  1. Yeah running mine from the front channels of a E-Audio 480AB. Still go bloody loud, high passed at 100Hz. Almost too loud, but very clear sound. I've only got Dynamat inner bottom of doors behind speakers, still improve mid-bass response, nonetheless. The tweeters are a little bit 'bright' for my liking though. $199 new from Abtec (onlinecaraudio) or $299 with the matching 6x9 co-axials seems to be the price these days for them.
  2. It's also the best way to get more midbass from the woofers - those that complain about speakers sounding 'tinny', using the stock plastic spacers will result in that. I've heard good things about Rapid Radio. Are those the PRS or TS-D comp's?
  3. I should have taken pics of the stock cardboard speakers, they have gone to a tiny Neodymium magnet and cardboard surround. Must be cost cutting as they only weigh about 1/4 of the old stock speakers. They are also rated at a mighty 15W continuous! But front and rear both appeared to be 6.5" Also the Legacy I looked at was a standard spec GT sedan, not a McIntosh one or whatever they are now with 13 speakers.
  4. The DD loaded enclosures aren't bad for a out-of-the-box, slot ported box and sub. I have the 8" and it goes reasonably well even with a measly 220W RMS. Nowhere as loud as the 2x 12" Alpine Type-R I used to have running from a E-Audio 1000D. But then it's only a tiny 8" sub, and I got it at their old price of $199 http://www.onlinecaraudio.co.nz/DD_LE310
  5. Not a bad meet, slightly overcast so some pics I took are slightly out of focus... Parked up at Southwards, we managed to park in match pairs; by type of car Rob's 10-22mm lens: Hell's Pizza, Taonui St. A few photos at the same spot as last time... And some coffee afterwards...
  6. There is a hack for aux input for these units. See other threads. So maybe no need to use the radio...
  7. It was a good read. I personally still prefer Dynatron alarms - ease of install, setup, reprogramming, brain not overly too big... Being able to obtain them at trade is a bonus though.
  8. May as well book a place in palmy, if a few of us Welli folk are keen to stay for playday and the drifting weekend. Nick - if you're going to Aucks, may as well coincide it with a Hampton Downs event.... perhaps we could go halves on Mike & Debs' place if youre keen
  9. I'm a bit biased on Sony gear in general. It's ok if you got it for the right price... their older stuff was great, 1996-2001 era. Perhaps I was put off by a bad experience with their home hi-fi audio systems, and dealings with Bond+Bond. Actually their component speakers with the ribbon tweeters are prob great, but I can't recall how much they were. My first setup consisted on the mightly XM-222 (Mk 1, Jap build, back when Sony were good), everyone has had one of those at one stage in their car audio setup. 35Wx2 or 80Wx1 (bridged) and it went 'hard' driving the 10" xplod sub - this was back in the day when headunits put out 35Wx4 (max) ~8-12W RMS. Got them for $100 for both about 8-9 years ago - score back then. Basic CD tuners were $500+. Needless to say I had a Tape deck with single pre-out
  10. Car is booked in for rust repair this Saturday so i doubt it Passenger? Or driver, when I feel the need to nap...
  11. Why do you want splits front and rear? Won't that sort of kill the front soundstage? Unless the rear tweeters have been omitted? Then it's perfectly fine If rear speakers are to be used, normally co-axials are best. And they need to be faded out, just to give a slight ambience from the drivers seat... I normally just cheat and don't fit them at all. From previous experience having rears they needed at least 1/3 fading to front i.e. +5 on a (+/-15 range)
  12. single or double din? most subaru are fitted with aftermarket double din kenwood, addzest (clarion), carrozzeria (pioneer) units when they are in japan. i have a stock single din factory unbadged unit - made by clarion. i think it's nz new too, as the fm band goes above 90.0Mhz
  13. Why the rear hub? Is the one on the car unserviceable? Also pick-a-part don't let you in the yard after 4.45pm, so you need to be there before then.
  14. Targa I forgot about that. I'm cruising up with 3 in the wagon. Room for one more. Although I'm picking some rims up in North Shore - so it could get tight on the way back... Oct 22-29. Will be in Aucks for the RWC final...
  15. Port Road is a caged event, I think. The Road & Track series at Manfeild aren't caged events. Neither are the playdays, 27th Manfeild & 30th Hampton - if Taupo had something on in the same week. You could do all three N.I. tracks in one hit!
  16. Fatal accident in Paraparaumu this morning around 10AM - dunno why it took them that long to clear it. A guy from work just had a clean run from Mana to Pukerua Bay, almost unheard of on a Friday night.
  17. A few shots..... *awaits Robs ones from the 10-22mm* Four cameras, and not one tripod present! Taken at: 1"6s, F5.0 Now to look for either a 500D or 550D. Although I'd much prefer a 555D
  18. Avoid the FM transmitters, the tape deck adaptors are far superior and not limited to the crappy FM bandwidth... Now that we mention tapes; a proper tape (chrome or metal) would beat a 128mbps MP3 encoded in joint-stereo.
  19. Damn my entry-level only does up to ISO1600, the newer 500D does higher.... So are you bringing your toys out tonight?
  20. We should all park up together afterwards, and take a few pics with out point 'n' shoots, or cellphone cameras.... thoughts? Somewhere decent that will allow us to utilize a 20-25s shutter speed
  21. The MB Quarts went for $70 - not a bad price. I'm eyeing these up. For american branded speakers - they don't appear to sound too harsh/bright.... not a bad buy at $1R http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=410695705
  22. I've still got an old panasonic - it did keep activating the auto-reverse on the stereo though Use a aux in adaptor thru the cd stacker bus, much better. Avail for most: sony, alpine, pioneer, jvc, etc....
  23. I've still got some complimentary pie & coffee vouchers from BP, leftover from Targa Rotorua - may use those instead
