been a while since i could contribute to this thread
gave her a full detail in and out, incl engine bay etc.. claybar, spot compounds for couple scratches, ultimate polish, ultimate wax. rainx on glass and blacken plastic trim bits that had slightly faded over time. more photo spam in the garage thread

IMO not worth. too restrictive with modifications and you have to generally visit more expensive places for proof of servicing as a requirement of meeting your end of the insurance. also like Joker mentioned, heard from many others who have had it about same issue of certain things being considered as multiple jobs and therefore requiring multiple excess. They also seem to have a cap of how much they will pay out per claim / overall.. would just save the money for proper maintenance especially given the prices for most subaru parts are not very expensive should it come to that.

with classic cover, very cheap. haven't had to make a claim though and that's the important part after all but fingers crossed i wont have to find out..

4000 rpm, done that many times before especially from hillstars on the old v7 which was extremely free revving with lightened flywheel and unecessarily large throttle body.. it's not much of a problem unless you uphill with bunch of crap in the car and carrying heaps of heavy passengars. how did you manage to measure power at the flywheel after tuning? removed and put it on the engine dyno? normaly tuner gives power from dyno measurement which is at the wheels.

is there anything particularly special about the a-line auto that makes it worth losing money to transfer in to it? list those special things out.. and transfer them in to a nice manual v11 sti of your liking. in many situations it's really cool to find your dream shell that may be a rare type and transfer things of your liking in to it.. but in this case it's not really different between the transmission types and neither are rare so that's the reason no one does it.

cars been in dirty 'rally' mode for few months now due to auckland water ban (that's my excuse and i'm sticking with it
) , took it slow and did a full simple detail by hand, feeling out and taking notes of areas for paint correction later.
vacuum, interior clean with soapy water on leather bits , wipe down rest. wash/dry , meguiars ultimate polish 1 pass, meguiars ultimate wax, rainx glass cleaner, rain x water repellant on glass. silicone to black out the black stuff and around the tyres. ran out of wheel cleaner so warm dish soap and some elbow grease like good old days lol. basic clean down of engine bay, car has seen some dodgy conditions and few areas really going to need to bust out DA with compound for next time but good enough for now. was first time using meguiars ultimate wax on the body , normally a big fan of carnauba gold wax for the shine but this seems nearly as good and was just so much easier to use.. bought in to it because apparently the paint protection last longer, had i know how much easier it wipes on/ wipe off then i would have switched over years ago.
in the pics i see i missed a few spots wiping off the wax, better go back and fix that 😆 also damn hazy reflections, should have not been lazy and bust out the DA do it right
hard to see in photos but IRL you could slap a Bluebirds badge because there are a whole lotta chips here and on the sides from driving too 'enthusiastically' on gravel roads
first time i actually cleaned the number plants, used toothbrush and warp dish soap, its crazy how it contrasts
buffed out some nasty scratches this side. polished the muffler cans too... not that anyone will see them but feels good, didn't clean under side of car this time but next time it's up on jacks stands will do so!

yep for some idiotic reason the guy at VTNZ unscrewed my oil cap and left it off on my old car some years back was a toyota allex (n/a so probably not a big deal). went down the road noticed check engine light , popped bonnet and saw that was pretty annoyed. had a go at the dude but he claims was just trying to be helpful doing a free fluids checkup. car ran great for years after so didn't seem to do any damage but annoying all the same.

I knew you told me at some point, I thought I saved it in my phone but couldn't find it. Unfortunately it is only available in store and the nearest Bunnings is 5.5hrs drive from my house haha. I'll have a look around for it elsewhere.
That colour looks a little more gold in your thread, the v7 colour is quite yellow. How different are they in person?

hmmm maybe @Gripless can comment how it compares to the stock gold, since he had same wheels but stock gold . mind you the colour of mine shifts a little based on angle because i put a weak coat of some glitter gold spray as i thought it would look cool 🤣 it does add some texture but up close it makes it look like a bad paint job and took away from all the time i spent doing it.. so learn from my mistake and dont do that one haha. the rustoleum is otherwise really good and to my eyes seemed like stock colour

whoops sorry the late response, it is a fairly flush fit, i got some pics on my thread here in this linked post. mine is the older xav3000 model not sure if there is size difference to the new models

where’s the car photos for this???LOL i took like 2 photos of my car and all the rest just general landscape / astrophotography haha. love the car but didnt find it that interesting of a photography subject, probably won't be bothered to clean it and get some shots pre 1st dec. just honestly lazy

If one wanted to add a roof vent to a non RA car do you know if there is anywhere to get them aside from a wreaker car?
keen as on a vent having no AC but pain to locate.
Can confirm it really helps alleviate the no AC issue , did in my old car , used that latch from dairusire and was awesome as. Consider some window monsoons too so you can crack the windows during rain as roof vent while raining isn’t great

There are plenty around at dealers bro, you should test drive before shopping around heaps. Test drive was a massive eye opener for me, atleast. just knew I couldn’t have it and that’s saying a lot coz didn’t mind the auto skyline 370 as much initially whic is what I ended up with at the time which I’ll add is also s*** compared to manual version but 10k cheaper so compromised at the time. Drove manual for 15 years now through Auckland rubbish traffic with heavy clutches, light flywheels and still can’t figure out what people complain about, it’s such a subconscious part of driving but so rewarding at same time . For ppl sick of driving manual, their future is also probably self driving cars
That just a personal taste thing don’t mind my ramble. after test drive you might find you like it anyway, in which case good for you! Just saying it’s best starting point since highly opinionated topic

I watched the Meguiars UK YouTube series called Detailing 101 which was such a good series for a noob like me.
Still a little unsure on what colour pad to use for the different stages though... what did you use on your car [mention=20441]Batbaruman[/mention]?

When I did it, I actually just used the cheapo yellow of that came with my SCA polisher for the polishing steps . When I redo it I’ll use the eBay polishing pads of varying strength for different steps. For wax steps I used cheap SCA black pad. I’m a noob too and followed same online tutorials, found the megiuars vids to be quite helpful though it helps I guess that I’ve done it all by hand in the past on previous cars (multi day process by hand!)
Done some write up in my thread of my experiences if interested but as a one line summary : the Meguiars stuff with the super cheap stuff is very easy to use, doesn’t break the bank and gives great results if you put in the time to do it right

if you're not in a rush, you can get pretty decently priced ones off ebay. i'm no pro, but i got a good variety from there. also if you already have the ones from supercheap, they'll work 'ok', just keep cleaning the pad as you go regularly.. you shouldn't need a whole lot of them, the key is to clean and if you watch a bunch of guides from youtube 'pros' you'll see it's a common theme that they use air gun while spinning it on low to keep pad clean.
how many steps are you looking at doing on the detail? compound, finishing polish, and wax to seal? or something more? my paint was very dry and lackluster before i started, and with a couple passes of finishing polish (meguiars ultimate polish) and meguiars carnauba gold class wax, it was what i'd call 8/10 condition up from originally 6/10). my regret at the time was investing all that time to prep (full on clean & dry, claybar, clean again, claybar little more, polish couple times and wax), i should have gone 1 more step and compounded.. i have ultimate compound waiting for around october when i do it all again.

I think [mention=20441]Batbaruman[/mention] had a 4" downpipe on his V7? Or at least someone on here did. Need to find a nice short 3"-4" transition in stainless, ideally. I wonder if someone makes a nice billet one with a 3" v-band flange integrated....
Nah was 4.5” intake pipe but pretty sure downpipe was o my 3” , might have pics somewhere if someone needs but don’t think you’d get more than 3” very easily there

thats some nice finds. might need to get the pulley cover myself.. was going to DIY one with some alum sheets i got ages ago but been on the backburner for years 🙃 if someone gets the short shifter, would be keen on reviews.. not sure how much better it gets but as you say does feel pretty short already from factory.
