  1. a EJ20 STI engine from ver 5 onwards is a EJ207 (also non sti's in ver 5 and 6 had these as well) centre thrust were built up to mar 98 with the ver 4. then swapped over to the rear thrust HOWEVER ver 4 was built until july 98 and ver 5 was first built from april 98 so ver 5 onwards SO v4= either centre thrust OR rear thrust v5 onwards =rear thrust
  2. i though i would post up this technical thread for those who think all ej20 turbo engines are the same (as some people do) just to prove they are vastly different LIST OF EJ series engines in imports to date (nov 2009) UNDER 2000CC CAPACITY EJ15e, Ej151 EJ154 EJ16e EJ18E, EJ181 2000cc Non Turbo ej20e, ej20j ej20c ej20d ej201 ej202 ej203 ej204 Over 2000cc Non Turbo ej22e ej25d ej253 ej254 ej251 (export or aussie spec) 2000cc Turbo ej20g- single turbo -legacy, impreza, 97 forester ej20k- single turbo -impreza ej20h- twin turbo -legacy BD/BG GT & RS models ej20r- twin turbo -legacy 206kw BG GTB and BD RSB manual trans models ej206- Twin turbo -BE/BH Auto trans ej208- Twin Turbo -BE/BH Manual Trans ej205- Single Turbo -Forester and Impreza ej207- Single Turbo -Impreza only ej20x- Single Turbo -Legacy and 08 wrx ej20y- single Turbo -legacy over 2000cc Turbo ej22e- sohc non turbo ej22g- 22b engine! ej255- single turbo - forester and legacy (and Impreza Aus spec) ej257- single turbo -Impreza STI as you can see there are 33 types of EJ series engines fitted to JDM Subaru Legacy, Impreza and Forester models, and each of them are different in many ways. for example -going into a parts department and saying you have an EJ20G engine and you want whatever parts for it will probably anger the parts guys.the EJ20G engines found in the early legacys differ to the EJ20G engines in the up to V2 wrx and were different again to the base spec "V3/V4" wrx/ -the ej207 engine in the ver5/6 is different between sti and wrx models.V7 to current STI also had the ej207 engine and that changed every year in design. PHASE 1 and PHASE 2 engines engines built before the MY99 models were released were the phase 1 engine. These had a letter after the numbers in the engine type IE EJ20g, EJ25d, EJ15e Engines built for the MY99 models and later were of the Phase 2 design, and were named with numbers instead of the letters IE EJ205, EJ255, EJ151 the change of engine meant a change of cylinder head gasket (thinner head gaskets), inlet manifold (inlet manifold bolts were not inline), bell housing bolts (phase 1=4 bolts, phase 2=8 bolts) cambelt, rocker covers (DOHC went from 6 bolts per side to 8, SOHC went from 3 per side to 5 or more), and some other parts depending on spec please sticky this in the appropriate area. cheers
  3. source is Fuji Heavy Industries/Subaru Parts Catalogue
  4. bigger plastic ones the alloy ones were probably a dealer fitment accessory in japan
  5. the engine undertrays were first fitted as factory to Ver 3 and ver 4 sedan Ra and RASTI and type r coupe. then fitted to V5 and V6 Sedan Ra, RA STI, Auto WRX wagons and Type r coupes dont know why they only showed up on some models, maybe something to do with group n homologations??
  6. the ra or stira steering columns are no different to the normal wrx or even non turbo ones the only difference is to what year it suits (4 types on jdm gc/gf impreza's). the earlier (up to ver 3) were different in part number between airbag and non airbag
  7. the 4 pots subaru and brembo callipers are interchangable ("RA Spec C's had either type as factory depending on what spec you purhcased) the only thing that differed was stud pattern between v7/v8 and v9/v10, size and offset were the same. front brembos are 325mm diameter
  8. the part you point to (a sensor?) is only available with the tumbler valve assemblies. i checked and checked again and that is correct however if it is the motor on the back of the tumbler valves, they are sold separate. last priced at $700 rrp +gst and ex japan.
  9. the motors i have found (on the inlet manifold spacer tube things) arent fitted until the v8 models will need more details to price
  10. the only way to know for sure is to put up the model code or chassis number or the rego number ver 7 hatches had the subaru 4 pots all base model sti sedans had the brembos while the sti RA (MY01) or the RA spec c (my02) were optioned as the 17" version (with brembos) or the 16" version (with subaru 4 pots)
  11. Ver 8 2.5 wrx sti engine?? ?? i think you are a bit confused as to what engine you have. (2.5 STI engines didnt arrive in the impreza until the ver10) it could be a Forester ej257 which arrived earlier? are you sure its a sti engine? and is the clutch for a 5 or 6 speed? either way it should bolt up to your gearbox but you need to check what flywheel is fitted to it- as the starter motor will differ.
  12. its been talked about heaps ive put one in my 93 ra optical has done one on his coupe etc
  13. looks like the model code info needs updated (but it is read only)
  14. considering the wrx sa is a domestic model then i doubt the usa or uk markets would have ever seen it. the model code for a WRX SA is GF8-B5BD not 58D it is not a ltd edition or special edition it is not a sti (refer to impreza model codes under model information on this forum)
  15. WRX SA Model built may 1993 until Sep 1994 (GF8-B only) came as auto and manual. with or without aircon on both models. the engine and ecu was the same as the normal wrx wagon (manual or auto models) had colour coded mirrors but black door handles came in colours deep blue (331), deep green (307), flamy red (936), light silver (406), black mica (47a), feather white (230)
  16. the wrx sa was the base model impreza WRX hatch (hatch only). will confirm 2moro when they were built and manual/autos etc had basic trim etc JDM only so came into nz as an import not that common in nz but there are a few.
  17. Ra models first arrived at the same time as the standard WRX (my93 onwards)- i own 2 of these. STI RA MODELS first showed up with the V2 models (GC8 C) Type RA FACTORY FITMENTS/ OPTIONED PARTS (my system doesnt tell me if it is optioned or as standard) GC Sedan and Coupe note - a Type R coupe is known as a WRXSTIRA model Coupe ROOF VENT V2- Sedan STI 555 blue RASTI white RA STI V LTD- option code 66- 555 blue V3- Sedan STI 555 blue RASTI white V4- Sedan RASTI Blue and White Coupe WRX RV ltd Blue only V5- Sedan RASTI blue and white Coupe option code 75 blue only V6- Sedan RASTI(3 option codes)White Blue and yellow Coupe option code 45 blue only REAR WINDOW WIPER no Sedan RA models has these as an optioned extra- only came on Sedan STI and WRX models i would imagine it would be the same for the coupe- but my info doesnt specify FRONT GUARDS there were 4 types of guards on the gc. RA models had the same as their non turbo counterparts, while wrx and wrxsti models had their own. 22b guards and gravel express guards were also different. With the infamous "ALLOY GUARDS on the RA models", if they did exist, then they were also fitted to the base model cars too. MANUAL WINDOWS All GC chassis Sedan RA and STIRA models had manual windows as standard, except for V4- Sedan STIRA option 85 and 86 V5- sedan RA option 65 and STIRA option 86 V6- sedan RA option 55 and STIRA option 73 and 83 COUPE models only ever had electric windows (i beleive) OUTER DOOR HANDLES and WING MIRRORS RA and STIRA models had unpainted door handles and wing mirrors (ie black) except for V5- sedan RA option 65 and STIRA option 86 V6- sedan RA option 55 and STIRA option 73 and 83 Air Con was fitted to WRX RA V1 or 2 option 66 V5 option 55 RA STI V1 or V2 option 61 V5 option 86 V6 option 73 and 83 HEADLIGHTSfrom the Ver 2 onwards, the WRX RA and STI RA models had different headlamp units. this was to accomodate the brighter 12v 100/80w headlight bulbs as they had different mounting lugs QUICK RACK STEERING these quick racks were only fitted to STI RA models (and type R coupe) from Ver 3 onwards. interestingly enough some STI RA models did not have a quick rack Gearboxes Front LSD came fitted to V4 + V5 WRXRASTI option 85 and option 86 V6 WRXRASTI and S201 DCCD came fitted to WRXRASTI and Type R models (V2-V6) and S201 and 22b models ENGINES 5th INJECTOR ENGINE these were only ever fitted to RA models as an EJ20G engine. Introduced on the MY93, MY94 and ver 1 and 2 and RA STI ver 1 and Ver 2. They all had the same inlet manifold so theoretically the sti ra models with 5th injector were not painted red COMPLETE ENGINES all MY93 engines were closed deck, MY94 manual WRX, RA and STI models got closed deck and MY95 STI and RASTI got closed deck blocks. there were also some other differences From ver 3 onwards there were only WRX or STI engines, the ra engines werent any different. and some other parts which i cant think of at the mo. the above list had been prepared to the best of my knowledge, but may not be perfect. if this list gives you some concerns as to what your vehicle actually is then check with your local subaru franchise with your chassis number and body model number or pm me bough to you by Readosnr

  19. what you have there is a 1998-2000 legacy EJ208 twin turbo ECU NOT WRX OR STI you can find this by searching the part number "22611ad983" and i confirmed this by a parts catalogue search
  20. early models have a different Inner cv joints- 1 side is longer than the other also you may find (especially with race/rally cars) the axles stretch and twist so if you stick the wrong side axle in it it will be twisting the wrong way to what it is used to and break (especially if you are running enough power through it)
  21. i have a 93 ra running a ver 9 dccd box i sourced a PBMS dccd kit to run this unit. this was easy as to wire up and get running as it only involves running 1 power feed, 1 main earth, 2 wires to the dccd unit, 1 to the brake switch and 1 to the handbrake (i had earthing issues with this and disconnected the earth to the car) the control box it cam with has a "drive" and "brake" knob which you can adjust how tight the diff is under which condition. as to how to wire up the factory dccd controller?? the factory dccd controller is wired up to the speed sensor, abs unit and ecu so good luck with that one!
  22. what i would be doing is swapping the COMPLETE loom otherwise you can get an afermarket dccd kit, but the factory scroll button is easier to use than 2 dials for brake and drive
  23. if you give me both your chassis numbers i might be able to find out the loom differences
