  1. I'll give that a crack at some stage. I only tried Sydney off the bat as I used to live there, so is familiar to me.
  2. IMO unless you have an aftermarket computer running a MAP sensor, venting your BOV to atmos is just silly and you should probably look at why you want it like that. (I know I have probably just offended half the club sub membership) The idea of the amendment was to stop boyracers making "look at me" modifications to their cars that inevitably annoy the sh!t out of everyone else. And I agree with that. If you have a BOV for pure performance reasons then a recirculated one won't worry you as it still meets the performance objective. (In most cases better as you don't vent metered air) If you must have one for the wank factor, then put an aftermarket intake on your car, with a pod filter or similar and dump the BOV back into the intake directly behind the filter. You'll meet the regulations and still get the skanks looking at car.
  3. Yea the aussie one seems to be the best one to get. I've emailed a bunch of wreckers in Sydney, but haven't heard anything back. So for now I have given up (snowboard season eats my weekends) until spring. The US one would probably work as well, as I'm not to concerned about playing DVDs or even GPS, just want to get all the car information in English. The bonus with a USD one is you can buy them off Ebay, whereas the AUD ones are harder to come by (I haven't found a second hand one for sale yet).
  4. The noise rules were amended and came into affect on 1 May 2009. the amendment states: So you can vent it to atmos, but it needs to be "silenced effectively"
  5. That probably won't fit as the factory screen is only about half as deep as that and the heater ducts sit in behind it. Not to mention the buttons of the factory unit integrate with the moulding. There are aftermarket Kenwood units made to fit, if you can get one in New Zealand. If you try and it does fit let me know.
  6. brake clean is also a great de-greaser if you can afford it. I would clean my kart after every meeting and use combination of de-greaser and brake clean. The brake clean seems to dissolve oil and grime much more quickly, but costs a lot more.
  7. Hi all, I'm replacing an after market BOV on my brother in-laws 1996 GTB legacy with a factory one. I've bought a factory one of "gtb36" but he needs to know what colour factory one I need. Now as the factory one currently isn't there I don;t know what one it should be, and the drivers side one doesn't seem to have anything on it other that a white stamp. It is a proper GTB with orange AFM and yellow injectors etc. Can anyone confirm for me what BOV it should have on the passengers side so that I can relay this information to "gtb36" Cheers in advance,
  8. In general I agree, however in this instance anything over about 35/40 kph was to fast and the 80 or 90 he would've been doing at the end of second was just bullet in the head stupid. Just goes to show it doesn't matter what speed tolerance the police have decided to enforce there are always going to be toss pots out there trying their damnedest to increase the road toll or I.Q of the population. I'd imagine ripping the handbrake up at those sort of speeds would stuff the centre diff pretty quick.
  9. Maybe change insures. I'm with AMI and they only charged me about $580 a year for my v7 STI and less than $400 for my non-turbo BP5 legacy. Notwithstanding the information you have, and we do appreciate such information, you might like to temper your accusations as such statements could be seen as defamatory by parties in question. Guilty or not if something cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt they are considered innocent, however much it might hurt us to admit it.
  10. Behind indy cars. A small side street with cars parked either side and people walking around. He was in a blue/purple BH5. He redlined first and second before ripping up the hand brake and just about hitting a another car. If only the brakes had of failed at just the right time, his friends would have been telling us what a great guy he was as they picked pieces of him and his car of the Hoyt's wall.
  11. Sounds as though it could be all a mis-understanding. I don't know the guy in question, but if he buys loads of cars for dismantling he could have been honestly caught out by a f**k wit selling him stolen goods. And if he didn't know they were stolen and cooperated with police when it came to light why should he be charged with anything. Could happen to any of us.
  12. That is golden. I seen a toss pot today giving Subaru drivers a bad name and a lamp post would have fixed him good and proper.
  13. That is a good effort, no doubt. But I wonder how many assaults, burglaries or other emergencies where people needed assistance waited longer than they needed to, to ticket someone for 56 in a 50. Personally I think they should "stick to knitting" and make Christchurch safe again.
  14. [quote name='Police Superintendent said: This year's low death toll was pleasing but not surprising, as reducing speed was an important part of reducing death and injury on the roads, road policing national manager, Superintendent Paula Rose, said. Police lower road toll = fail Road toll falls as most people stay at home or are working = win.
  15. I wonder if these police commentators have ever heard of "cause and effect" Just because most criminals smoke, doesn't mean we should lock up every smoker to eliminate crime. Just like dropping the speed threshold 6 kph has no causal link to a drop in road toll. None of the 10 road deaths last year were caused by people obeying every road rule, other than doing 110 kph. They were all either speeding excessively (1 was doing 160+ kph), drunk, a combination of the 2 or operating their vehicle dangerously. How is pinging mr and mrs smith for 109 kph going to stop that? It would be interesting to submit an official information act request for the dollar value of infringement notices issued during the 2009 and 2010 queens birthday periods though. I bet there was a dramatic increase. Blatant profiteering.
  16. Cold Cranking Amps. Basically the amps the battery will put out while not being charged at -18 degrees C (that last bit is thanks to wikipedia)
  17. Meh, I've owned two of these many years ago, both in better condition. The last one I had was immaculate and only had 70k on it. Still didn't go for $4/5k. The guy may get lucky and find someone willing to pay that much, but the story with cars like this usually goes; the guy who wants it can't afford it, and the guy who can afford it will be dazzled by the (insert differences here) of the newer model. Especially since for that price band you can get a tidy GTB with 206kw (i know what I would buy). But to compare this to a 22b or even a version 4/5/6 type r is not really fair. Those, IMO, will be the sort after "classic" subaru's that will command high price tags in years to come. Kind of like comparing this: With this: The wagon is a nice car, but not really a true collectable, and never will be. And I have pretty much owned every shape of wagon/sports wagon Subaru have made bar the latest legacy and wrx above v7 and would agree that the original legacy were one of the best made by Subaru. Much better than the twin turbo era.
  18. The brakes aren't going to expand that much. The maximum volume change is likely to be less than 1% (failing accurately measuring the volume of steel in the calliper and identifying the coefficient of thermal expansion for the steel used). I would imagine the engineers would have designed them to be much less. The one thing you may come up against, if you drive on gravel roads, is stones wearing the face and top of your brembos. I have had the top on the original 4 pots wear considerably after a season of snowboarding up hutt (about 40 days, so 80 trips over the road in total). I have seen some rally guys selling 4 pots that have worn so much they were leaking.
  19. That green thing has been hit hard with the ugly stick. I wan the coup, that is awesome. I did wonder how air flow got to the radiator, but reading back a few posts it seems it's not finished. What a cool car, kind of reminiscent of the the super GT cars in Japan. Such as this:
  20. Based on those number then I could be driving within their guidelines and still get ticketed. 104 kph driving speed + 1.6 kph upper limit of police equipment means they shouldn't be ticketing anyone for less than 106 kph if 104 is their guideline value. I would suggest if anyone here gets ticketed for less than 110 kph, to ask for all the details of the equipment used to get them. Model number and last calibration date. Read up on the equipments specifications and the calibration specification and take those numbers to court. Chances are you can add all the tolerances up to be more than the ticketed speed and if not they would be so close you could argue the difference is less than the thickness of the needle in your car. Seems to me the police are on shaky ground here, none of the equipment, speedos radar etc, is designed to be this accurate. If it was, we would all have digital speedos in our cars by now.
  21. I wonder if I can prove my cay stops in the same distance from 140 kph to 0 kph as my mothers 4wd takes to go from 90 kph to 0 kph if I will be aloud to do 140 everywhere I think not. I love on stuff they quote 10 people dead this time last year.....was any of them due to them doing 110 kph instead of 104 kph? It is this sort of thing that that get the public pissed off. They have enough people to hide in bushes catching people cutting the corner or doing 105 kph but claim under-resourced when it comes to the P problem or violent crime in Chch CBD.
  22. This whole thing has got to be profit driven or at the very least driven by some very silly people. The stopping distance thing is bulls**t plain and simple. They can claim all the physics in the world (yes I went to 6th form science as well) but the fact is there are so many factors that have a greater affect on stopping distance. For instance tyre pressure, shock absorbers quality/maintenance, breaking ability of car, weight of vehicle, quality of tyres, reaction time of driver. You can add more stopping distance to a car travelling 100 kph than 110 kph just by under inflating the tyres by 10 psi. I don't see cops out there ticketing people for incorrectly inflated tyres (which could be an easily administered road side test). I don't speed, have only had two speeding tickets in my life. the whole 10 kph thing gives you a bit of lee way to be a smooth and consistent driver. Look down every now and then and re-adjust. In my STi 10kph on the speedo at 100 kph was a fraction of movement in the accelerator pedal. the other thing is the tolerances of all the equipment involved. The car and the radar/laser. I am sure the tolerances of each added together will be more than the new 4 kph allowance. In fact I would put a lazy fiver on that 4 kph being the tolerance of the police equipment. My 2 cents.
  23. I think how the angles are calculated is based on gravity. Gravity being 9.81 m/s/s the chair moves to a proportion of the acceleration (9.81 m/s2) that the computer thinks the car would be pulling. I.e. 1g is an acceleration of 9.81 m/s2 which would be the simulator on its side for cornering, front up in the air for accelerating, back up in the air for breaking. 9.81 m/s2 or 1g is the maximum this machine could simulate in any one direction so would be ok for most street cars, but would struggle to simulate cornering force of a lot of race cars. I've been on a few and they always make me sick for some reason.
  24. Does it have Sat Nav? Mine has options in there (in Japanese) to change alarm settings. There might be something in there you can change.
  25. I am just making a suggestion Joker, so please don't take it the wrong way. A couple of points: vorb, another NZ forum much like ours, has a feedback system. Trade me charge massive fees. And I personnaly mostly list stuff I am selling on trade me, but when someone places a wanted ad I will respond if I can help. I have done this a few times and would have a good rating. In the future that rating would put peoples mind at ease rather than stop them from being ripped off. Or if they had two offers they could go with the safest option. I'll stop flogging the dead horse now.
