Switching from Normal Ac Unit to Factory Sat Nav Unit

Hi there,

Has anyone got information on retrofitting the sat nav unit and stereo combination in a 1999 Legacy BH5/BE5?

I suppose I would need,

New Facia

Heater Control Buttons

Heater control unit

Nav unit

Stereo unit

GPS receiver

Some sort of special wiring harness

Anything else? I suppose it would just be to convenient if the wiring harness was already there wouldn't it? I see a lot of people are switching the units the other way round and have done because of problems with Japanese language. Is there a NZ/any english speaking country spec unit thats in english?

I guess the reverse of this procedure might help. There's a few extra wires required that are not included in the standard harness that I haven't been able to easily trace so it certainly won't be entirely straightforward.

I have to ask though, why do you want the satnav? It only comes in Japanese (even the buttons on the front panel are in Japanese) and the only useful things it can ever do in NZ are display the A/C details and feed an auxiliary video and audio signal to your dash. The latter only works if you have the TV tuner to go with it (it looks cool though!).

There is no NZ firmware available and I've had a quick look at the CD that came with mine; it doesn't even use a regular file system so would take some insane amount of reverse engineering.

BTW I still have all of that stuff, except the GPS antenna as I couldn't be bothered getting to it, left over from my car if you are still interested...
