  1. Not factory, sounds like launch control. If he has a boost gauge see if it is reading positive when hitting the cut.
  2. My V7 Sti had a 3 port boost solenoid, reflashed ecu and a 3" exhaust to a genome muffler and was making some serious power and getting 18psi in first gear and 20psi in upper gears and holding 19 at redline. Drove it hard for the 35,000kms I owned it and had no issues......I miss it terribly!
  3. It was, didn\'t take as long as i thought to sell either
  4. Have had a k&n panel filter on my V7 Sti for the past 60,000kms, I clean and re oil it every 10-15 and have had no issues with it. I have heard running a pod filter can damage afms due to the increase in vibrations which the afm has to deal with though.
  5. Spoilt the car this weekend, New warrant, 6 months rego, two new front tyres, cambelt, waterpump, idlers, tensioners, cam seals, thermostat all changed and new coolant
  6. After further research im beginning to look further into an R32 Golf. Look like it could be a hell of a fun car.
  7. The second one down looks like good buying, what sort of km\'s is considered \'high\' on these and any idea about fuel economy. If it makes any difference I consider 150km in a subaru high kms. The two door might drive me insane though!
  8. Will do some research around an xr5, sounds like it fits what im looking for. Only downside is they look rather pricey.
  9. hmm you all provide very good points, considered a GTI for a while but not a huge fan on the look of the car. Leaning slightly towards an s4. If only an rs4 wagon was so expensive!
  10. Hi Everyone, Finally think it might be time to change my car and looking for advice or opinions. I\'m currently driving a v7 sti prodrive putting out approx 210kw at the wheels, whiteline sway bars, downpipe, tuned etc. It has been a great car for the past 30,000kms but I am now after a slightly more comfortable car as a change in my work has lead to me having to drive a lot more which is making me not truly appreciate my car since all I seem to be doing is commuting from a to b. I want my next car to be of similar speed (0-100 in under 6), and with handling which is slightly sport inclined. Ideally id like a car which uses around 12-15 L per 100km round town too. I have a budget of 20-24k and have narrowed my search to the following; -2004-2005 Audi A8 4.2 V8, cost is around $18k (Like the look and comfort of the car but dislike the potentially expensive repairs and fuel costs) -2004 Audi s4, cost is around $22k (Similar to the a8 but sportier) -2007/2009 Wrx hatch, cost is anywhere from 18-22k (Pros are good boot space, reasonable on gas but worried that I might feel disappointed in only a wrx after coming from an sti. -Stock v9 sti (Similar to what I have but would be more comfortable being stock, not too keen on fuel economy though) -2005/2007 Legacy 2.0L turbo or maybe even a 3L (good space and people seem to rate them quite highly in terms of a good all round car.) If anyone owns any of the following or has made a similar decision your advice would be appreciated. TIA
  11. Purchased full Cambelt kit from Armstrongs; Belt, Idlers, Tensioner, Waterpump, Cam seals and Thermostat. Now just need to find the time to fit it all!
  12. Have been using Valvoline Synpower synthetic 5w-40 for the past 27,000kms in mine without issues and never burns a drop.
  13. Wof and 6 months rego, sadly nothing more exciting.
  14. Have personally done 27,000kms on mine and old owner has done another 25,000 on them with no troubles. Both front and rear have heavy duty links.
  15. Bought it off a user from here (Spoon), super stoked because I had been looking for one for awhile.
  16. I have one of those and they are awesome! The best thing about it over a electronic boost controller is it still gives the ecu the ability to cut boost and run wastegate pressure if it picks up something out of place.
  17. Where abouts are you located? If your in chch I could do some data logging with my tactrix cable to help you try find out the problem.
  18. Another awesome upgrade if getting the car tuned is a 3 port boost solenoid, gives the car much better throttle response and allows max boost to be hit in 1st gear as well as all the rest ;D
  19. Few tips on here http://www.iwsti.com/forums/gr-exterior/144445-08-rear-wing-removal.html
  20. The prodrive bumper and side skirts are on here....by no means cheap though. http://www.japanparts.com/ Side Skirts: http://www.japanparts.com/db/parts_detail.php?submit.x=70&submit.y=11&NUMBER=00003404&VOLUME=009-482-003&DEALER=&CAR=&MIDDLE=&SMALL=&MAKER=5&VOLKEY=&SEARCH_DEALER=&SEARCH_CAR=&SEARCH_MIDDLE=&SEARCH_SMALL=&SEARCH_MAKER=&SEARCH_VOLKEY=&SEARCH_page= Spoiler: http://www.japanparts.com/db/parts_detail.php?submit.x=34&submit.y=1&NUMBER=00003405&VOLUME=009-482-007&DEALER=&CAR=&MIDDLE=&SMALL=&MAKER=5&VOLKEY=&SEARCH_DEALER=&SEARCH_CAR=&SEARCH_MIDDLE=&SEARCH_SMALL=&SEARCH_MAKER=&SEARCH_VOLKEY=&SEARCH_page= Bumper: http://www.japanparts.com/db/parts_detail.php?submit.x=60&submit.y=8&NUMBER=00003403&VOLUME=113-370-Y71403&DEALER=&CAR=&MIDDLE=&SMALL=&MAKER=5&VOLKEY=&SEARCH_DEALER=&SEARCH_CAR=&SEARCH_MIDDLE=&SEARCH_SMALL=&SEARCH_MAKER=&SEARCH_VOLKEY=&SEARCH_page=
  21. Did all v7 stis get hid headlights? No, have seen one or two v7 sti\'s without. How much difference is there in a tuned stock v7 sti and tuned pre v7 sti in performance. Obviously its a bigger car with smaller turbo in some cases but has anyone had both? Hard to say in terms of dyno power but down low pre 4k the difference is night and day in terms of drivability. Do they suffer from the chronic understeer in pre v7 frames? I have adjustable whiteline sway bars front and rear in mine and had to adjust them to be less tail happy so yes the understeer is easily fixed. What boost do they run stock? About 18psi tapering to 14 (Depends on car, weather etc.) How complicated is this carberry rom business? is it a map you load on and can leave afm connected or need to unplug and so forth? Not too complicated (similar to any other speed density) but the person tuning it obviously needs to know what they are doing. Also that prodrive someone linked before isn\'t actually a prodrive model (no roof scoop, regular yellow gauges, no prodrive front bumper or sideskirts).
  22. I managed to change my front bushings in my trailing arms without a press but it was a bit of pain in the ass, taking it to a machinest to press the old ones out would be a good option depending on what sort of tools you own.
