  1. About a year ago my wife and I bought a 2010 BR9 as a family wagon to cart round the baby gear and also the dog. As its predominantly her car, I don't drive it a lot but i have noticed that on the first start after it has been sitting for a while it seems to heavily over fuel to the point of almost stalling (sounds like a diesel engine). When this happens the exhaust releases unburnt fuel. It calms straight down to a perfect idle when selecting a gear out of park. We are the first owners from it landing from Japan. Is there an ECU flash that can be done to eliminate this dreadful start up feature? Car is still under a warranty just for interest sake. Cheers
  2. A $5k Audi will be an expensive fix if it turns out to be a lemon. At least a non turbo subi is reasonably cheap to fix. Im not bias but subi would be my choice....
  3. So I'm doing my first track day and I'm wanting to know if anyone knows about track day insurance? My current insurer won't cover cars on the track. Is there a company that does one off insurance for a track meet?
  4. Gearbox in and car back on the ground. Shifts smooth as silk! Drives like a Subaru should.
  5. Awesome idea! My wife would never have agreed on Subarus as wedding cars. Would have said definitely yes if I was in Welly and had my panel and paint finished. Congrats on getting married! Have an awesome time! Are you looking for specific Subaru versions or any will do?
  6. My worst nightmare dude! I would be inclined to wire up some decent voltage to the seat pan and fry the b**tard. Following this thread because I would like to make my car somewhat unstealable too.
  7. I have acquired some STI shocks from a GF8 and wanted to know if anyone knows if they fit a Type R? Changing the springs of course to suit the type R.
  8. Haven't pushed it too hard under load. It's just been rebuilt and I'm taking it gently. What would the high pitch noise be?
  9. Perfect! I'll try this first..... Just have to get the gearbox back in etc. from memory the wastegate isn't fouling on the down pipe but I'll try again.
  10. It is missing the restrictor pill (which I thought would just run wastegate pressure). It has a cat free Siamese down pipe which may cause it to boost high. Other then that pretty normal.
  11. https://trademe.co.nz/1063016655 How about this one? I have a 1999 type R sti. It is over boosting heavily so I want a bit of control.
  12. $200-300. Not a massive budget but there are a few on trademe.
  13. Im after an electronic boost controller and as im on a bit of a budget Im looking on tardme for a second hand one. Whats the best bang for buck? HKS? Greddy? Blitz?
  14. great! golden information!
  15. Just wondering if anyone knows what restrictor pill size a 1999 STI Type R runs? and if anyone happens to have one? What determines the size of the restrictor? cheers!
  16. Bugger. Cheers! Looks like I'll have to rectify it.
  17. Recently installing the power steering pump back on my car and the single wire with the white connecter pulled out of the back of the assembly. I carried on a bit pissed off, started the car and no warning lights came on and it steered fine. Does anyone know what the wire does?
  18. This.... Did it a few weeks ago. Easy as pie.
  19. Just curious to know if the type R has the same exhaust length and hangers as a GC8 sedan??
  20. yup it was an outback. The height is better with the baby etc (also my wife has a history of taking side skirts off on curbs).
  21. Drove a 2.5xt turbo today and was very impressed. Havent had a chance to compare to the 3.0l. Might have to be a mission for next weekend.
