Snapped Top Hat Stud

Hi,

My BL5 Legacy GT developed a bit of a suspension rattle yesterday on the front Left corner.

Had a look today and one of the 3 top hat studs that secures the strut to the chassis has snapped off.

I've got an autosure Platinum plus warranty with no excess. What are my chances of getting this repaired under warranty?

Anyway if I can't I'm going to have to take the strut out. Can you just replace these studs on the top hat? or do you have to replace the whole hat? If I'm going to take it out I might as well do all 3 studs.

I recall seeing a topic not long ago about something similar but can't find it.

yes you can replace these studs, i'd just replace the broken one.

just bash it out with a punch while its still in the car and then get one from a wrecker(pickapart) and slot it in place and wind the nut on, this will pull it into place

Pretty good, I wouldn't call a tophat stud a consumable.

But if you want to do it yourself I am sure the studs would be pretty cheap even from Subaru themselves. When I bought a wheel stud 3 years ago it was cheaper to go to Subaru than it was to go to Repco!

you do realise that the mount shop will sell you a complete new top hat for about 80 bucks?

Don't stuff around. Just throw a new tophat in there. Those things break studs all the time, so you might as well chuck a new one in.
