  1. What don\'t you understand about what I said?
  2. yes put it in neutral at the lights just like a manual. I put my foot on the break whilst changing into gear from a stop start in my auto makes change smoother
  3. Yea when I changed gear in the vod it would make no boost or bugger all, take your foot off the gas and the repress accelerator it will start boosting again and don\'t change gear in the vod.
  4. I thought this was normal on start up as the car runs rich until warm. Mine does this so would like to know if it is not normal.
  5. unsure on mafs but I know you can test o2 sensors. Is your idling fine?
  6. Yea mine improved only for a few days when cleaning it. There is a hotwire that heats up on the maf when you start up engine that cleans of contaminants I think mine was stuffed.
  7. I have an 02 forester xt aswell, I have had problems with mine for the last year or so with it occasionally surging and not boosting properly. I had no Cel come on so was a bit of a guessing game. The car did drive a bit better when I cleaned the maf so I started there. I replaced the maf a couple of weeks ago and happy to say it has fixed the problem it is driving like new again. Try cleaning the maf and if it helps it might be worth replacing cheers
  8. Well it\'s got no codes then :-) it did have a code pop up a year ago engine lean on bank one but a clean of the afm and a ecu reset fixed it hasn\'t come on since.
  9. Can you get codes without cel light going on? If so I might have to get it scanned.Just been trawling the internet for hours and it looks like you can have a faulty o2 sensor without it triggering a cel..interesting
  10. Hi guys I have a 2002 subaru forester xt automatic. It has a problem where it intermittently becomes sluggish, you can put your foot to the floor and it feels like there is no boost and then a few minutes later you put your foot down again and it goes like a cut cat. It happens no matter what the outside temp and changing gears does not effect anything and usually this happens when the car is hot. Like today in christchurch was 22 degrees and it was acting like two different cars one minute super fast next very slow. I have cleaned afm to no avail got no codes and was wondering could a bad front 02 sensor give you intermittent sluggishness without triggering a cel, sorry for the novel any help appreciated ta
  11. Yep I did follow instructions to reset ecu. I think your right about getting a manual ecu I might try and source one. Cheers for your help Mate
  12. Yea thanks, I already read through that before posting my questions but nothing really answers what I want to know. And I also tried to unhook negative off battery to clear stored codes but the alarm goes off and I don't have key to turn off siren. Does anyone know how to unhook battery without activating alarm, I have tried with alarm off and ignition on and the siren still goes off :-(
  13. Hi guys got a few questions for all you knowledgeable people out there. I have a subaru forester stb 1999 which has been converted to manual from automatic. The cel light comes on intermittently for a few minutes a couple of times a day. The cars drives well with no noticeable problems, Now I checked the codes with just the black plugs and it came up with 5 codes correct me if I'm wrong but are the black plugs just stored codes not current ones? Then I plugged both green and black plugs and took it for a drive after a few minutes it came up with three codes. the codes are as follows Black plugs (stored codes???) 12-starter switch 22-knock sensor 23-mass air flow sensor 24-idle air control valve 32-oxygen sensor Black&green plugs (current codes???) 12-starter switch 32-oxygen sensor 51-park/neutral position swith AT (mine used to be an auto) Questions Is the black plug just stored codes and how is they are not cleared when both green and black are plugged in? Out of the three codes I got with both black and green plugs which one would most likely give you an intermittent cel which does not appear to effect car much? Any opinions or theories would be appreciated. Thanks
  14. My car does this on cold mornings and only with the heater on, once warmed up the smell goes away I figured this was normal.
  15. I fixed mine without even removing garnish, there is a small gap above garnish where I put some silicone sealer. No more water in the lights easy as.
  16. Yea do the simple stuff first, change air filter and clean air flow meter at the same time. I also put some injector cleaner through my petrol tank once and a while can't hurt to try
  17. Yea The cats get blocked up the older they get, so getting rid of the centre one will let it breathe again. I had all the cats removed from my gtb including the one on the front pipe primary turbo side. People do say if you remove the cat out of the front pipe you can cause the primary turbo to overspool, but I have seen no factual evidence on this. And I had no problems what so ever
  18. Won't do it any harm at all, your car will love you for it
  19. Well if the plugs are bad it sometimes only makes car miss when under load eg boost or going up hill. If your not showing any cels I would check plugs, coil leads etc.
  20. Hi Guys Today I was driving about 30km/h and there was a clunk from my gearbox and the eco light started flashing on my dash. It would only drive in a high gear maybe 3rd gear and would reverse fine ( I found out via the net this is a fail safe mode). When I took off from a stop it was like trying to take off in 3rd gear. Well any way I turned the ignition off and then back on and the car is fine shifting normally in all gears. Is there a way to check codes from the tcu? and has anyone had anything similar happen with there car. Thanks
  21. My forester is doing that at the moment its the knock sensor, It puts the car into limp mode that's what the lack of power you would be feeling. The cel light comes up intermittently when it goes into limp mode.
  22. Steering wheel shaking is warped brake discs you can get these machined. Maybe the clunking is the brake pads knocking around in the caliper they sometimes can have a loose fit and knock around.
