@lachlan I'll take you up on the intercooler, VF23 and ECU(s) depending on price.
@ginganinja is selling a HKS hi-power catback and I can vouch for these exhausts. Really, really nice. You may have trouble finding a downpipe as most of the ones available suit a GD chassiss. (They are single scroll and mount to the gear box, but they are slightly longer in overall length and make it a pain to fit to a GC catback).
NZKW do the black silicon intakes.
Don't know about the turbos - I sourced a brand new VF for $1,000. If you have the money, you should be able to pick up a VF between 1-2k or an aftermarket one that will fit the factory location in the same price range.
-
@Serchn I sourced mine from RHD Japan. I got nailed with freight and import duty, but it was still about half the price compared to Subaru NZ and a fraction of the wait time as it was air freighted compared to sea freighted.
I purchased genuine STI kit

Sounds like a mechanical issue. Is the accelerator cable free of everything and in exactly the right place?

hey guys,
Just wiring in a Mac 3 port solenoid to my GC8 factory wiring.
There is nothing on the solenoid to tell me what wire should be ground and what should be power. (I am just guessing this is what the two wires are) How do I know what is the correct way around to put the pins in the plug?
Cheers
I don't think it's polarity sensitive.

Genuine timing kits and engine seals are usually only marginally more expensive than aftermarket. I'd recommend pricing up both.
There's a TradeMe user called ejparts that has sourced me genuine parts for less than the dealer prices.

Right, so a little update for those who care. I've finally filed an attachment order to be put onto her pay and its been approved. The business shes works for has been ordered to deduct $50 a week from her pay and send it to me. From my calculations thats 72 weeks if the payments are all made and on time which means I might have some spending money for Christmas next year. The attachment order states that its up to me to make sure payments are coming in so a few calls to her place of work might be made. And while $3580 might not be a whole hell of a lot to be fighting over for the time its taken and will continue to take. i think an example needs to be made so the next person doesn't get let off so easily.

Nice. Well done. I've gone to court for WAY less - it's the principal not the money I care about more.

Anyone had any dealings with these guys?
They seem to have cheap prices currently, to the point where I may get 265/35r18 tires before I get new rims.
My friend has a shop in Glenfield and he's usually pretty competitive if you want to check him out. VIP Wheel & Tyre

I ordered gc8 braided line set when putting brembos in my gc8 and they worked perfectly fine.

Thanks mate, any temporary fixes while i wait for the replacement?
None that I've heard of and I wouldn't really recommend it anyway but I'm not a mechanic. It will chew through a little more fuel than normal.

I use an Endless 0 degree pad so I can run it on the street and track. I also use an Endless brake fluid.
https://www.prosportauto.co.nz/ is where I get my stuff from.
I think the combination works really well for my use case.

Nah but that's irrelevant (to me at least).
An email with the tribunal ruling is all you really need to do. Then supply your bank account number and watch the money trickle in (simplified summary :D)
-
Once I get court rulings I just send all my s***e to a debt collector and let them deal with it. The firm I use only charges me if they collect so I don't have to worry about it.

Still i'm too scared of RS4 maintenance costs, and can't afford both cars, so will be selling it before my 800hp build is done sadly. Glad to have experienced such a cool car though!

@MichaelJS what colour injectors and AFM does your car currently have?
-
Please confirm - did you swap an STI ecu into a non-STI?
If yes, you need to change AFM and injectors as well at a minimum. You should also swap your turbo to the appropriately matched STI variant (likely a vf28) and run an STI intercooler.
You also need to make sure that the ECU you've swapped from was mapped for the same compression ratio as what you're swapping into as there are differences between some WRX and STI builds/years. E.g. some WRX were 9.0:1 yet the STI variant was 8.0:1 (or 8.5:1 - can't remember exact numbers but the point stands).
Someone else will be able to elaborate on this more than I can

Has anyone used silverdale radiators?
Yes - awesome. Best value for money and decent core size.

Reckon a task like that has @Niran written all over it. Just skip the holiday for the Mrs and get a second equally sized turbo. You've already got the EFR part of the test sorted
This is far more efficient - great idea

The compressor wheel is the same, but the turbine wheel is titanium and is glued on to the shaft. The shaft is also different in the EFR series, as they would have to balance the compressor to turbine wheels.
Hmm, OK cheers!
1 minute ago, boon said:Aerodynamically the same, but presumably a cheaper, heavier material. Same flow potential, worse spool and transient response.
So I think what should happen here is @Andy_Mac should purchase both the S257 and the EFR 7670 and back to back test them for us. Then we can figure out how many $ per reduced RPM spool time the EFR is worth 🤣
-
8 minutes ago, Gripless said:
The efr have that titanium based wheel and billet compressor.
That must add cost
On the Full Race site they list the S257 as same wheels as the EFR "57mm Forged-Milled EFR7670 compressor wheel, optimized aerodynamics" and "Inconel 70mm turbine wheel, same blade shape as EFR7670" but then the EFR7670 says "BW utilizes their 70mm Gamma-Ti turbine wheel" so I don't know if they are different or the same?
Don't mean to hijack your thread @Andy_Mac 😅

My local dealer got back to me, I'll be ordering the gaskets through them, but not the washers or bolts
rocker cover gaskets: $26.45 eachTube gaskets: $11.90 each
I'm happy with those, but the washers and bolts:
Bolts: $3.51 eachwashers: $7.94 each
I don't really need those two, so will skip them
Nice man - I ordered same bits and skipped the bolts and washers at that price haha.
I have same sump too and it just came with the cork gasket - I'm sure they'd make you one up.
-
Just now, Technikhaus said:
So I took your advice and just did that, but instead of pulling the cover, I pulled the whole engine 🤣
It's also leaking from the sump, and the up pipe gasket, so figured easier to clean it all up outside of the car.
The answer to the question is the first gasket set in that link earlier
So for future reference the gaskets are (pricing from Amayama):
13270AA062 $29.6513272AA063 $31.77
The bolts are $800706630 $1.46
Bolt washers 13271AA051 $1.36
plug tube gaskets are 132933AA030 $6.03
On another note, I was amazed at how clean the oil and the heads were in general.
This motor has maybe 2,000KM on it, but all of those KM were flat out, no break-in period etc.Haha nice one!
I think PBMS do a cork sump gasket - I haven't had mine leak yet so that could be a go.
Genuine gaskets are similar price I believe but the bolts and bolt washers are hugely expensive.

Man they are cheap and nice
Such good value
14 hours ago, Andy_Mac said:Unbelievably cheap. Even with the extra features it shows how heavily the R&D bumped up the EFR price.
The only downside is the CHRA being journal bearing and oil cooled only.
R&D plus the BOV, BCS and IWG - but more than double the price 😅
14 hours ago, Gripless said:That is a bit sad.
Have to go old skool and duct some of the scoop to cool the turbo
Could run a secondary oil cooler just for the turbo maybe?
