  1. can get forged Mahle Pistons for decent price. chances are you may have to go 0.5mm oversize. use no less than V7 rods. and i second what evowrx says re using genuine parts for everything else.
  2. Just rebuild engine. Heaps easier. Remove engine yourself and strip to shortblock, have someone rebuild the short block then assemble long block and install again yourself.
  3. one of the last models of the wrx that is true to the rally heritage imo. From the 2000+ they went soft.
  4. V5 STI Ra Ltd. first car ever bought. still got it. love it.
  5. I would say it was a good debate of differing points of view that ended with both parties happy.
  6. Fair call. Everything has their place. For track use u need as strong as you can. I understand that. For road use the cost of that is not really justified. I realise motorpsort is a totally different ball game. But any small improvement on a road car is all ways nice.
  7. not losing my sh*t. Just interested to know your recommendations. You have a lot to say how useless they are but have not provided us with the better solution. Can you tell us what it is? Or do you not know at all? All I can say is I believe they made a difference to my car as I did a drive before fitment and through the same road directly after I fitted it. The car definitely felt better and I am happy with their performance on my car so I will keep using them For arguments sake are bigger sway bars crap too? I mean the car comes factory with sway bars so why change them? Just saying. Also why are cusco roll cages crap, surely a car with one of them is going to be a bit stronger in a roll over than one without? I'm guessing your subaru or what ever car you have is the fastest in nz of its type due to the handling prowess and knowledge you have. Anyway everyone entitled to their opinion so i'm not worried. It's a good debate. This could be a business venture for you! Start manufacturing handling solutions for cars and put cusco and other big brands to shame and out of business. Let me know how you get on.
  8. since you know better than cusco, ultra racing, and subaru themselves etc, who no doubt did a lot of testing before making any type of strut brace for the sti to make sure it actually made a difference, what do you recommend for handling performance??? weld in steel bars all over the place? but whoops that defeats the purpose of an easy DIY bolt on part.
  9. Disagree. Made a big difference on my car. Have you ever even used one??? They may be made off aluminium but they do reduce the amount of movement in the chassis. Any brace joining one side of the car to the other is going to stiffen it up more than without it.
  10. +1 about K-Brace. they make the steering a heap more responsive and cornering feels a lot better. (i think i have a spare one somewhere) and used with an Anti Lift kit is magic. also don't go past a rear strut brace, i found i had a lot more grip when getting on the gas mid corner. car feels a lot tighter and you can feel the rear tyres biting in. this is on a GC8 with standard struts and tein low springs. both braces made a world of difference.
  11. yep pretty familiar with the specs of the v11 imprezas. just make the car your own bruv! if it looks good to you keep it like it. if it looks crap change it. my motto is keep it personal cos you are the one that gonna be driving it. not everyone else. as far as the lips goes yes the ez lip does do it's job and is a cheap option.
  12. they are more a portective thing than a proper lip tbh. i put one on the ra underneath the factory lip just to give the front of the car a difference and it made it look more staunch. the best on thos V11's is a proper lip but hey something like this will improve the looks a bit regardless.
  13. i can't vote for anything!!! it keeps coming up with a sign in thing and then when i sign in using the information i used to upload my photo it won't even sign me in. bit confused!!!
  14. possibility i may go and have a look at this car out of interest. Not sure that i would end up buying it tho cos i don"t really need two cars. If kept mint i can"t see it going down in value. just as to boons comment about another bits being stuffed. That comes down to how the cars been cared for not totally how many km's it has done. oh and also try find a GC8 that isn't worn out?!?! i mean if you wanna be fussy, in all reality what bushes don't need replacing on any GC8, if anything they are 16yrs old so even if they have been in the shed they would be a little bit brittle etc. the fact is the car won't just fall to bits for no reason. you would pay $5500 for a standard STI these days, for an extra $1000 this ra is a far better car!
  15. totally agree with you there! ideal to bring back to mint factory condition. has all the goodies for an ideal track car. also very good cheap targa rally car too.
  16. i know it ain't a wagon but if you are looking for a track car. what more could you want than this! DCCD, RA goodness, how much better can you get really. and the price is unbelievably good. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=1168424969
  17. lots of good looking stuff out there. https://www.subaru.co.nz/wrx25#/boards/subaru-wrx/entries/subaru-enrtry-ab6a5059-ef60-4b8f-b655-2f130857cb64
  18. Clean RA http://s7.postimg.org/igrusw7ij/P1040791_Copy.jpg%5Bimg%5D%5Bimg%5Dhttp://s12.postimg.org/bmdvm6yh9/P1040792_Copy.jpg on subarunz WRX competition too hint hint
  19. If you think it's worth voting for Vote my WRX. https://www.subaru.co.nz/wrx25#/boards/subaru-wrx/entries/subaru-enrtry-ab6a5059-ef60-4b8f-b655-2f130857cb64 no doubt more people will follow suit chers.
  20. being wider 22b would probably handle better and extra torque would help pulling out of corners. as to 2015 STI seen a vid of a Golf R thrashing it in a drag race.......disappointing.
  21. just get a relatively stock or slightly modded GF8 Sti wagon. put rear strut brace, anit-lift kit and front k-brace on it. and drive it. then mod as you wish if need be. should have 4 pots front and 2 pots on rear which with club race pads will work fine.
