  1. I went with genuines. If you're happy to rebore the cyls, buy brand new pistons, recon the heads etc, wtf are yah doing going cheap on bearings, get genuine. If i were doing a cheap rebuild, with used pistons etc, that sorta thing, yes i would go cheap aftermarket.
  2. I've actually found my timer useful for other things too (like leaving it running while you nip into the dairy or something). But generally i follow the rule of drive nice and easy for a good 5 mins after a kane, then shut the car off as per usual when i get home.
  3. If you have no luck, contact nathan or gerald at Strong for subaru, in Auckland, and tell em clubsub sent yah. They look after us good and proper!!! They ship nation wide too 09 622 2072 That was their old number... 09 634-0065

    so....

I think now is a good time to secure a good RS, cause you're right family man, prices hit bottom a while ago, and have been trending up for nice examples for a while now. Reckon the best way is to get less than a grand dunger and fix it yourself. It's a fantastic feeling to restore a car to like new im sure.
  5. Topics been covered many times before, i have on numerous occasions explained what octane ratings are (and do). Read up here if interested. Only reason I'm posting, is because I'm in disbileaf, the dealer who sold you your turbo subaru... said it was ok to run 91?! wtf! Man I would have castrated him on the spot if it were me.
  6. I bought some V8 KYB struts off redspecc, can't wait till the arrive
  7. The twin entry muffler.... is optional.... (or at least, on some models, and not on others)
  8. It's on the road up to glenorchy. These pics are taken there too. http://tinyurl.com/29jy77p
  9. Yeah, and the 1-plug loom is essentially the same as the 3-plug, but with one plug. I.e, far easier to swap to the newer, GTB, and single turbo compatible 3-Plug.
  10. It's optional. They have been optional since the BG5B's.
  11. Yeah, BL/BP's are fricken odd. The turbo bends up 90º, and has a flange direct to the intercooler. The intercooler flows left to right, rather than top to bottom, then the outlet goes down, to the trottle body which sit's UNDER the plastic intake manifold. They are all electronic throttle to my knowledge as well. If you want to swap any of those things to STi, you have to swap ALL things, turbo, intercooler, intake manifold+throttle body etc. But the swap is possible, seen many on the US forums.

    so....

Is that a face lift grille, on a pre face lift? Lol, looks odd.
  13. Found this on trade me. Parts computer says it's a WRX, Type R, VLTD ("WRXRVLTD"). Applied model: GC8E27D http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Subaru/Impreza/auction-297428134.htm I wonder if the TE-37's are factory... i knew they we optional, and on VLTD's, but didn't know they went back as far as V4. Also something to note for new players. There's more than one STi Type R. Type R simply means coupe. You could get STi type R's, or STi RA type R's. The RA R's hat the roof scoop, and no aircon etc, the normal type R's were... well... normal. And now i know they even had WRX type R's... And when people say the 22B was based of a type R, technically, it was an RA type R
  14. No, it won't... *sigh* Go read the how to. http://www.clubsub.org.nz/forum/index.php/topic,147.0.html
  15. Paste your image URL in, like so http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa208/Pilot_Reuben/DSC00210.jpg Highlight it, then click the little painting button, up on the left (it's under the B for bold text). That will slap a an IMG tag either side.
  16. Not yet, but there's fricken plenty of fine tail about the place.
  17. Not the way you'll be thinking of. No, you can't plug your laptop into it and tune it. You can chip them and tune the chip. Talk to dirty sanches bout that. But why would you want to do that to a damned 1-plug? Best option, convert to a 3-plug, get a manual GTB ECU, and yellow injectors/orange AFM, or, sell the car and start with something that was always manual.
  18. Well, i've never seen the vice versa, BC kit on a GC, could be good. I'd sway to the face lift purely cause it's a bit more curvey and smooth, and they can get that nice lip.
  19. Go back and mention you're with clubsub, generally they will give a club discount. Asking if anyone on the forums works there, then trying to grease them for staff discounts is not the way to do it.
  20. Seen a BC5 with a GC8 face, looks shit to be honest. Impreza = curvey, BC = boxy, the two styles aren't interchangeable.
  21. Went for another drive. And his outlook... yep, that's a gravex in shot
  22. 2WD RSB... What'd you do that for? And the 96-98 generations intergrate the TCU and ECU into one box, and use a stupid 1-plug loom for it. So you can't slap in a manual ECU, as it's 3-plug. So basically, you're stuck with it, unless you learn how to reloom a car... My advice is to sell the car.
  23. You got some overspray on the D-Pillar, might want to sharpie that out...
  24. Those little square STi badges... You can buy them off the shelf at subaru dealerships in japan. That blitzen will not be STi, of this i am sure. And you guy's are small time, if you combine a NISMO and TRD sticker, you get an extra 100 KW at the wheels.
