  1. And dont forget, budget what u will think it will cost... Then double it..... Never fails this theory trust me. Haven't met anyone who has done a build exactly on budget or even near to it lol 4g is pretty cheap, let alone taking into account tuning and all the other bits. Which if u hit problems during tune, like unforseeable ones ie fueling issues, detonation and blah blah. It's always the little things that u don't see coming that stings u, trust me I've been thru and still going thru it lol. Like last tune, came up with a fuelling issue. Still have a good tune, but now gotta look as to why Im having it as in theory it shouldn't be occuring with the setup I have lol.
  2. To get up to sti spec, remember the engine is completely different so ul never be up to that spec unless u do a whole engine swap. And even then, u gotta think of STI 4 pots brakes, suspension and all the other things that go with it. I know its not an answer ul like, but generally speaking unless you have good contacts/know how/and help it really is honestly better/cheaper selling and upgrading to an STI. I was in a similar situation and decided to be easier/cost effective selling up and buying a heavily worked wrx instead.
  3. Um I need some help, I have a package which is an oil cooler getting delivered to my place here in chch. Unfortunately the muppet down south didn't wrap it up in any decent state, hence it leaked oil etc all over and the package is now currently stuck in Dunedin since the post office will not deliver, any chance someone can pick it up, and if they know anyone heading up to drop it off. I'll happily reimburse or if anyone wants a cheap evo 5 oil cooler can pick it up on my behalf and basically have it for some beers when we catchup. It's just starting to get tp the point I don't wanna spend more $$$ when I can get a brand new oil cooler for not much more once I pay the additional postage costs and alike for the old oil cooler.
  4. Sure but meh thats make the internet so boring and I wouldn't have multiple pages of entertainment to read. Good on ya for trying something different, but sometimes we have to look at cost vs beneftis and to be honest this car has to be one of the most grossly expensive underperforming cars I've seen. Not having a crack, but this discussion has been going for years and years yet just don't see any massive jumps apart from tons of mentions of the 6-speed and other parts u have aquired over the years which are far far more suited for a person that is trying to build a track car... cough cough like me haha, so in essence I should help give u a hand and help alleviate that 6 speed off ur hands
  5. I times a million, just sell em up get a wrx sti and bang ur sorted lol

Haha well Im not one!!! In fact I could write an essay on the amount of times I been shafted there, let alone even start to talk about the piss poor servicing standards they did on my previous wrx. But like you, I could say the same about Repco and how many people I know get great service from the guys in the Syndenham branch. So don't knock them when for a fact the dealers are just as bad.

Bahahah thats a good TUI ad right there. ;D Through Repco I've had no issues, thru certain "dealers" I've always had nothing but issues.
  8. I can honestly say without a good EBC setup, an external won't help too much if not setup right esp if a mostly stock setup can't handle the boost. Apart from the noise ul just end up in the same boat and wasted a boat load of money. I have this setup with supporting mods like EBC and PowerFC. It still overboosts but that is due to needing to the EBC setup sorted and a re-tune to which Im getting sorted on monday. My setup
  9. Bloody good location, I now have to go in for a retune lol. Had remided all the issues I've had previous with the old setup, bit of a pain with the twisted turbo setup as I had to get it all modified/customised to fit. But was well worth it, definitely for anyone in chch. I would recommend Tony at RDL performance.
  10. I do apologise for the dirty engine, here is mine located.
  11. From the SI 4&R's show, thanks to old skool subby and craig for letting me borrow his wheels.
  12. Apart from the Pro of being able to say "It's RWD" there really isn't any pro's. I tested a RWD wrx for a guy up north looking at buying one, and OMG it handled like crap. Would never go down that track, if I wanted RWD I would look at getting a RWD car like the mighty old skool starlet. 8)
  13. Depends on the debatable description of tuned, it still can be either equal length or unequal length. As technically full tuned ones will not neccesarily be equal length, as it can depend on the engine setup. Good arguments on NASOIC and alike though.
  14. Car: 1994 V1 WRX Mods: Easier to list what isn't modified Things u like: The way it feels and handles, and that brilliant feeling when u put ur foot down. 8) What you dislike: Forever replacing things I've broken Why you brought it: Great platform to get into trackwork What your future plans are: Again its an evergrowing list, but to finish with something that has a rollcage and can enter into race events.
  15. I'm going to post up a seperate thread on the external how too's soon in regards to what is and isn't legal setup wise in the legal forum. Mine is vented to atmo that gets wof also, I have had Tony at RDL fabricate a setup off the up-pipe with the proper y setup with the external sitting next to my turbo. Then I have had a 2m pipe that followed the exhaust down to the back of the car. As legally it is technically an exhaust leak, hence it must exit 300mm from the rear passengers compartment. This will pass wofs as I've had no issues with this setup, and no I don't mean dodgy wofs either. I will post up shortly what was done with my setup and how it looks. Noise wise it will get u in big trouble with the police if u drive hard near them, so I recommend holding out hitting the boost hard til trackdays or out of neighbourhoods, as even I get annoyed at guys cranking their externals at 4am outside my place.
  16. Hopefully get some better shots 2moro at the 4&r's show as the lightning isn't that great when setting up.
  17. Yeah I must agree that by the seat-o-meter it definitely rev's alot faster, especially in the lower range and getting on full boost. I love it. ;D
  18. Unfortunately mate, performance and reliability don't go hand in hand, the more you mod engine wise the more chance something will break. Exhaust ie Headers, EBC, Suspension, Brakes, FMIC, and maybe aftermarket ECU/tune will cover most the areas but like anything the more power u run the higher u run the risk of something going wrong. Secondly espeically if it isn't an STI u are severly limited in how far u can modify the engine wise, ie not going up 16psi etc etc
  19. I personally like the sound of equal length headers, I found they sounded more like an evo and it gives ur car more of a rally sound. The unequal length headers keep somewhat the subie rumble, I currently have a set of these but it still gives it the evo sound once u start flooring it. But at idle etc it rumbles away nicely. Im about to get on the dyno and have retune so can provide figures for it. You won't get the hugest gains kw atw figure wise with aftermarket headers but it does help free up the restrictions of the stock system in place. Unequal length won't provide you with as much torque as equal length but unless you aiming for a high performace track beast then I wouldn't worry too much over it.

    Removal of spoiler..

Repco, Supercheap or The Warehouse sells bungs that you can put in the holes thats where I got mine. Not ideal but the little black bungs don't stand out much at all. Rust removoal, usually the spray stuff with one of the wire brushes helps remove it, but its only a quick fix really as ul will have that problem constantly. Ideally u want to eventually get them welded over and a respray as the bungs aren't water tight and ul eventually get a lil rust round the holes. By a little I mean over 3 years of having the bungs in, it has now only recently just showed sign of rust. But I've now had it welded and resprayed since.
