GC8 - V7 STI drive train swap

Hey guys,

Let me start off by saying theres nothing wrong with the parts in my car, I have just been offered a very good deal on a v7 STI drivetrain inc motor for cash + my stuff.

Is there anything that is going to be a big gottcha doing this swap? doing it all, motor,gbox,cv's,breaks,diffs etc. Comes with ECU and wireing loom.

One question I did have is my GC8 (1998 v4 JDM) comes with an airbag would I still be able to hook it up?

Also I have Coilovers from what ive googled they should fit?

You should be able to sort the airbag setup as they are on seperate ecu sytem, maybe a bit of work but should be able to splice into any required wires if you have the relevant wiring diagrams. The dash and wiring harness will be the biggest/slowest job to graft nicely into each other. Suggest fitting a LINK ecu so that you can elimate alot of the factory sensors and shit that could create warning lights or limp home mode occuring.

The v7 is 'widetrack' and would require all the hubs, axles, arms and preferably cross members to make bolt in easy or your'll be stuffing around trying to make axles work (different lengths and splines) If you use the v7 hubs then the gc8 struts run different bolt pattern but most guys seem to butcher then and make them fit up.

Intercooler may have to be changed too depending on strut brace or if you want to reshape firewall.

There will be lots of little annoying bits, but ultimately will depend on the use of which gc8/ver7 parts are used.

engine: everything fits, you will also need the power steering rack and line from the v7, as for topmount make sure u get the remote clutch thingy that sits on the firewall that got the clutch pedal too unless you doing front mounts

gearbox: fit, make sure u got the hubs and diff problem will accure is the brembo hopefully u got a 4/2 pots brakes already? and wheels that will fit over brembo brakes

wiring/loom: fit if u got a full loom and dashboard u can do a swap conversion just have strip everything down and get the what u call it i cant remember bar that go under the dashboard modify, this way you can use all the wiring that comes with it. this is how i done mine. the other way is to merge the ecu to your existing dash wiring which isnt so hard to do but can take some time. heres how you can do it: http://www.rs25.com/forums/f128/t141937-brydon-teaches-you-merge-harness.html or you can pay someone to do it... you dont need to buy an expensive link unless you are rich enough to do so... but if you are planning to do the merge make sure u keep the OBDII plug for reflashing/tuning

      Afternoon team,
      im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket. 
      Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.
