how to wire in aftermarket radiator fans?

Recommended Posts

ok so i want to get my new fans wired up tomorrow but im not sure how to wire them up, the factory plugs has 3 wires and my 2 new highflow fans only have two wires.

im guessing the factory ones would be positive, negative and a switching wire, id like to get my new fans to switch on only when needed as they used to, but am unsure how to do this.

can someone enlighten me please.

No, factory are 2 speed.

so can i hook up to two wires then? and leave one wire off, or do i join the 2 different speed wires together? obviously i'd like the fans to be running at full speed whenever they are on.

i dont really need to make them come on earlier with an adjustable thermostat, my link my even be able to be set to turn them on lower anyway, im not sure, will look into that when it comes to tuning.

The Link may only have 1 speed. Just run it and see what wires have power and earth when they switch on.

not to get your motor goin they dont. it will be 5 seconds to wire up. the other way is test your fan with a battery and work out which wire is which. then just match the plug up.

yea thats a good idea actually but i dont have any factory fans anymore to test with, i think boostin got them with my old radiator. i just thought someone here might know of the top of their head which of the 2 wires to use.

im doing all the piping at the same time, but just wanted to do the fan wiring so i dont have to take the radiator back out. im doing a million things at the same time at the moment. im off work this week so trying to get as much done as possible.

i just found a wiring diagram but focked if i can work it out haha.

another question, do both fans operate at the same time, regardless of aircon been off? i see one labeled as main fan and the other as sub fan.

been so long since my cars been going i cant remember.

That made me confused. Do you have one or two plugs?

haha yea, i have two plugs, F19 and F20 in that diagram, both fans seem to operate independantly but i get lost where it all goes into the aircon relays lol.

at least the earths are easy to work out though ;D

Some have the RH fan on low for A/C, and then on high for cooling, and the LH on low and high for cooling, while others have both low for A/C and both high for cooling. Don't worry too much about what does what when. Just find the low speed and earth wires and hook them up to those.

so after getting lost with that diagram i was just doing some google searching on fitting aftermarket fans on 3-wire subarus, one manufacturer recommends to splice the two positive wires together to work with their 2-wire thermo fans, so that way it still has its low/high functions.

does this sound right boostin?

this is a quote on Nasioc, for mishimoto aftermarket 2 wire fans:

The fan shroud kit comes with 2 12" Slim fans pre-assembled.

You would have to cut off the harness, yes and manually wire them in. If you have a 3 wires going to your OEM fan (high/low speed set-up), wire the two positive wires to the blue wire on the Mishimoto fan, and the ground to the black wire on the Mishimoto fan.

If you have a 2 wire set-up, Black is Negative/Blue is Positive, and then you should be done!

Yeah that should work. I guess the low speed circuit shuts off when the high speed switches on. I've never checked to be sure though.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
