V1 and V2 wrx have hydraulic lifters and these will stick and cause a tapping noise.
V3 and v4 sti have buckets over shims.
As stated most ej20 engines make some sort of odd noises and every car seems to have its own noise,i call it character and you will learn to live with it.Although it can be a bit disconcerting and can lead to mild mechanical paranoia at times.
This is a tactic that i use quite often.
If i see any thing dodgy,ie being followed by suspect car or see lowlife walking down the street i will drive past my house and do a lap of the block.
Makes a lot of sense to me.
I have never been embarrased to have driven any of the 27 cars i have owned..
I do find it a bit annoying when people keep refering to a few old members moving on to fresh pastures as signaling the demise of a club that seems to be in good shape and attracting new people on a daily basis.
No point in dwelling on the good old days...move on and keep the club an interesting and dynamic place to visit.
powdercoating..powder sprayed on to what ever you are painting and attracted to it by an electrical charge to make it stick. Then baked in an oven to turn powder into paint,a bit like enamel on pottery.Good durable surface but does give a buildup which can cause clearance problems on tight fitting items.
Paint...is just paint.Brush,spraycan or spraygun.
How many members have lightened there flywheels and run on heavy chrome wheels?
Doubt if its many if any.
Most people would be looking for a performance gain and would be intelligent enough to realise the futility of such a combo.
The few who dont..dont matter..
I had very little understeer.
Direzzas on the front and chinese goodride on the rear.Back end was floating round all day with only a hint of understeer on the slow hairpins..
Get a job in palmy...
set alarm for 7 am on sunday...
Have a lazy breakfast...
leave home at about 8.30 am...
Quiet drive to Manfeild...
Pay the man $45 dollars...
And give it heaps...
And more heaps...until you are worn out..
Or the car cries enough..
Then quiet drive home, hopefully with a very large grin from ear to ear.
Well thats what i will be doing on sunday.YEEEEHAAAA.
Yes....rust never sleeps.
The bores will rust/corrode and the rings will not seal very well.
If you are lucky and run it in a little the sealing may improve over time.
The most affordable subaru that will become collectable is..............
The v4 STI type R.
Absolutely will be a classic and the more that get rolled, bowled and arswholed the sooner the remaining ones will appreciate in value.
I said the same thing about the r/t e49 charger many years ago.
And then i sold my one to get deposit for 1st house. Now i could sell it for enough to buy a house.(in dannevirke, that is)
