed some differences when test fitting the v5/6. the v4 bumper has a thin, vertical metal brace on the inside of each end that allows two points of contact with other parts of the car. However, these braces will not fit correctly on the v5/6 bumper without minor modification to the bumper (easily done). But it raised the question of how an original v5/6 bumper is attached. If oem is without the brace, would there only be one point of contact on the top corner to secure the bumper? Also, the splash guards, and plastic air channels which direct air to cool the brakes will not fit the v5/6 bumper. Not an issue as all unseen under the car. I had assumed all the extra parts would have been retained from the v4 when upgrading the bumper. : can anyone shed some light on this. Cheers.
  12. You should be sweet. Only thing i have noticed is the new bumper has less (about half the number of) factory drilled holes in it. And try to preserve the plastic clips - they are brittle. Removing bumper shouldn\'t be an issue (hacksaw on stand-by), and sounds like you have all the parts. gl.
  13. Attempted to change my front bumper - V4 to V5/6. As I thought, the last bolt didn\'t want to cooperate when removing the old bumper. It won\'t screw in or out of its nut/fitting. And I dont want to bust the bumper. Off to buy a hacksaw tmrw. :
  14. just been to pick-a-part and pulled a heater control unit from a 99 GF8. externally the unit looks identical to my 98 GC8. 3 rotary dials on face plate, behind that - a white plastic centre part, and a black unit at the back housing the circuit board. The shape of the 2x wiring clips at rear looks like they\'ll match too. However, the parts number is different. Both made by Zexel. 503722-2002 (GF8 - on a blue sticker) and 503722-1772 (GC8 - yellow sticker). Both are DC12V. Before I get to the \'try and hope\' method (and surprise electrical fire), does anyone know if this should work, or will it cause some electrical problems if the clips are pinned differently?? I would have guessed little difference between GC and GF and only a year apart - but i\'ve been wrong before :-\ cheers
  15. Yip - just did this. Crystals into a v4 and kept current grill.
  16. my silver v4 spolier is fading as well .. coincidence ??
  17. i had a set on my old gc8. gone now unfortunately. sweet looking wheels - but a pain in the butt to clean.
  18. Mine does this occassionally as well. Light, white puff of smoke on start up.
  19. That was another option, to just replace the door handle with a second hand one and recode a barrel. The damage to the door is minor. But the area above the handle has been slightly push in, and not flush any more. Its an insurance job, so its just the excess to me. And a \'good as new\' door once complete.
  20. may have been minor damage. but 1st quote to fix = $1000. 2nd quote - \'just weld up the lock mate\'.
