After converting my BG5 to single turbo, I've started it up to find that it puts out a fair amount of steam out the exhaust and my oil is slightly milky (ever so slightly)
I was told that the motor was a good runner from the guy I bought it from. My turbo on the other hand is from pick a part. In my mad rush of excitement at pick a part, I grabbed the turbo, checked the shaft for play (which there was none at the time) and bought it. Unfortunately after pulling my turbo today I've now noticed that it's missing it's centre clamp (see photo).
Turbo now has mass shaft play. Have also noticed water has run out of my downpipe on to the ground (rest of the exhaust isn't linked up at the moment).
I'm not bothered that my turbo is now buggered - just wondering whether the lack of clamp on the turbo could possibly cause the HG symptoms.. I don't fully understand how the inside of a turbo works so unsure if it's possibly mixing coolant + oil + air if not sealing correctly. I'm able to bleed the cooling system at idle but it seems to pressurize and come out the overflow under any sort of load / RPM.
Any help most appreciated!
This is the clamp i'm on about..
