chains on front, awd you will get drive to front and brakes and steering, i've only had to use chains on my foz once, i've been first 4wd with no chains to go up ruapehu once and was really surprised at how much grip i had with no chains and only 4 peices of rubber on snow and ice, also amazing how quick you can loose traction when getting a bit right foot happy (i tested the limits of traction on snow for future reference and to get rid of the bloody 4wd comodore thing that was trying to park in my boot on the way up)
slow and steady wins the race (on snow anyway) and also give the car in front of you some room if it's a sketchy day, if shit turns to shit for either of you, you want room to avoid them, pushing them off the road won't make that much difference to the lift ques!
