  1. Yeah, don't worry, I would stick to 98 as I do now with the 3.0R.
  2. I probably get 12.5-13l/100km on average over a tank while commuting running gull force 10, in my 2.0 BH I was averaging around 10l/100km for a tank while commuting on 91. So my commuting costs are materially different @Batbaruman part of this is definitely selling this to the mrs, haha. Though she has given me sign off to buy a fun car, given I have convinced her the EVs are coming:) Totally get what you are saying, but drive into town from out west between 7/8 on a weekday morning and you will see that opportunities for boost during my commute are limited! Plus my wife has just gone back to work so we are commuting together, so I'll need to behave. I enjoy putting the foot down in the 3.0R, but it's not quite the same as when the boost kicks in!
  3. My daily commute involves crawling along the NW motorway into the city, so is hella fuel inefficient due to it being constantly stop start. I feel like the 3.0R is particularly unsuited to this type of driving (great on the open road efficiency wise). So I've been tossing up selling the 3.0R (or giving it to the wife and selling her 2.0i) and getting an impreza s-GT or spec.B legacy wagon. I would probably leave the car fairly stock. Am I right that a 2.0L turbo would be more fuel efficient than the 3.0R for that type of stop-start driving? (i.e. not at boost). Or am I misunderstanding some engineering here? I got really good efficiency commuting in my NA 2.0 BH wagon, maybe I'm being unrealistic in expecting to get something similar with a more performance orientated car.... Part of what's driving this is that @Dairusire showed me what boost feels like, and I feel like I need to own a turbo car at some stage in my life, and as per the Levorg thread I feel like I need to do that before we are all being driven around in automated EVs, haha.
  4. I like how @whitebait19 and @A_J_T cars look like different generations of the exact same car since they are both two tone.
  5. Pics that aren't of the engine bay soon please:)
  6. I thought you replaced the wrong sensor or something similar? Or was it the right sensor but wrong part since you went el cheapo? RockAuto actually isn't too bad on the Denso.
  7. LOL, I would expect that to be slightly higher pitched;)
  8. As mentioned here, I am getting different readings from my AFR sensors, so one/both are on the way out. Does anyone have any experience with cheap Chinese AFR sensors (e.g. this on Aliexpress or this on Amazon). OEM is $150 USD on Partsouq and Denso $110 USD on Amazon before shipping, so the Aliexpress one is less than half the price. I know the standard answer to these questions is "go genuine, not worth the risk etc..", but I would love some insight into what the difference in quality, if any, actually is? Plenty of things competing for a scarce amount of money at the moment and I would likely replace both sensors...
  9. So I used to think this noise was my power steering pump as AJ/Subirex had to rebuild my pump and my steering had a bit of play (pump was rebuilt and shocks replaced and steergin is fine now). Only ever notice it on cold start when leaving the car park at the end of the day and driving down the first ramp in the car park. Ramp requires full lock so thought it might have something to do with pump, but this also coincides with first shift from 1st to 2nd I believe. You can hear it pretty clearly on 6 seconds in the video. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4X2R3HQaipVZjJDU3JpRXhSRk0/view?usp=sharing Any ideas?
  10. #westisbest Though after strong factory New Lynn went unclaimed for months I can't really complain about not having a west AKL location....
  11. recent S*** storm aside about advertising on the forum...XRT from Barbados has tuned the raptor supercharger on an H6/EZ30 gen 4 legacy and has a good knowledge of the ez30. His english isn't great, but he is super responsive and knows his stuff.
  12. Good reminder for me to do another log to send to XRT asap! If you want to log in the interim get a $10 vagcom cable.
  13. ha, been out of the country for a month, first place I went when I got back was one of my fav local cafes just down the road from this spot....completely forgot about this!
  14. More powerful, but also much better brakes/handling than your mates' cars. Not really an apples-for-apples comparison.
  15. I can open mine if you like, have the right screw driver sitting in the kitchen cupboard...
  16. Agree to an extent, though not everyone has the knowledge to do their own tuning. I was more thinking if he wanted to log stuff now to see how the car is running before he drops cash on upgrades, then buying a $15 cable is a an easy/cheap way to go.
  17. Can you use cheap vag-com cables on V7 STI if all you want to do is log?
  18. I'm sure I've seen people on here saying that if you do a full exhaust without getting it tuned you can actually damage your engine if you drive hard...but I'll let the turbo crowd correct me on this...
  19. hmmmm, where is their currently a circus in AKL? I know there is/was one In Avondale but that looks like a nice mall carpark so definitely isn't Avondale, haha.
  20. I always leave it on too, will be fascinating to do a comparison, though impossible to do a perfect like for like...AKL traffic is too bloody variable!
  21. Hmmmm, I wonder how much the eco theory translates to driving in stop/start congested traffic. I generally try and drive economically, but the dulled response could totally be making me over compensate..i.e. traffic starts moving again so I accelerate, but bugger all is happening so put the foot down a little bit more. Also, I often have to make semi aggressive lane changes, sometimes from a stationary position, so I'm pretty certain I'll be over compensating there.
