  1. Well I've fixed it! Simple issue, took out the AFM and gave it a clean. Upon putting it back in I noticed the rear drivers side sparkplug lead in the head was sticking out slightly further than the front one. Seems the plug lead is quite loose on the spark plug and as such had come away just enough to cause a misfire at 4-5000rpm which also seemed to cause the boost to be dropped! Pushed it on and went for a blast and bammo, its all back to normal!! About time I had some luck! Cheers for the help though guys Si
  2. I did clean it about 6 months ago, but only because I was doing other things. I hope its not farked, worst time of year to get a new one!!
  3. I left my circuit breaker off last night so the ecu would have reset, still the same on my morning commute to work? Might give the AFM a bit of clean tonight see if that fixes anything!
  4. Guys, I'm after a few suggestions from you knowledgeable bunch of Sub experts I've got a 98 GC8 JDM Its running a STI TMIC, MRT Water Spray system and has been running well at 16 PSI or so all day long. Stock BOV and solenoids etc, Walbro pump, grunty uppipe and muffler system. Runs clean and doesn't smoke at all. Always runs on BP Ultimate no question. 2 days ago I put $40 of BP Ultimate in and it started running weird. Boost won't go over 0.5-0.7 bar and it splutters as it gets there, either feels like a boost/fuel cut or the timing being retarded! I thought it might be bad fuel so I went and put another $40 of 98 from a different pump but at the same servo (Cambridge BP) as I can't get 98 anywhere else locally. I still don't know if its bad fuel?? but am guessing it might be something else. Anyway I've tried pulling the boost solenoid and cleaning it and it seems to be working, pulled various hoses and blown them out. Restrictor pill is still installed. Tried running as a test without the wastegate hoses on to see if it was running with wastegate pressure limits but still wouldn't boost above 0.7 or so cleanly, just seems to stumble? Is this something that the AFM would cause? or a faulty 02? I've yet to pull the rest of the hoses off to check for leaks under the intercooler, when I fitted the STI TMIC I put all new Silicones on, and that was 6 months ago!! It has always been a little hesitant to start sometimes (maybe 4-5 cranks?) but it still starts! Could this be a precurser to my problem? My black read plugs under the dash seem to have a couple of wires pulled from them so I can't read any CEL's unless someone can tell me what the colours should be? Any ideas? I'd appreciate some input.

  6. if your steering is hard, could be the PS pump on its way out. If it is, it will throw a belt when it does sieze! cambelt will be fine tho

    I.C.E for a RA?

just adding weight in my opinion......don't need no stereo an RA's supposed to be light! with all that stereo you might as well have a Ford Explorer
  8. check here its only a google search! http://www.eadz.co.nz/speed-camera-map/nz.html http://www.mkiv.co.nz/speedcam.htm
  9. I use my eyes! never had a ticket from one yet! Its not like they're not easy to spot!
  10. I fitted my mint v3/4 STI intercooler, silicone intercooler pipes, setup my MRT watersprayer. just need to get some nice fine atomising nozzles now.........should phone up Switched on Gardener but worried I might get arrested
  11. See there is an article on the RCM Gobstopper in the latest Fast Fours magazine
  12. just don't take it to VTNZ, go to a wof place with a brain and you'll be fine.
  13. that'd be easy to setup with a link or something you could always have a hidden override switch.....
  14. lots of new cars have this system, especially high performance ones. Lambo's, ferraris, maseratis, astons all come standard with a variable system! all of them are road legal in NZ. might be because they only open at a set rev range though!??
  15. It could take weeks to develop something from scratch especially with datalogging etc, and thats if you knew what you were doing with electronics. I suggest buying something off the shelf. Plenty of stuff out there, lots on trademe, or as someone said use dynolicous on the iphone. Lots of reviews of dynolicous state that its pretty accurate for a $20 app! I have a Kenwood head unit that displays the g's in both directions, waste of fucken time in my mind! As for datalogging, what sort of use would this be? unless you're a racer interested in eeking the last 100th of a second off your lap times it serves no purpose. Drive by the seat of your pants without all the bells and whistles, less weight in your car makes it go faster
  16. doesnt 1.3 bar only relate to the pressure it will vent at! So if you have no cooling issues and your car doesn't get hot then it will make zero difference to the everyday running of your car. You'll probably find that radiators are only shitting themselves because they are getting tired...not cause of a cap change.
  17. Check out here: http://speedhunters.com/archive/2010/06/21/event-gt-gt-subarus-in-san-diego.aspx to see what they get up to in the US. Some nice cars, and a massive meet by the look of it! http://speedhunters.com is a wicked site, setup by the crowd behind the Need for Speed game series, they keep an eye on the car modifying scene! Awesome pics and details of cars!
  18. great video, looked like he could have made up a few seconds in a couple of places.... especially the bad downshift to 2nd! 9000+rpm!!! he's a pro driver so got the best he could out of it in the conditions, there will always be a few mistakes on a lap so long. I reckon on a good dry sunny day he could knock 5-10 secs off that at least! I'd imagine the subtle mods they did will be encompassed into a new Spec C or whatever and then Subaru will probably release a Nurburgring special!
  19. yeah, i suppose they have the market for it though! if we all put in a $100 we might be able to buy one for Clubsub

  21. yeah bugger that, Id rather spend 20k on my GC8 and spank the RS
  22. I think if someone messed around with it and upped the boost or badly modified it then theres no way they will last. Mines done 170k and still going strong, but then I do look after my cars!
  23. mines exactly the same, 98, yellow injectors, vf22 etc. big hp boost over standard wrx's! supposed to be 280hp the same as the STI's.
