  1. to build, certainly 30k doesn't go very far. but, that 10sec 330kw skremr car sat on trademe for ages at 18k or so, that evlra guy only managed 16k or so. but at the end of the day, it's worth what ever some is prepared to pay for it. value is in the eye of the beholder.
  2. think of a 200hp motor sitting behind the drive train required to withstand 1000hp. it would probably barely move it. there would be a fixed amount of energy loss in the effort required to make everything turn, coupled with a variable energy loss as things heat up. the 1000hp motor would make the drivetrain run a lot hotter (and therefore lose more energy) than the 200hp motor would. the percentage guestimations would be assuming the energy loss behind a drive train sufficient for the power. a 1000hp motor in a mini with a mini gearbox probably wouldn't lose much power through the drive train at all. until it blew it to bits that is i've been told 10% fwd. 15% rwd. 25% 4wd. 35% for big auto holdens?
  3. i imagine that's without changing the exhaust housing or boost threshold? 200kw at wheels isn't a huge amount, but i imagine with it spooling hitting full boost before 3000 (?) it would pick up that power pretty quick yeah?
  4. but did it make more power than a vfXX? ;P if it's just a temp solution until you get a proper turbo, why does "max" matter? just run wastegate spring pressure
  5. i don't know why it matters how much psi you can run. your external wastegate should give you all the power you could ever need?
  6. i have teflon lined braided hose, it's just a prick to work with. i'm planning on replacing it at a later stage. it was put together by possum bourne and is specificly on the cert plate, so i doubt it's that much of an issue with what's used. the reason i'm considering the possibility is i'm thinking about putting an amp in the boot, and as the car sits for two weeks before being used, the vapours i guess could build up a little bit. i imagine when an amp switches on it could possibly emit a small spark at some stage in the process
  7. Surge setup in boot, non teflon lined braided hose, the fuel vapours that seep through, do you reckon they're flammable?
  8. i'll give you $1200 for your track car. profit. :-)
  9. i'm interested to see some plots you have of the td06/5 with the same spec as mine, and certainly with the trust exhaust housing too. either 2.0 or 2.5, both interest me
  10. ah, so the switch is accessible from inside the boot? i was thinking it might be, but wasn't sure if it was blocked by something
  11. if the valet lever thing is triggered, and the boot closed, is there any way to open it from inside the boot going in through the rear seats? kind of have no boot lock to open it with the key.... some tard other than myself flicked it and closed it
  12. sounds like another dyno thread really
  13. there's no way any one could receive a wreckless driving conviction without a clear definition of actively endangering safety of yourself or other drivers. this would not stick and no cop would even waste his time trying when operating within the speed limit. even dangerous driving or careless use would most likely be thrown out without speed or crossing of centre line. an excessive acceleration conviction is far more likely however i certainly wouldn't be scared to contest it in court and win. that particular law is written to capture idiots that most likely wouldn't contest it or would make a total hash of it if they tried. it's so vague and open to interpretation that there's no destinction between what would be considered normal and "excessive." laws like that are easy to build a case against.
  14. am still also waiting to see yours funky!
  15. it's all relevant to how and where you drive. personally i find that a setup like yours is really only enjoyable when trying to see how quickly ya can get to the limiter in top gear on the motorway at 3am. i've had a near identical setup before and any time on the street i'd get pushed back in my seat, i'd already be breaking the speed limit. with a responsive setup even in just mundane driving to the dairy you can enter a roundabout in 3rd gear, flick the throttle and still have plenty of torque to push you in to your seat on exit, and not even exeed the speed limit by the ticketable threshold. like i say it's all relevant to what you want out of the car. i try and have fun with the car on the road without jeopardizing my license so response is best for that by far
  16. nice responsive setup. makes the same as my 2.5 at 4000rpm
  17. i transported my rex from akl to pukekohe on an unbraked trailer in my 03 vy commy with extra passengers (which is also for sale wink wink nudge nudge). did a fantastic job of it, even with some steepish hills. pulling out of bends on hills at 30-40kmh it still has plenty of torque to pick up speed again. gas wise normally gets about 7-8L/100km on trips, but i think it ended up around 13/14 towing. for me it's the perfect balance for towing with town car use. i'm upgrading to a v8 version of the same thing hence the sale [/sales pitch]
  18. just buy someone's second hand up and down pipe setup. will cost you 1 tenth of what it would cost to have made. then just make up a new intake out of bits of stainless and joiners, and get an oil feed line made, and you're done
  19. Could only take one bad gear shift to kill it
  20. i had 240kw for several years on an open deck block with standard non-sti pistons and rods. where as some people with forged motors blow theirs at much less power than that much quicker every motor is different. every car and setup is different. every owner is different. as for the parts themselves, an open deck block is good for over 400kw with 35psi of boost. with your parts combination, i would limit it to 20psi of boost with every 10kw over 200kw increasing the chance of premature failure.
  21. i still get compressor surge with mine under 10psi when my bov hasn't started to open. it sounds different to my previous turbo setups though, i'd say not as violent
  22. Depends where its mounted though. If its in the noisest spot it will be more trouble than its worth.
  23. A vf30 is worth 500. 750 sounds like a reasonable price to me
