B4 Transmission problems - help

Guest

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I've been having a few problems with my transmission in my 99 B4, when it's cold it takes a couple of minutes to beable to change it into drive, reverse is fine.

When it does change it clunks into gear, also second gear does the same. I have topped up the transmission fluid before I get it changed next week and levels are still good.

Thoughts please? do you think changing the fluid will fix the problem? or could it be major?

Thanks,

Nicky

Common fault. Way down deep inside the transmission, the low clutch seals are worn. The parts themselves are about $100, but there's a good 8 hours labour to replace them. In fact I did this exact job on Monday just gone. It's a good time to replace all exterior seals and gaskets to stop any fluid leaks too.

Hey,

I've just got a couple of quotes to repair the worn seals in the auto transmission, $1500 - do you guys think I would be better off buying a second hand transmission and can you recommend someone to fit it for me??

Cheers

A secondhand box is an unknown quantity. At least you know whats wrong with yours. Just shop around for quotes. Just make sure they know what they're talking about. If they sound a bit vague, walk away.

I'd be suspecting a sticky valve given the symptoms.

If the clutchs are worn there is a lag going into gear but it is measured in seconds... not minutes. If it's taking minutes to engage gear then the clutches would be non-existant and there would be no drive!

Worn clutches don't "clunk" into gear.

I reckon there is some tiny speck of something(rust, metal, warpage due to loose bolts), causing a valve to stick in it's bore, then when the aluminium warms and expands after a few minutes the valve frees and moves to allow the fluid through to the clutch pack.

If it isn't a sticky valve it could be the OWC slipping.. then locking up with a "clunk".

Those would fit the symptoms... worn clutches dont.

As it has been said above its worn low clutch seals, common as.

Where did anyone say anything about worn clutches?

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
