Wrx GC8 unknown Rear End noise

Recommended Posts

Hi there everyone, hopefully someone could can shed some light on my situation, obviously diagnosis will be difficult without seeing the car in person, but ill try and get a video where you can hear the noise that is driving me nuts.

The Situation:

Over the past two days my V6 STi has develop some bad noises from the back of the car. First of which is a squeaking/ creeking noise, first off i figured it was no big deal as i thought it was probably just sway bar bushes. it appears to turn out the its most probably coupled with what every is causing the second noise, this being a rubbing noise coming from the back of the car(possibly rear hub?). this rubbing noise is the best way i can think to describe it, or a light grind. this noise is most noticeable on deccel at low speed (<30kph). the noise has a rotational frequency too it as something rotating is rubbing. My car also has the rather common knocking shock issue weather that has a bearing on anything.

My suspicion is that it could either be my wheel bearing or potentially a blown center or rear diff?

Any Input would be awesome. ive already lubricated the sway bar and it had no effect :(

just a weee update. the rubbing noise was the stone gaurd rubbing the rotor, i gave it a little bend and now no rubbing. however the squeak has got worse. managed to catch the squeak when the car was idling in my driveway so i grabbed a video of it. the squeak is a little hard to hear over my exhaust but is noticable. this very well may be in the wrong section now as i suspect it might be the trans mount?

noise is most noticeable at the end of the vid.

my guess is check the exhuast for fouling somewhere

Pretty much nothing else is moving at idle under the car where the vid was taken

Once again it looks like you need a beer haha. i seem to find whenever you post on here your always right ;).

after some further investigation and some lubricating of every bushing i could find i found a snapped exhaust mount.

the one that attaches to the bottom of the transmission to be precise. Thank you for your advice

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
