Help with wiring up Water Temp Gauge.

Hey guys,

I've got a Autogauge water temp gauge installed in my car but ratshitly the "mate" that i got to install it mustn't have done it properly and it isn't working at all (also have an autometer boost gauge installed too) - I think they're those 7 colour ones and the lights don't even work or anything). Does anybody have access to a wiring diagram or something? I suck at this whole wiring business but really need it working as my factory temp gauge has conked out. Thanks in advance.

I suspect your factory gauge dying happened about the same time as your mate putting the new one in?

Nah mate it's worked since then, that's why I havn't bothered to get it going. It has happened since I put a new forester engine into my legacy, I think the sensor plug under the intake manifold has possibly slipped out or something..Going to check it out tomorrow as I really don't want to take it for it's maiden voyage especially after having to fill the cooling system right up and risk the possibility of getting an air lock and cooking it without even knowing whats happening. Getting the aftermarket gauge going could be a quick fix too if someone had some instructions of where the wires all go to. Wiring just looks like multi-coloured spaghetti to me, ha.

Assuming its a generic autometer gauge, black goes to ground, red goes to ignition switched power, orange or green goes to the sensor. Then there should be one more pair or red/black or orange/black which is the light for the gauge, if you just want to get it working for now, hook them up to the ignition power and ground you hooked the other 2 up to

Check your sensor/sender wiring as well.

Make sure the color coding matches the specifications on the box/in the manual.
