Removing Crankshaft Pulley!!!!

Ninja8)

Recommended Posts

hey everyone... picked up a v4 sti longblock friday night. gave it a clean and what not yesterday under the nice auckland sun!

anyway...attempted to remove the crankshaft pulley 22mm bolt and GOD DAMN!!!!! now anyone know of a straight forward way to remove it?? i have tried using a powerbar and hammer...and jamming it to something with a longbar but still no go.

i've had a read online of people doing it with the engine still in the vehicle but theres just no way i can do what they do with the engine out. no rattle gun available in my garage. or even better...

a box or sesh for someone in auckland who would be keen to remove it for me. thats all im stuck on!!!

howick im located in.

thanks guys.

p.s its my first time stripping a subaru engine. thought i would try learn :)

hey mate, I put wet towel around the crank pulley then put a oil filter wrench onto it then used a powerbar and 22mm socket on the nut to get it off, easy

yea thought of that 2 but my oil filter wrenches are 2 small!! >:( running out of ideas lol. even got a mate to use a adjustable monkey wrench (i use it to remove oil filters) to clamp the pully tight while i tried and still a no go.

only 3 or 4 ways i can think of now:

1. buy a bigger oil filter wrench lol

2. mobile mechanic (fuck that)

3. get a mate to help load the engine back into the car and drive it down the road to borrow a rattle gun (easiest way atm)

4. wait for marc or a club sub member ;D

but i wanna at least get the bolt of today lol so yea thought i would post up a post to get some ideas...

Have you got a flywheel for it? I usually use an old engine bearing to jam the flywheel in place (or a square shafted screw driver) and then use a cheater bar on the powerbar to undo the crank pulley.

Could also put a couple of bolts into the back of the crank (where the flywheel bolts to) and use those to stop the thing rotating.

i also do this with a bent valve.... it locks the flywheel thru one of the bolt holes.

another trick is some rope down the plug hole. but make sure the valves are closed for this one haha

n nope no flywheel or i woulda try what uz said as i hada bit of a research lastnight :P HOWEVER!!! i did mange to get hold of the biggest oil filter wrench available at repco or supercheap at a MINT price ;) so i will try what zarnah suggests & go from there.

nehow..time for a garage thread for spencer :o

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
