Rally setup???

Guest

Recommended Posts

Hi all...

I'm thinking about entering my WRX into a few rally sprints, I've done a few gravel sprints and the car seems to go really well. Its got Tein HA adjustables in it but I think they are to stiff for gravel. Can anyone suggest what type of suspension i should be running....would stock shocks be better than the teins for gravel?

Thanks, any comments greatly appreciated.

I take it you have caged your car and are familiar with Rallysprint regs? Ie that the car is to be setup as per Schedule RS - Rallysprint regulations and Schedule R - Rally regulations (http://www.motorsport.org.nz/Pdf/LiveMM33%20Book3%20App3%20SchRS.pdf). As you may find thats the first hurdle if you dont have a cage, 2 seats, 2kg+ extinguisher, Zedka, First Aid kit and mudflaps. However, if your just entering gravel sprints they dont require a cage normally.

Im not an expert on gravel at all - I would recommend if your going to do it properly that the names DMS, Bilstein, Exetec, Ohlins or similar maybe a good starting point. Ohh and a 5 figure budget. Depending on where you are in NZ there is plenty of places that can recommend a decent brand and help with setup.

However, if you are entering gravel sprints - then I would suggest stock suspension would be better, a combination of ground clearance and the ability to absorb alot of the surface changes would make them better suited. I know someone running GTB Bilsteins (rebuilt) in his RS Legacy at gravel sprints and that seems to work ok (Ive spent a bit of the time in that car and it seems to handle fine too on gravel).

As mentioned it depends on the budget and also the level of seriousness. You can pick up a secondhand set of drummonds or similar for around $2000- $3000 if your lucky, ok fork out around $6000 for a basic set new. If you want to really spend money then the sky is the limit. If on the other hand you are simply chasing fun, there is nothing to stop you throwing a set of standard struts or maybe standard bilsteins in and having some fun. I have also seen the pink STI struts fitted to various club cars around the place as well.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
