  1. What @Andy_Mac said is right, but to expand on it. To achieve 300KW+ you need a very high flowing high pressure Fuel pump, this goes up the feed line pressurised and through the rails to the regulator. Regulator then sends fuel back down the return line to tank. The part of the stock hanger which is returning fuel simply cannot flow enough fuel out of it to keep pace with the bypassed amount from regulator. What happens next is rather than the Return line being unpressurised, it starts building pressure, which affects the performance of the regulator which in turn causes flow/pressure issues down the feed line, which then causes the fuel pump to cavitate. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cavitation link for reference if you don't know what it is. So in short, you modify/replace/change the stock hanger so there is no restriction and thus no pressure issues which could solve your entire problem. The reason why going to a surge tank solves this issue is because you also change from a high pressure fuel pump, to a low pressure high flow pump which just dumps into the Surge tank. EDITS: Because I'm dyslexic, I'm fixing my grammar and spelling as I spot it. Have to re-read things like this 10,000 times to make sure I've got it all
  2. You know as soon as I listened and watched that video I called it being spark plugs before I saw your solution. Why? I've done the same thing before haha.
  3. I'm wondering if we should open this up to praise and give constructive criticism over the businesses. Aka what their perceived strengths are and where you feel they didn't live up to the expectations. To be clear, it isn't to be a bashing thread and the businesses themselves are more than welcome to speak and give their own thoughts and feedback if @boon and others would like to go ahead? I will heavily moderate (so it doesn't turn into a flame war) the thread if we move forward and if anyone feels like they'd like an Anonymous post, I'll be happy to accommodate.
  4. LOL NOPE not staying like that, but gotta have a little fun eh Also, made a purchase this morning as I needed a new BOV. Couldn't help myself but get something a little coloruful haha
  5. Yeah. It sounds grouse af http://cloud.tapatalk.com/s/5c623fc0e149a/received_435739457164398.mp4 Sent from my TA-1012 using Tapatalk
  6. Thank you mate. It's been a huge long road to just getting it running again, so a big thank you to yourself for all the help! Sent from my TA-1012 using Tapatalk
  7. Well, good news is good. The RA is running again after 2 years. Took a while to hunt down and fix the random niggly issues like the fuel leaks and small wiring issues that turned out to be nothing. Its running on full e85 which is awesome. Narrowband sensor doesn't cut the mustard though as expected haha. So wideband will go in tonight, as will the fuel pressure sensor and I'll try sort ethanol content sensor too Sent from my TA-1012 using Tapatalk
  8. Ugh. Can't catch a break with this bloody car. It's all together, few small fuel leaks thanks to missalignment of fuel rail to injectors. No big deal. However, it looks like I have a dead injector driver in the ecu but I can't confirm this until I've got a spare ecu to test this. Soooo anyone got a spare G4 storm or extreme? 9. But what turbo is it? Standard legacy or standard sti? Sent from my TA-1012 using Tapatalk
  10. It's actually on the same (if not a little lower) boost, but in general I think it could've got there before without the springs. Jason is just a very good tuner. If it was built and had larger fuel injectors it by far would've gone above it. It was wanting to as far as the torque was concerned, and that was dialed back. Who is doing your tuning? 11. Yep Furze still owns it and D tech originally only made 265kw on 98. SAS did a great job and got 275kw from it on 98 and 302kw on e85. The limiting factor obviously being a factory bottom end and the 1000cc injectors running out of flow thanks to ethanol. Sent from my TA-1012 using Tapatalk
  12. I don't know what I'll be running. However, it won't be any of those. Here's why. The td05's are old as hell technology. They're not a bad turbo, you can just do much better. GTX3071R is a great turbo. Better off getting a Holset or turbo from Steve Murch for the price you pay as Garrett's are EXPENSIVE (for what you get). The Garrett 550 turbo looks to be awesome, but once again, same thing as the GTX3071R. Expensive for what you get and similar results can be had from a much cheaper holset based turbo from Murch. Now I'm not sure what turbo I'll get yet. My build is some time off, but likely I'll either go down the range of EFR's or I will use one of murches new in-house turbos. BorgWarner EFR series Cons. They're god awful expensive. If you nuke it, good luck getting it rebuilt or fixed. They're VERY long. So hard to get in the right spot. PROS: They're bloody amazing with spool characteristics. Built in BOV, wastegate and boost controller. Means much less money spent on extra fabrication work and kinda levels the price difference between a Garrett and holset tbh. All round VERY good turbos when done properly. Holset/Steve Murch turbos Conns: Big turbos. Hard to fit nicely. A lot of fakes out there (holset). Buy genuine from Murch direct. No integrated bov or wastegate. Lots of fab (like Garrett). Holsets can be laggier than the others unless you're twinscroll. This is where Holsets come into their stride. Pros: CHEAP. CHEAP. CHEAP! As long as you've explained your build properly and what you want from the car, Murch can give you exactly or near what you need. Very sharp pricing on rebuilding turbo or servicing etc. NZ made and assembled turbos. That's VERY basic but that's why I'd sway to either of these two, rather than Garrett or an old school TD turbo. Take your pick, but make sure you really keep your mind open and don't for the love of God pick something just because of its brand name. Sent from my TA-1012 using Tapatalk
  13. So I called it! Car didn't start today LOL! Still got a fair bit done. Also, photos as promised of the fuel system and stuffs as it was last night. Not gonna lie, I got reeeeeeally twitchy when we had to get the grinder out and cut the bumper bar. Intercooler is in but the charge pipes are such crap. So they're not in position properly. Screw it lol Sent from my TA-1012 using Tapatalk
  14. Yah pretty much! I'm gonna hoon around on this stuo for a little bit and once I've got the cash, take the big dive and hand it over. Sent from my TA-1012 using Tapatalk
  15. After a maaaaassive mission today with @RaKid and @lowandy the fuel system is done, loom is in and plugged up, all the ancillaries are on the car, I've probably forgotten something and the car won't start tomorrow, but sh1t, it went from 40% done to 85-90% there. The big task of the day was mostly getting the fuel system in and done in the right places. It looks pretty dang cool. There will be more photos tomorrow as these were taken much earlier in the day of the progress, but not the finished item.
  16. Thats the point of what I'm doing. With that 2.0 CBD you retain the strength with sleeving, and then convert to dual thrust. go to 2.2L 96MM sleeve rather than the 2.5 99 (or 99.5 - 100 depending on your route), and hiff in a 2.5L crank. You get to keep for the most part the RPM's of a smaller 2.0 motor while having some of the torque or the 2.5. It's a good middle ground that not many people in NZ have caught onto yet, and I'm gonna run with it and see how far I can push it. Closed deck, sleeved and forged internals could see me well.
  17. It is indeed the EJ205. I think what I'm gonna end up doing is sleeving the CDB I blew up to 2.2L and then stroking it to 2.35. Something different that's not really done here and is known to work well overseas.
  18. Got stuck into the RA today. Clutch is in, motor is in. Tomorrow is fueling and electronics and me finding out the parts that have gone missing over two years. Lets get er dooone!
  19. You know something is gonna be loud when it's sitting on the floor and you can already imagine the "Crap... My neighbours are gonna hate me" amount of loud it's gonna be.
  20. Other than It's janky af? [emoji23][emoji23] Sent from my TA-1012 using Tapatalk
  21. I've now decided it's cheaper for me to just get the RA running with the WRX motor I've got in it than it is to trailer/transport it down haha. So I'll do that this weekend.
  22. Just spoke to them about 15 ago, and it's about $1100+Gst with them.
