  1. the first option is what I would do if I didn\'t want to spend 800 odd bucks. The Xforce products are very high quality so if you could modifiy one of them then I think that would be a good option
  2. Yeah seems odd about the boost. Some people are quoting over 2bar, some only 1.5, I dunno maybe different way of measuring it/calculating it
  3. yes it does, this is not the mp4 this is the P1 as stated
  4. 1. I just read that the mclaren p1 runs 2.4bar of boost standard, isnt that like 37-38psi? How is that possible over the long term, I mean that sounds like HEAPS and I am guessing they expect the engine to last a while too? Just curious as even in the early 2000\'s sti\'s and evo\'s and euro hot hatches only ran 15-20psi didn\'t they? Just seems like a lot of boost and I am curious what factors allow that level of boost pressure to be used safely and why such high levels are used in a road car. 2nd question. Was reading about the revolution sti that makes 510hp with a fully built engine, sequential gear box and roll cage and stripped interior etc etc and yet only managed a 7:53 around the ring. Now I know that is not slow really but a stock gtr or 911 turbo does it in the 7:20-7:30 time with very similar power but a whole lot more weight (probably 300-400kg. Why is that? I mean its not like they had a bad driver in the car or anything either. Just curious if there is some inherent deficiency about the actual sti platform that makes it unable to significantly improve its times as it seems like the STI was rebuilt/tuned with a much more track focused approach than a stock GTR or 911 would have from the factory?
  5. if you are still looking for one then email Mac at 41automotive Can promise you they will have many options Be prepared to spend 300+ if you want a decent jap made one tho Also try Rage exhausts, they are NZ made and I am 99% sure they make one for the V11 JDM http://www.fortyone.co.nz/ http://www.rage.co.nz/New%20Site/web-content/aboutus.html
  6. I would suggest going somewhere that knows their stuff with late model subies. The reflash will do some serious good for this. Where do you live, I can recommend some good places
  7. BEST idea so far. Talk to steve and tell him your goals. This way you can keep your factory manifold and engine bay look while still probably gaining a good 50-100hp atw with the right reflash after its refitted. Will probably be by far the cheapest option too and instead of a cheap chinese made turbo or a questionable 2nd hand brand name one you will have a fully rebuilt subaru item from a well known and respected expert that will actually build a turbo to suit your goals rather than an off the shelf item.
  8. Hmmm a very good point. I didn\'t consider that
  9. Only issue I can see with a new supra is that it would most likely not compare to the mk4. At the time of the mk4 the supra was the ultimate pinnacle of what toyota could put into a car. An amazing engine, good suspension and a great gearbox and probably the best aero they could come up with at the time. Who knows what it cost to develop, a lot I would say. Fast forward to today and the LFA is the pinnacle of toyota/lexus cars and we all know how much that cost to develop and what it costs to buy. What I am getting at is that in 1994 the supra was toyotas supercar and they could afford to go all out on it because they had nothing higher. Now that is not the case, so I wonder if any new supra would suffer because of the need for the LFA to be the top dog. Any new supra would have to be below the LFA in performance terms and I think that could make it difficult for the image of the supra in terms of what it once was in the 1990\'s and what it would have to be now.
  10. Depends what the muffler is like, if it is a massive cannon of a thing with like a 6 inch straight through design then it might make it super loud, BUT since it is a turbo and it is only a muffler I doubt it would get loud enough to fail a wof. So in short, yes it will be louder but I would be surprised if it got super loud since the rest of the system will be stock with all the factory restricters and bits and pieces that keep the sound volume in check. Should give you a bit more of that nice subaru rumble though if that is what you\'re after Do bare one extra thing in mind though, fitting a super massive muffler (if it is a big thing) WILL make your car 500% more likely to get pulled over by the police/harassed by boy racers.
  11. I wonder if the 1.8\'s are much better on fuel
  12. Just out of curiosity what are the evo 4 looking GSR\'s like. The 1995-2000 1.8 turbo ones. Are they reliable/fast? Always been a fan of them for the stealth factor
  13. I am confused, does the OP want to know if the 3-port and EBC makes more power or is more reliable in the long term?
  14. Have seen a couple threads with input from proper performance/tuning shops that claim 280-300kw atw can be made reliable (with a stock engine) in the long term with proper fueling/tuning.
  15. I have looked into this too and found a fair bit of differing opinions, the other large market for JDM stuff is the UK and the guys over there do a heck of a lot of reflashing and almost all say an EBC is not needed for a basic reflash with minimal mods, HOWEVER the tuner which I would consider to have the most experience in this area (Andre at STM) also suggests that an EBC is a good idea. He is happy to tune without one but he says he has seen boost spikes on some subies without the EBC, so I guess its up to you, yes it will cost probably $500 or more but you will have peace of mind that the tuner can create a tune which pushes the boost to the limit of factory tolerances without worrying that it will spike. Tough call ay? It it were an STI I would probably say no simply because the STI engine is likely to be more tolerant of a few extra PSI but with the WRX engine you may not have such a large amount of leeway.
  16. contact 41auto, they must have something from HKS, etc etc etc
  17. bump the factory wrx dyno figures from 120-130 to 130-140kw atw.
  18. Infinite means endless mate, as in there are endless choices
  19. S3 would make such a fun daily driver in the city. Just fast enough to be fun on the drive in and small enough to park anywhere
  20. A BMW to rival the Subaru WRX/STI, what do you think? http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/bmw/m135i/first-drives/bmw-m135i-xdrive-first-drive-review
  21. there are quite a few guys on the US and UK forums with over 150.000 MILES on their V7+ wrx/sti. Pretty impressive. One guy has 300,000 on his.
  22. this is nice for the money Just FYI other than the rust issues evo 1-3 are not known for any significant really bad faults, just the usual issues of replacing worn out parts on an older car. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/mitsubishi/evolution/auction-599319419.htm
  23. Currently new sti 69-73k new gtr 120k+ new 370z 75k+ New GT86 45k+ Yeah you are right, they are much cheaper now, not!!! :P
