Stiffer springs whilst maintaining ground clearance

I've found that I'm often (about every two weeks) carrying loads of heavy stuff in the boot on roadtrips etc.

Can I get heavier springs, either Genuine or aftermarket that'll keep my Foz at full height so I don't scrape everywhere or have my mainbeams point at the sky?

You can see it's sacked out at the back, and that's without passengers. Not much weight in there but with .

people it and some leadfoot it's really noticable

Ideas appreciated.

I know what you mean, like trucks'n stuff. But If I was going down the road of spending heaps then I'd either rip it out and put adjustable off-road coils overs or get two springs custom wound.

maybe run a dual spring set up (inner and outer)

or maybe a progressive set up

I would advise against replacement springs without matching dampers. If you have springs made which are designed to be standard height, but much harder (looking at your pics, they would need to be about double the standard rate), then they will not be matched to your dampers any more, and you will end up with terrible ride quality. The car will bounce at the rear like it has no dampers fitted... all the time.

Precisely, but worse, as lowering springs tend not to be more than 30% harder than stock springs.

I'm saving for one at the mo, getting an 82/3 fj40 and dropping a modern turbodiesel in it.

But for the highway trips and overtaking the forester's doing just great. I've read on american sites (forester.org) that subaru do loads of different weights etc. Gonna ring the old wingers to see. But I'll probably just get a public hater who'll talk to me like I'm a moron.

the fj/hj 40's are a lovely old beasty

you could also go a wee bit moderner nad try the 73 series as they are easier to get parts for and are basically an updated 45 (same chassis pretty much)

Type A's have Factory STi shocks & springs that are stiffer than normal Foresters. ride height is approx 20mm lower but that's hardly a huge drop.

Just been trawling around on offroadsubarus.com and found out that king springs do what I'm after

They do a standard which firms the car and raises the rear by 20mm and a long which lifts by 40mm.

I think I'll go standard all round so the car sits level but stiffer than stock.

the only choice now is either KYB's or munroes? THere's about $12 per shock in favour of the ozzie dampers
