Alternator Help.. for a 1987 Subaru Domingo van

Im looking at getting a Subaru Domingo Van but the problem is its missing its alternator. I can not seem to find a replacement at any of the wrecking yards or even a brand new alt.

Its fitted with the 1.2L 3 cylinder engine and is 4WD.

Ive got a parts book for both a 87,88 Justy and the Domingo Van and they are look totally different.

So does any one know is a Justy one would work?

Or if there one off a different make and model that would work?

Any help would be great.

The issue you will have is finding an alternator that will mount up correctly.

Wiring, you should have 3 wires which do the following

-Battery (this is the thickest of the lot and sometimes is a ring terminal and attaches to a threaded post this wire goes straight to the battery for charging it)

-Excitor wire (this wire comes from the ON position of the key and provides 12V to the alt to liven it up)

-Warning wire (this is the one that makes the red light on the dash come on, will show 12V when not spinning and the excitor has 12v provided to it)

just make a spacer up to get it to fit correctly. it shouldnt be too much different to another subaru of similar age. for example, all mazda/ford used the same alternator for mid 80s thru to early 90s

Yeah pretty much any 12v alternator that sorta fits in the hole will work

Sweet. Man I asked around alot of places and No one knew.

One thing that hacks me off about the Domingo is that No wrecking yards seemed to keep any parts for them.

So if you damage the pannels or any thing you most like wont be able to get any thing.

I found out that the factory Alt for a Domingo is only 35 amp.

If say I fit a 55amp or even a 65amp alt off a leone or omega would that cause any electrical problems?

a higher amperage alternator means you can run driving lights or a larger sterio without overloading the alternator its common to replace with a higher amperage alt.
