  1. Another tip, if you put a flat head between the pad and disc before you undo any bolts you can move the piston enough to get it back on later. Saves messing around with g clamps and multi grips.
  2. Pretty sure an asia to NZ plug will work. A friends import subby has one too. Almost all DC appliances (basically anything that runs on batteries) will run of that. Just check the adapter says 110-240v or something like that.
  3. Autometer. Wouldn't waste your time with anything else. They do a good steering column one. Not sure about pillar.
  4. Don't forget the brand, gear, and altitude of the dyno will affect the number. It is not uncommon to have a 5-10% difference between one shops dyno and another.
  5. interesting, what models do they rate? I have the Alpine X305s and haven't seen anything from Sony or any other brands that comes close to it for functionality and (with the Imprint add-on) sound quality, but I'm always keen to see the latest and greatest. http://www.sony.co.nz/product/dsx-s300btx this is the one I got, although all the DSX range should have the same sound quality. They have this DM+ thing which adds back the lost sound in compressed audio like Ipod etc. No idea how it works but if you set the unit up well it sounds amazing. And really, I have been dead against Sony for years. Always a Pioneer or Alpine man, but this new line has me totally sold. I am begining to sound like a sony sales rep so will leave it there. Head to rapid radio though and compare, I think you will be surprised compared to the sony of a couple of years ago.
  6. A year ago I would have said the same but their new stuff will blow you away. Rapid radio are recommending them to most people and those guys know their sh#$.

    Factory Sub?

I dont think you could go to RCA as voltage would be too high. You would need an amp with speaker input terminals (I think most have them).

    Factory Sub?

But you loose your rears in the process don't you?
  9. Alpine used to be the best, 5-10 years ago. Pioneer is good bang for buck but hard to use. Sony now lead the way for head units. I have owned all three and now own a sony DSX s300btx. The sound quality improved so much from what I had before. I was going to install a sub and new speakers but I honestly do not think I need to now. The sonys have the best bluetooth streaming quality, compared to JVC and pioneer. (Makes sense as sony invented it.) I installed this in a 2001 BH5. Would thoroughly reccommend Sony these days. You can get a cheaper model too, and Sony are the only ones at the moment to my knowledge to have an internal dock for you ipod. And it works really well. I have been into this stuff for 10 years now and I can honestly say that this unit surpassed my expectations like nothing else. Happy to provide some tips for install if needed.

    Factory Sub?

Any type of bass enhancement like sub or under seat rumbler etc will absolutely need its own power source from the battery. This is very easy to do though and if you are not going with something too powerfull you can get away with a fairly small cable. DO NOT use the power cable from the head unit. You will blow the fuse or stave the HU for power and destroy the amp. You will probably find it easier to wire from the battery to the seat than from the head unit TBH. You should make sure that there is an amp output from your stereo first though. Not much point setting it all up to find you can't get a signal.
  11. I also had this problem. Fixed it about a year ago by relocating the wire rod and tighening that screw. Has been fine since. Sometimes a piece of plastic has broken though and you cant fix it. Replacement part is in the 200s

The better milages were open rd driving, auckland to mt ruapehu. I generally do not care much for my consumtion so while I do not hoon around like an idiot I don't drive like a nana either. I have been having worse results the last one or two fills as O2 sensor heater has died so appears to be running rich. Hope this helps someone.
  13. For those people with no friends, or just no friends that are interested in helping you with your car, you can do this with one person. The throttle cable/assembly is well within reach of the location you are spraying the cleaner so it is quite easy to keep the revs up from under the bonnet.
  14. Does the block flow? I read you flowed a whole lot of things but there could be a blockage in the block somewhere. Rather unlikely though I would have thought.
  15. Alpine is very good but a bit more expensive for the same features found in pioneer. I think sony is a bit harder to use.
  16. The gauge should not be linked in anyway to the pump or filter. Could be sender, could be gauge, could be the sensor has a loose ground? not sure. Stuttering can be caused by lack of fuel, but not surging, unless the surging is only compared to the stutter. Did both symptoms (gauge and stutter) start at the same time?
  17. I will have a look next time I have my head in there.
  18. The 5 speed boxes can be a bit notchy in first and reverse, and syncros seem to wear faster than some other manufacturer. Probably nothing to do with the strength of the gears themselves.
  19. I have had slotted, and drilled and OEM discs on various cars. They do not make a difference for anything you can do on public roads. The exception being trying to slow your car from 200km/h to 0 quickly which is the only time a drilled rotor will help by preventing some brake fade. Choose what you like the look of best or what makes you happy but OEM will stop just as well in almost all road applications. As someone else pointed out, you should be far more concerned about tyres. The amount of cars I have seem with good rims, good brakes etc and then they have some crap tyre like rolla or win lee or something. The grip is rubbish and the sidewall has more flex than a 12 year old gymnist. Spend you money on good tyres! Oh, 4 pot calipers do feel better to drive with as the pistons have less distance to travel so brake pedal feel will be firmer. This upgrade is worthwhile. Did this on my BH and am quite happy.
  20. Would like to add, my bro had some europlates on his bmw that were form germany (not the nz govt personalised version) exactly the same but got a $200 ticket for them not being issued by NZTA. The zero was slightly different. Apparently the cop had to call her boss to check the rules.
  21. what you can do is build up the driveway a little at the right point to lift the rear wheels a little higher when the cat scrapes. i.e. stop car right on the point it scrapes. Get out of car. Mark position of rear wheels. Move car. add cement/wood/sand/plastic hump, whatever. probably 500-1000mm in length would do it. would only need to raise up an inch or so.
  22. I think standard thermostat is to open at high 80's and be fully open in the early 90's. Note that many temp gauges are not perfect. I would only trust the likes of autometer and defi etc. Autogauge is rubbish, I speak from experience there.
  23. Does anyone know if the oxygen sensors are different between turbo and non turbo of same model?
  24. Different Part. Same issues re price and aftermarket availability.
  25. I am having exactly the same problem. As I write this my 2001 BH is jacked up with the O2 sensor hanging out so I could get the part number cause winger would not give it to me. Turns out the part number is not much use as ebay is not much help for JDM cars. I have sent an email to Lambda power or something like that in the UK. Will let you know how I get on. Winger want $590 for one. Yikes. I am thinking I may just forget it. My mate took the O2 sensor out of his KTM to get more juice as it will increase the fuel/air ratio a little which is why you will get worse fuel economy. Can anyone confirm whether a dud O2 sensor will cause any problems?
