  1. For Blutooth, get one of these. Have it in both of my 2004 Legacy wagons with Mcintosh stereos and it works fine for music via bluetooth.  Hands-free calling is also passable.

Otherwise you spend double that on an "Anycar" BT module.

You can replace the system entirely, but because the fascia is integrated with the AC controls, you will probably need to drop ~$500 on a new double din fascia before you even get a new head unit etc...

  2. Don't have too much to add beyond what others have said. What type of driving do you mostly do?  I have a 3.0 which I commute in during peak traffic in AKL and it chews through gas...love it on the open road though.

Also own a NA 2.0 and it is pretty soulless.

Manual are generally a couple grand more than auto.

I like the black one of those three.  Interested to see what the exhaust sounds like as it says it has a cat-back, think that means the stock mid muffler is gone (others can confirm).  Easy to make these cars sound bad if you delete mid-muffler.  So make sure you take it for a cruise on the motorway and also put your foot down a few times.

OK did some sound testing last night and narrowed it down to the left side 3" midrange just above the woofer. It seems to be producing the highs alot louder than it should. Without being an electronics expert my take is

    a) the new woofer impedance (although it says 8 ohms) is slightly less and thus the left side draws a little extra power, I recall on install of new woofers the system sounded a little biased to the left.

    b) the built in crossover on the 3" has failed (perhaps capacitor failed) allowing highs through

Does anyway have any other suggestions ?

Thinking ill either baffle that 3" with some foam behind the grill, or take the opportunity to upgrade my 3" with something nicer from parts-exchange-com.

Where did you get to with this @heylinb4nz?

  4. NA BP Legacy is very easy to do oil change on as there no plastic covers over the filter or bung. So just jack it up and everything is there.  The front jack point is the CV from memory and then I just put jack stands under the chassis rails.  There are jack points under the skirt, but you will probably crush the plastic skirts if you put a jack stand under them.

And I use 5w-30 Magnatec.  From memory that is the recommended grade in the service manual though 10w is also fine/in spec (recommended for hotter areas from memory).

  5. Sounds like he needs to replace the rotors anyways though so it's not just 4pots on the front and new pads....would that still be cheaper?   Plus you would want matching rear 2 pots so you don't have a mismatched set:)

Interested in the physics of this, I thought the deal was you need large rotors so they cool quicker (bigger surface area), whereas you talking about how quickly the heat up with larger pads?
