BH5 Legacy Fuel issues

Hey all

in the last few months my legacy seems to have had some issues with the fuel filter/pump.

what happens is that sometimes when i start it the fuel gauge instead of climbing to its correct position will fall to below empty even though it has over half a tank. also it will sometimes bring on the fuel light when its showing at least 1/4 tank on the gauge.

Is this a pump or filter issue or possibly the fuel level gauge in the tank?

also could this be causing an issue where the car will stutter when driving for no apparent reason then all of a sudden launch for a bit?

Matt, is there a fuelpump/sender plug under the rear seat like the impreza? i'd be investigating that first (easiest) but its probably fine

Hey guys, can anyone confirm the information on this site is right/wrong, regarding whether a Walbro GS342 will fit a BE5 B4 Legacy (mine is a 1998 Rev. A for specifics). The site specifically states it won't fit and that a GS340 is required.

The gauge should not be linked in anyway to the pump or filter. Could be sender, could be gauge, could be the sensor has a loose ground? not sure.

Stuttering can be caused by lack of fuel, but not surging, unless the surging is only compared to the stutter. Did both symptoms (gauge and stutter) start at the same time?
