WRX STI Type R Coupe questions

Recommended Posts

Hi there

Ive been looking at purchasing a Coupe 97 Type r Impreza and have a few questions.

I believe they go by the same gc8, basic identification, but do all gc8 parts fit on the coupe such as suspension,

sway bars etc?

Or put another way, what sedan bits wont go on the coupe (bar the rear doors...... ;))

Thanks for ya time, Ben

Yeah, its a matter of what i can find on the market. Out of the coupe models, what ones are regarded as better then the rest? I prefer function over form (which is a change these days) so if shes a little dated im not too worried.

i would say they would all be similar engine wise?? not really a pro on coupes but just learnt off a mate from the few weeks he had his. They all have dccd close ratio gearbox, 2 pot rears, r180 diff. The only differences that i know of are exterior and interior.

I just brought a 97 type R coupe a few weeks ago and slowly investing a lil bit of money into it atm so far everything is GC8 generic so to speak nothing really differs from the usual GC8 wrx/sti aside from rear doors as you mentioned, i will admit though it is the best car i have owned so far alot of fun took a bit to get used to lol but well worth every cent.

I have owned my ver 4 coupe for 5 years now to the week and I have had nothing but enjoyment out of it. If you keep up on the services and general maintainence these cars are reliable as. The car can definatly bite ya if you're not used to the dccd and limited slip but its a great car to drive. My engine is still standard as subaru made it but it has plenty of poke to keep a smile on my dial ;D Mine is also for sale too ;) ;)

Loved my coupe. None of the doors are interchangeable from a sedan to a coupe. Coupes have much longer doors... And watch out for the V-LTD coupes... most of them if not all of them have roof scoops (which is not a bad thing) and shitty brakes. Cant remember the other differences.

Dont the V6 Limited Type R's have 4 Pots front and 2 Pots rear? ???

Thought they would be the same as the STi Type ra V6. You can never be 100% Sure with Subaru ;D

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
